Strength:
STRONG Bass, Capable to go to very high power settings without any distortion; on the contrary, they sound better at high volume settings. The 12 inch woofers on MY speakers are Made in USA, and have high quality Coils and speaker design.
Weakness:
None other than the looks and quality of the cabinets & materials.
A friend of mine had these in storage for a few years. One day he decided to give them to me when he retired from the Police Department. I brought them home and noticed that the bright red surrounds were shot, so I had them replaced. One night I decided to hook them up to a MITSUBISHI DA-DA-A15DC AMP with a MITSUBISHI P-20 preamplifier and a MITSUBISHI F-10 tuner hooked up to a NUMARK CDN 22 Professional CD player. I was BLOWN AWAY with how much power these speakers were able to hold and conversely PUT OUT. I only cranked it up half way and my entire living room was rocking. The heavy Bass sound was reverberating through the 20 X 20 porcelain floor tiles. The Bass was so good and powerful, I actually had to turn it down from full power to 3/4 power. The treble on the preamp was set at the max and I could hear every detail the high and midranges in the music. I set the midrange and tweeter setting on each AT-12 speaker at max power settings, and used Peter Frampton’s classics for the test run. Let me tell you, these are not my prettiest speakers by far, nor are they the largest in my inventory, however, I felt like I was right there in the front row. Strength:
Efficient, cool Cerwin Vega look, well built, handles lots of power
Weakness:
Sloppy midrange and highs I bought a pair of the AT-12's new in '91 when I was 16 years old and kept them for 4 fun years. Back then Vegas were the it. I had one of the loudest systems-and back then listening to bass was just starting to become popular. These speakers were great at reproducing low bass and playing loud. However, like a lot of other people, as I got older I became more interested in the accuracy of the sound rather than how loud it plays. The AT-12's had somewhat muddy midrange and ear piercing treble. Eventually, in '95 I sold these and got me a pair of Definitive BP20's which I've had ever since. In terms of shear volume, the AT-12 are awesome-all speakers should have this kind of efficiency. Similar Products Used: Def Tech BP20 |

Strength:
tough,great bass,improves with upgrades
Weakness:
Highs could be better bu not bad. I bought my AT-10''s in 97 at futureshop and played them through my 100/w jvc receiver and was pleased with the additional bass I was getting. I then upgraded my receiver to an Onkyo tx-sv424 which may not be top of the line but a vast improvement from what I had. It seemed these speakers had come to life and I was very happy with the new found cleanliness and great bass. I have to wonder how much better they would continue to sound if I were to spend a little money on a great amp. When I bought these cv''s I compared them to a pair of infiniti''s at the same price range. Althought the infiniti''s were slightly crisper the cv''s seem to give a broader sound and fill the room. Now that I have recently purchased a sub I have low end coming out the wazoo and could probably go with a crisper speaker. None the less a great all round speaker that rocks. |

Strength:
bass
Weakness:
none I can find Bought these at a yard sale, have always admired Cerwin''s from afar and was tickled to find a mint pair at a yard sale. Lady wanted $25, but I only had $14 in my wallet, she said fine. said they were her sons. Sound great playing back movies, obviates the need for a subwoofer |

After an ill-fated trip to circuit city, I happened across these speakers sitting among other low fi gear. These speakers are pure sludge. The bass is muddy, boomy and ill defined from it's cheap canvas like woofer. The midrange is almost countersunk into its sound envelope. These don't even play well at moderate volume. They are strident, and unfocused on virtually all recorded material. If you want loud, for cheap, get some Radio Shack Mach III's. They are at least clean and balanced by compare. These model Cerwin-vega should be avoided at all cost. They are built with the worst possible parts, for the poorest fidelity. I cannot say enough negative things about these. |

I owned these for about 5 yrs, and just sold them TODAY. Bass response is out of control. Everything else is mediocre. If you like Rap or Heavy Metal or Action Movies, this might be the way to go.... |

Strength:
scary
Weakness:
scary Good for blues and blues based rock. And 3D computer shooters such as Duke Nukem and Quake series, so long as no easily terrified dogs in vicinity. Although you may require optical or coaxial digital connectors on both the computer soundcard and the receiver/amplifier for the latter use. I can't be sure, but I think I fried an older Technics amp by running an analog signal out of the soundcard, that was intended for self-amplified computer speakers, to the CD-in connector on the amp. Not good for cheaper Recievers or Amps I really like these speakers. they will take anything you throw at them. ABSOLUTELY UNDESTRUCTABLE!...I recently had a big party and had the Cerwins going all night at almost full power. They are rated at 200 watts RMS...I have a 200 Watt per channel RMS Sansui G9700DB. They ROCKED for ^ hours straight! Similar Products Used: JBL, Altec Lansing, Tannoy |

Strength:
Hard pounding bass, excellent power handling, durability
Weakness:
ticks off the neibors These speakers rock hard and are virtually indestructable. I have had these speakers for 14 years and they still sound better than any other speakers I have had. The bass produced from these is amazing and it seems like the more you give them the more they like it. The controls on the tweeters and mids are also useful in my opinion especially if you don't use a graphic equalizer. I have tried many different types of speakers on my surround sound system and always come back to these. If you can still find a set of theese I highly recommend them. Don't buy them if your neibors are easily disturbed. Similar Products Used: Pioneer 15" towers, pioneer 10" floor, sony, klh, bose, Vega e-310 |
