Strength:

Imaging and great presence

Weakness:

Power hog and is best with a subwoofer

I have owned these since they were a new pair in 1982. They sounded great then and they still do not disappoint. They are terrific for classical music and best for opera. Good for jazz, but rock really needs the Velodyne sub I have. Woodwind and vocal detail are outstanding. Female vocals do exceptionally well- try the TeKanawa crossover CD with Nelson Riddle and listen to "How High the Moon." Transient response is excellent - especially considering this is a 5 way system.

I have often thought about replacing them because of their size and because of the new technology. The problem is that sound this good is expensive today - and I have come to realize that realistic sound with great imaging in 1982 is still great today. I have yet to hear something that makes me want to run out and replace the DQ-10s - unless you're in the $40,000 range - which I refuse to consider.

The only real down side (once you get a sub) is the power requirement. I use a 250 w/ch power amp. It offers the headroom you need and has the high current capability these speakers require. Even with raw power like this, you still won't drive them to rock concert levels (although I would not want to do so).

There has to be a reason why so many people still use these speakers.
