The sound throug these speakers are very good if you consider the price, which is around 4000 NOK. And with my homemade pre-amp and kl.A power-amps these speakers produces the best sound I have heard from so cheap speakers. Try solid core speaker-cable on these speakers!!!The low frequency area becomes more natural and open.....

I bought my Dali a year ago. They really well and it was not hard choose between Paradigm Mk5 and Dali 104. And I love them, but i miss a little in the deep end.

If your from Europe take a trip to Denmark and buy them there, i paid $342 a pair, the the new version Dali 505 costs $371 a pair, thats for 2 speakers.

My system: Micromega Junior -> Audioquest Turquoise -> NAD 306 -> Audioquest F-14 -> Dali 104.

Music: Classical, new age instrumental, world music, light pop and synth.

* For: Excellent dynamics and musicality. Sweet, detailed midband and nice
soundstaging. Lets the music flow. Engaging with low-end power.

* Against: The bass could be more controlled, needs be positioned away from
walls (at least 30cm to rear wall) to give the tight and controlled bass
it's capable of. Needs spies or soft feets (from Sonic Design) to lift up
the otherwise low soundstage (I use mine slightly tilted upwards).

I've had a love story with the Dali 104's for many years now. With the
right cables (solid core seems to give a drier, tighter bass) and right
positioning, they truly delivers. Suits most types of music very well.
Good all-rounders, but not the last word in exact detailing and positioning. They're more about feet-moving music than analytical listening.

The new DALI 505's, has a tighter and more detailed sound.

Hi,Have had a pair of Dali 104 since about when they came out (as a new product). This muste have been some 10-years by now, and I'm still happy with then. There is a good bass extention, thougt a little "bumpy" and loose. The (very) highs are both rolled off and "harsh". The midrange is nice but a little loose on focus, voices and instruments tends to move around in the soundstage.
Does this sounds like if it's a crappy product? Well, it ain't! All the "complaints" are really minor, common to most cheap floorstanders, and easy cured If someone really bothers. The bass is cured with a sock in the port, the midband if you remove the grille and put a flower (or something heavy) on top of the spreaker and cones beneath, and the treble can be cured with biwireing (but you have to exchange the bindingposts and do a little (easy) soldering on the cross-ove to be able to do that). But I think the fact that I havn't bothered to do much to my speakers - except for the flowerpot that is - gives a hint that the problems are easy - or should I say enjoyable - to live with.
So the rating is for a product that is not without flaws but easy to live with. And basically it is a cheap floorstander, and those are often even worser. So I'll would have given it a three star if it wasn't for the fact that I've had them for a good ten years by now. And with that in mind they must be worth a four star. Not because I've had them :-), but because the flaws are so negligible and easy to live with that I have had no urge to exchange them even though they was bought as a "in the meantime" speaker.

For its low price (about $600 in Europe), the Dali 104is a lot of speaker, well built, with the typical continental
sound: clean, balanced, wide ranging, dynamic, perhaps a
bit too much hifi.

An excellent buy for whoever wants a big speaker and is
on a budget.

I used to have DALI 104's and liked them for their transparent, natural sound and the ambience they produced. Their bass was fast and clear but did not have as much gusto as I had expected. The soundstage (in my room) was rather strange: although wide and deep, but LOW: the musicians were squatting on the floor. Two tips: 1) excellent for tube amplifiers (both sonic character and sensitivity -- 93 dB -- match) 2) use small spiked metal frames to support them.

I've bought this speaker a couple of weeks ago, but before I bought them I listened to another bunch of speaekers in that price range, like the KEF Q50, Mission 752, B&W 602, Rega and some Jamos, but the Dalis stood above this list.I have an old Akai amplifier and they really kick butt with it. I also listened to them with a Denon PMA-S10 integrated amplifier and they sounded even better. The build quality is also very good for the pricing.

I bought this pair of speakers 7 months ago. They produce a very realistic sound for the price for me even better than the Mission752's. In the meantime I changed my amplifier - and I can say that with better quality component the music through these loudspeakers sounds even better.
