Strength:
loud, good bass and highs
Weakness:
they are too big and weigh a ton I basically like hard rock/metal and when I got to CC I asked what would sound good with a Pioneer Elite? he showed me the DCMs actually there was only 1 left in the whole store!first thing I wondered was if these were house brand speakers cause I never heard of them before. I liked the sound but the guy had trouble locating a store with any left. finally I went home and called another CC and they had exactly 2 pairs left one was already spoken for. when I got home with them I was very impressed. also the bass is so good you really dont need a subwoofer with them. I also like the way they use a mid-bass it adds to the fullness. I have used Cerwinvegas that cost alot more and had too much midrange and RSL which is now no more and they didn't have enough bass. so DCM is the one to go with for the price Similar Products Used: CV, RSL, Cannon |

Strength:
Handle power well. Excellent bass response. High value. Reliable.
Weakness:
Mid ranges are overpowering. Lacking clarity and imaging for the discriminating listener. Crude passive crossovers. Low level engineering. Built to a price. Must switch on Loudness control at low levels. I've read many of the reviews on this speaker here and am amazed at the range of opinions. Some hate them, others love them. Compared to reviews I've read for higher priced speakers, I'd say the level of expertise is much lower on these speakers, including myself, therefore much of the advise here must not be taken seriously. My experience with these speakers is that I bought them originally to upgrade from a set of Bose AM-5's. They satisfied my needs for improved frquency response and loudness, especially down low. The bass, as almost everyone has commented on, is the strongest feature of these speakers. The mid range comes alive at higher volumes but is ver bright and almost uncomfortable after a long period of listening. The tweeters are also inefficient and that is why these fall way short on imaging. I run an EQ to improve the response but find myself having to make adjustments for nearly every song to suit my tastes. What I find most annoying about these speakers is that the dynamic range changes with volume. My EQ settings for low levels have to be trimmed down at higher power. In my opinion, an EQ should be set once, to "trim" the response to compensate for the characteristics of the listening environment and then left alone no matter what the volume or source. I now run a vintage Pioneer SX-1980 that is rated at 275WPC RMS, continuous with less than .001% THD at full rated power. I can easily blow the circuit breakers on the KX-12's with this reciever and have already blown one breaker clean open. I must say, they handle the power well until the circuit breakers trip. They are a truly impressive speaker for the money if high volume with OK clarity is an objective. Let's face it though, you get what you pay for and with the KX-12's you get a little more but, don't expect them to impress your buddy with the B&W's or OHM's. If you're on a tight budget, these speakers are a good value and can be easily "messaged" with an EQ to be satisfactory for general purpose and especially Rock & Roll. I'm ready to upgrade now and will be looking for a nice set of Ohm Walsh 4 or 5's or maybe some Dahlquist DQ-10's to compliment my SX-1980. Similar Products Used: Bose AM-5 |

they can keep you warm if you burn them for firewood
Weakness:
sound How can you say a speaker is the best just because it goes loud? Where is the quality of the sound? Let me just get started on these speakers by saying they totally suck. Their bass is boomy and is not tight like a real speaker+sub combo is. The mids and highs.. well they are just harsh and loud. The imaging is nonexistant. These speakers can never disappear. Don't even get me started about how inprecise these speakers are. When i tried to hear these on an onkyo amp at circuit city, I found them totally unlistenable. Bose 301's even sounded better than them. Do yourself a favor and go listen to some real speakers like b&w, nht, energy, paradigm, dynaudio, psb. If you have a pair of these, throw them away. They have absolutely no resell value. You'd have to pay someone to take them they are so bad. Similar Products Used: B&W, NHT, Paradigm |

