Strength:

Built quality Great deep bass, clean midrange & tweeter Can play extremely LOUD (you need a powerfull amp).

Weakness:

Size -requires a big room and a big amp to perform their best. Cannot biwire, only 1 set of terminals.

The best sounding Cerwin-Wega!!! (at least in my opinion) I have been using these great speakers for almost 1 year now, and I''m very happy with them. They never stops to amaze me. I have previously used AT-15(AT-100) & Dali 850. But with AL-1000 I got the best from two worlds. The powerhandling of a good PA-speaker, and the sound-quality of a good hifi-speaker. The dali''s of-course, sounded a bit more laid-back. Some prefere that. But I like the up-front Cerwin-Wega sound. I''m a club-DJ, so I know the differences between PA- and HIFI sound. Don''t let them fool you, these babies need and deserves a POWERFULL AMP. I use them on a NAD 208-THX power amp(2x250W 8O-rms & 2x800W 4O-max), and good speaker-cables. Great combination for all kinds of music -specialy rock/techno. They don''t sound laid-back, they play with attack. If you like classic music, and want a smoth and laid-back sound, there may be better alternatives. Some final words. Buy them, use them on a powerfull quality amp, use a good cd-player and some quality-kables, and you wil get: Deep but also fast bass. Clear & detailed midrange- and treble. -If you get them new, they will need play about 200 hours before they sound perfect. Buy them! You won''t be disapointed.

Strength:

Strong powerful bass without being boomy

Weakness:

Slight lack of lower treble which gives lack of presance,
large size

Before buying these speakers i auditioned in my home 3 other speakers see (similar products used). The vegas have weakness like any other but they have very powerful and well controlled bass with good extension. My friend has klipsh klf 20,s and a 15 inch klipch sub and he is not getting this kind of bass(to his amazment). When i first got these speakers i was kind of suprised cause they dont sound like your garden variety vegas, highs were slightly bright at first and mids were muffled but after (playing them in) they have evened out nicely. They dont image as well as some speakers but have good depth and a fair sound stage but i noticed less panning affects back and forth between speakers but an overall more acurate and powerful sound.I got these speakers from spidergear for $800 for the pair, they list for $1600. The difference from other vegas is that you aren't prone to listining fatige like other cv speakers. I do like these speakers overall more then the others i auditioned but to be honest nothing impreses me any more. These get four stars and the ar gets 2 the klipsh 3 the Psb gets 3 stars because it requires an amp that costs more than the speakers.Plus the psb sounded hollow with most recordings and shone on classical(i listin to jazz and classic rock)> The klipsch was to bright with lack of bass even with 2 twelves in each cabinet plus the baskets on the woofers is stamped metal (that is cheap)the AR1 had powerful but non musical bass (sloppy)more suited to home theater and the mid and highs are Magalloy and titaniun respectively. If a speaker is made out of metal it will sound like metal, i hated the sound, i like carver but not the subs for music i had sunfire sub in my listining room and these AL1000's sounded plenty powerful without the sub which i felt degraded the sound , hence the disatisfaction with the 500 watt sunfire amp in the ar1. say what you want about CV but i don't subscribe to snake oil magazine. Later......

What can I say? There is nothing I hate more than companies who make speakers to be used with powerful equipment (250W+) and they sound terrible. However, this is not the case here. These deafining speakers will keep your neighbors up, handeling 1000 max wattage. Put some ear plugs in because these can take the power. Whats better, is that Cerwin didn't forget about the mid and high range. They're great for jamming and at the same time, put up a great fight for the classical side of things. I haven't heard a better pair of speakers for overall power, besides at concerts. Formally, I owned a pair of RE-38 and there is considerable noticeable difference in overall quality. Have fun and invest in a nice pair of ear plugs!!!

There's no doubt about it, these speakers rule! Not only do they have the power to tear your house down, they also play a lot more HiFi than the rest of the, a bit "boomy" Cerwin Vega speakers!!
Give these speakers a least 200 hours of playing time before you pass jugdement on them! I wasn't all that thrilled about mine when I first got them. To me they sounded a bit screamy but now they've become very dynamic and I'm enjoyning every tone that comes out of them :)

I've had these speakers for almost a year now.
I bought them together with the very potent Nad 218THX amplifier(2x200 watt 8 0hm). From a local high-end audio retailer. I spent around an hour listening to these speakers before i actually bought them, trying out all my favorite music. And it sounded awesome to say the least,(they kicked the heck out of the Nad 909's just as a comparison)
Everything i had read about them was true. The shock came when i got home, first off the version of the speakers i got didn't have any front cover and no possibility of adding one. Which frankly makes them look like huge and ugly cinder blocks with three cooking-pot lids placed in them.
Secondly the speakers sounded muddled in the low frequencies and almost screamed when playing anything with modest amount of treble.
I ofcourse called the retailer about this, who said that the speakers needed quite a bit of time to be "played in right". So the time went on and after about 100 hours of playing they cleared up amazingly, espcially the mid-range 6½" woofer started sounding like someone pulled an old dirty rag out of it.
And now after approximently a year, they just keep getting better and better sounding.
So if you're into either techno and/or rock music, don't care much about looks.
And want speakers that'll blow you away(litterally), go for the AL-1000
it won't dissapoint you if you just have a bit of patience and a moderatly power full amplifier(150 watt+, despite what Cerwin Vega says anything below just dosn't cut it).
Actually a good set of speaker cables are needed to get the most out of these speakers. So remember to get some decent cables for them, (I have taralabs RSC Prime 500 on mine).

P.S.
As far as i konw there are atleast three version of the AL-1000 one with front cover and black membranes, one with with off-white/natural membranes and no cover, and the ones i have which have no cover and black membranes.

Strength:

POWER!!! Well built

Weakness:

Mid Range needs time to clear up they say..

I have included a QSC 2450 RMX amp with the AL-1002. The amp is very powerful (750 - 900 watts @ 4 ohms in stereo). I have driven the speakers to atleast 450 watts of power a side and they can handle it very well... It's like they are asking for more juice.. they say it has a power handling of a 1000 watts peak.... but you know what, I do not need any more... All in all, it is a great speaker for the price and you can play it loader than you think. As for the mid's and highs, they do need some fine tuning but time will tell. Rumour has it that they will be discontinueing this model at Cerwin... what is next?

Get a pair while you still can... nothing too negative about them... If you like it loud and louder than loud, this is the speaker for you... remmember to get a good powerful amp and thick quality speakers cables...

Respect your neighbors and play somehting they like really loud... hahaha...

Enjoy.
