I came across these speakers in a Salvation Army thrift store. They did not have the original manufacturer badges on the speakers but when I took off the covers I saw the original quality control papers with inspector signatures still attached to the cover posts(!) and the 8" woofer was of a different design, being made of metal instead of paper( I found out it is made of aluminum!). As the price was only $12.00 for the pair I decided to take a gamble and buy them. When I took them home I hooked them up to my Pioneer SX-980 receiver and boy did they sound incredible! I was actually shocked how great these speakers sound for $12 bucks. They are not the best speakers made but I will put them up to any 8" woofer system for $12 anytime. I went and looked up the history of Bozak and it turns out that Rudy Bozak who started and ran the company until the late 70's to 80's is considered a speaker design genius along the likes of James Lansing and others in the golden age of stereo in the 50's, 60's and 70's. These are small speakers and he was known for making speakers the size of refrigerators and worked for the U.S. Navy on secret underwater sound experiments. He and his company are no longer in existence but what he left behind is sought after by collectors. If you don't believe me go to Ebay and type in Bozak speakers and you will be surprised by the number of 40- to 50 year old speakers being sold and the prices they command!

I found these old speakers at a garage sale and didn't really look at them until the owner said they go with her old Onkyo TX-1500 mkii. So, I checked them out and they seemed nice. I brought them home and hooked up my new find and they are great speakers! The Danish-made drivers are very sweet and brilliant! The upper end is what shows the most on these, with the lower register being nice, firm, and not boomy. It seems this lady had been under-driving them all these years with a weak 15-20 wpc Onkyo. With a solid 75 wpc coming from my Marantz 1150, it really took charge! The only thing I don't like about these is that the midrange is not there as much as I love out of the likes of KEF or old Dahlquist DQ-10s (or any decent speaker without such a huge size gap between tweeter and woofer). No doubt, the midrange is good, but would do so much better with a dedicated dome midrange. I have heard of people tweaking the x-over and making a new cabinet for them, but I like to keep things OEM. Great speakers overall!
