These are two-way standmounting speakers beutifully and luxurily finished from valmut veneered woods. Standing only 28 cm high and weighing 8 KG, this herolds its rigidity, tapping on its side give a pretty good feeling of compactness. They consist of 27 mm textile dome tweeter{the same as in The Academy series), but specially redesigned for these speakers and of a doped paper woofer 13 cm in width being definetely able to fill in smaller rooms with a taut bass. They have a suprising bass responce down to 35 Hz for such a small bookshelf set-up.What's more the quality of a tweeter{Danmark producer-Scan Speak)further sustains the emission ability over the whole spectrum.While auditioning these little speakers in my 6x4 m room I found no artifacts in sound at all, their overall perfomance was neutral. These speakers were not made to deceive the listener, what comes in goes out, with a minimum of coloration. Even around the crossover frequency(1350 Hz) is not any distortion audible, the fourth-order Linkwitz-Riley crossover design did its job quite persuassively. What I mostly appreciate on these speakers is the trebble. The splendid tweeter pruduces crisp trebble, which are superbly defined, fast and continuously fully in control with a smashing transient responce. The space is delivered with presence and sense for detail, even when many instruments play at once( like the whole orchestra) these speakers are able to catch the stunning dynamic wallop of it though remaining discernable and detailed, in to the bargain.
I have a little to complain about the Reference 1000, I thing it's a pity they haven't been imported to the US yet. Here in Europe They gained a few good rave reviews. I'm vigorously convinced they indeed diserve a fair shake.