Strength:
powerful base, realistic dense sound
Weakness:
needs space, reverbs in small rooms The speakers are great, the base will make the earth quake. You do need to be at least 16 feet away to achieve the minimum distence for a maximum sound quality. which gives me a little trouble becouse my room is only about fifteen feet long and 8 feet wide so i find i run into trouble when i try to crank them to hell, which is only about half volume. I mostly like to listen at low to mid volume and at that level there better than anything i,ve ever listened to. i get tired of people who don't understand acoustics and want to play little multi-media surround speaker units that are totally dummy proof right after reading sound systems for dummy's. these speakers need enough space to breath because they are ported in the back. they need enough space to project the deep realistic sound they produce. they need a good amp to power them, i have the sony str-de845 there set to mach the sound of the recording exactly, they do as closely as the human ear can tell. crap in crap out. I love them I give each one a hug before I go to bed. Similar Products Used: none |

everything
Weakness:
nothing, except they are heavy as hell! These DCM's rock the house! I have a 500 watt reciever and my fav. thing to do is crak it all the way up. The speakers both look good and sound good. I use them as the front channel in a home theater and they work great. Compared to my other speakers (bose 901, and polk) The DCM's are louder and they sound more 3D. I also like the fact that they handle all the bass, there is no need for a sub, even in a home theater. Similar Products Used: cerwin vega, bose, jbl... |

Imaging, bass, size........ First thing I thought when I saw these, damn they are loud. If I'm not mistaken, they are something like 100dbs 1w/1m. They seem very efficient. They may be loud, but I dont know about anyone else, I'm into sound quality rather then loudness. If I needed a quick pair of speakers for a party or something, this would be the ones I would get. Most dj speakers, or even speakers that are just as good for djing but used in parties(not saying that these are dj speakers, they just seem like they would be good for djing or at a party) can be out-performed by the little, not as loud HT or audiophile speakers. If that makes any sense. I just look at it this way, if oyu put these speakers up to a pair of bookshelfs that are the same price, you are most likely going to get a better sound out of the bookshelfs. This is because companies spend more money to make floorstanding speakers than bookshelfs, because bookshelfs are about half the size. All of this pointless rambling is just meaning that these speakers are made to sound really good. They are mainly for people misguided by the decibal. I auditioned them at circuit city, and I was turned off right away. The mids sounded scratchy, the bass sounded too boomy and unrealistic, and the highs sounded like a paper bad crumbing. Over all, I thought these would be good for misguided college students needing loud music for parties, or someone with a major budget. When I made my decision, I decided to go with PSB's Image3LR. They are much smaller, and have a much smaller driver setup, but can out-perform the DCMs anyday. They arent as loud because they are mainly sound quality speakers rather than cheap party speakers. If I were anyone considering buying these speakers becuase of a massive budget, turn away and get some bookshelfs for the same price. You will most likely get a much better sound for your money and will be saticfied. Similar Products Used: cerwin vega(the only floor standing speaker that is better for the cheap price), vintage AR |

heavy, big, and doesn't come with floor spikes? I had these speakers for like 3 years and they still sound good in my set up.I was looking to get some new speakers this year but after I listen to other speakers I don't think so I'll just upgrade to a outlaw amp for more power.People don't like these speakers and I have no idea why?Maybe it's just the music they listen to.I listen to Metallica,Brotha lynch hung,MC Eiht,Doomsday production,Mr.Scarface,Staind, limp bizkit,to name a few and to me everything sounds detailed.O.k.now on to dvd's just so you have an idea about me. I have around 300 dvd's and in my life the receiver and speakers are alway's on except when everybody is asleep.I watch all kind's of movies from Snatch to old jackie chan movies to anime and EVERY MOVIE IS DETAILED ALSO to me.Like when I use to have 1 of the speakers close to the window. While watching the MATRIX the scene where the rain is falling off the building. I thought it was really raining! I even had to look outside even no sh*t and still do on some movies also when there is a movie that has a phone ringing you know little stuff like that.So if I had to chose all over I'll would get these all over again even At the same price that I paid 3 years ago I believe that they're that GOOD.So thank you for the outstanding product DCM I'll be looking at your product's in the future. Crazy Deep BASS!!! Clear mids and Nice Hi's
Weakness:
none These speakers are just great for music. Especially with a lot of bass. I used these for about 4 hours at a party cranked up pretty loud w/ my Sony 100x2 and they performed beautifully. Everyone said they loved the music and how loud and clear it was. DCM is coming out w/ a new KX12 which handle 500 watts. I would recommend waiting and hearing the new ones first. But these just plain slam for an inexpensive music speaker. |
