Strength:

LOUD!!, very clear sound, even at very high volume levels.
very good build, tight and DEEP bass. good highs and mids.

Weakness:

HEAVY, but I guess that is also a good thing?

AWSOME I bought these about three weeks ago and I love them!
best speakers I have ever had. I have them in my dorm room, and they will shake my whole building! I have them hooked up to my Yamaha HTR-5250 with optical cable, and they will get insanely loud. If you like loud punk, rap,or rock these are the speakers for you. The fifteens really aren't any better, just a hell of a lot bigger and heaver. I also use them with my HT and they rock there also. I can't say enough good things about these speakers!!!!

I own the LS-10's which are pretty much the same thing except w/ 10" woofer instead of 12" and the only prob I've noticed is slight tweeter/midrange "crackling" (distortion) on some high pitched sounds. I've heard it from TV/DVD and CD and am curious if theres something wrong w/ my speaker. I've also tried 2 different Dolby Digital receievers so thats not it....

Strength:

Loud, good bass (that's a new one...), nice highs, decent for both music and theater.

Weakness:

Quality control is a little bit worse than I expected. One of my speakers is weaker than the other... why? Anyway, I am working on getting that one replaced - that won't be a problem with 30-day money back at Best Buy.

SYSTEM Includes:

Yamaha HTR-5250 Receiver
FRONTS - Cerwin Vega LS-12 front speakers
CENTER - cheap KLH satellite (SUCKS)
REARS - AIWA 80watt Bookshelf speakers (OK)
DVD - Pioneer DVD-414

I am in the process of building my system right now and I wanted to keep the total cost of speakers and receiver below $1500.

I like the CVs, especially for the price range. I liked the Paradigm speakers better for a similar price range but I wanted to put them on the Best Buy card (18 months interest free) but BB doesn't sell anything better.

Also, I recommend that if you go to Best Buy, get the stupid $25/pair speaker warranty - It adds 4 years more to the manufacture warranty and it extends coverage for EVERYTHING including blowouts, beer spills, etc! (9 years total on the CVs!) Other stores have similar extended warranties as well and you will be pissed when you pay $50 for shipping to send them to the manufacturer when you blow out a tweeter!

The LS-12s have good, clean bass, and I don't have the $ching$ for a subwoofer right now. As most of the opinions state, they are awesome for music. But, they also work great for theater. I can't wait to complete my system and get LS-8 speakers for the rears and the matching center channel. The mids are improving as I break them in.

I actually liked the LS-12s better than the LS-15s for two reasons. Price and Tonal quality. They are almost half the price and I liked the balance of the sound they produce much better. Also, they get loud enough for me when powered by my Yamaha receiver.

I give 5 stars for both ratings since they are only second to paradigm in the price range and there are hundreds of speakers that are worse.

Strength:

great sound with plenty of clear bass

Weakness:

bulky size

I purchased a pair of LS-12 speakers about 4 months ago for $400 at Best Buy. They have served me well, and I'm really pleased with the overall sound they produce. I've had a little trouble with either the midrange or tweeter of the right speaker, but I suspect that the buzzing noise I often hear is due to a loose hex nut holding one of the speakers down, or a rattling wire inside the box. Either way, the problem is very minor. It's the only difficuly I've encountered with the speakers, aside from fitting both of them, my receiver, myself, and 2 other passengers into a Saturn station wagon to make the 100 mile ride to school. If you've got the room for them, these speakers should fit the bill. Plus, the bass they produce is enough for me to not need a separate subwoofer.

System:
Sony STR-DE835 receiver and a pair of LS-12's

Strength:

Bass output, power handling, SPL leve.

Weakness:

vocals and high end clarity

I don't own these speakers, but am very familiar with them due a friend owning them. He has them hooked up to a Harman Kardon AV300 receiver.

Of course, the first thing you notice is the bass. That's probably why 90% of them sell, the initial response is to the bass. But these speakers would be hard to live with. The midrange and vocals are very hollow sounding, and the treble sounds like it's coming from inside a can.

I couldn't stand the sound of my friends speakers, so I rewired the inside of the speakers for him completely. I then made some good interconnects for him, and it helped. The soundstage is wider now with better imaging. But the vocals are still really hard to listen to for more than 30 minutes. I also ordered some high quality dome midranges from Madisound for him to replace the cheap ones that came with it. Hopefully that will help...we'll see.

I am comaring this system to my home setup of Citation 7.0 preamp, Harman Kardon PA-5800 amp, Warfedale Saphire 89 main speakers and Modus 8 rears. Wharfedale Saphire center channel, and PSB Subsonic subwoofer. There really is no comparison. I don't have much more money in my setup than he does, but you would never know it by the sound.

My advice is don't impulse buy these because of the bass. And quit doing your shopping for home audio at Circuit City and Best Buy! Teenagers who are into bass will like these, but those with discriminating ears will not.

Strength:

LOTS of bass, great for keg parties

Weakness:

I hear a slight buzz at times, no clue what the cause is

I really wanted a speaker that would take a pounding and the vegas do it very well.. I love to crank them (my neighbors love me)

*** DOES ANYONE HAVE A SUGGESTION FOR A POWER AMP???

Strength:

Massive, clean bass
Durable foam surround

Weakness:

Midrange speaker sounds a little odd, like there's an echo from within the driver's enclosure.

Carpet floors will put pressure on the grill.

These are overall a good buy. Bass this clean and deep doesn't come from subwoofers costing as much as this whole speaker system. I suggest using these in conjunction with a second pair of different speakers, perhaps satellite or bookshelf speakers, to improve the midrange sound clarity.

It may be possible to fix the midrange. The problems appear to come from resonance in the driver's plastic enclosure. Different stuffing could be all that's needed.

Strength:

Booming bass, but not overpowering, crisp highs, decent mids, price, aesthetics.

Weakness:

For the price, not many. Would have liked to have some non-skid material to put on the bottom of the speakers..on hardwood floors.

I am truly a beginning audio enthusiast, and I listened to many (probably too many) before I made my decision. I may not be terrifically educated from an audio perspective, but I know what I like. Boston, ZZTop, Lynard Skynard, Jazz, and Classical music. I am already impressed by the way these monsters cultivate the signals fed into them. Although my receiver (HK3270) is a bit underpowered, the speaker handles what it is given with efficiency. Even at low volumes, the music and the voices shine through. I know they will sound better as time goes on, but I am pleased with the purchase ($375), the appearance, and the sound. Sounded as if Boston was in my room performing for ME. And isn't that what it is all about?

Strength:

Great sound!

Weakness:

FUSES BLOW! Or maybe that's my amp?

Great speakers, my only complaint is fuse blowing but It's probably from cranking the volume to quickly. My amp is a Kenwood VR-307 (100wX5) so maybe that tells the story. Either way their a great speaker.
