Strength:
Great sound at a low price full sound range and incredible sensitivity of 99db meaning you dont need a huge reciever
Weakness:
size... yep thats about it ive heard $10000 speakers and they sound about the same They are overall great speakers, great price, great sound, and doesn't require a lot of power since it has a sensitivity of 99db, but it can also take a lot of power too if you have it to give. It also has a very large range of 20Hz to 20KHz meaning that you dont need a sub to back them up although a sub would be nice |

Strength:
Very efficient, look good, nice sound (to me).
Weakness:
Not much compared to its competition. Had these speakers for quite a while, and I, for one, am impressed. I see a lot of people who really dog these speakers, and they must have much more articulate hearing than yours truly. I think they sound very good considering the price (about $600 for the fronts, center, and two KX-6 surrounds). I keep trying to hear what people hate about them, and I keep failing. They sound great to me. Just my two cents. Similar Products Used: JBL, Cerwin Vega, other "Best Buy" type speakers. |

Not audiophile OK, this is my third review of these speakers. I bought my DCM KX 12 series 2 speakers two years ago at Circuit City and I am still very happy with them. Years ago I owned a pair of BIC 6 speakers - does anyone remember these monsters? Well they were strong and loud, just like these DCM speakers. I have had zero problems with these DCM's and I play them alot and loud. I especially like watching and listening to live concert videos like Pink Floyd's 'Pulse', Dire Straits 'On the Night', Eric Clapton's '24 Nights'. Really anything with good sound recording. Some people who are reviewing these speakers are too hung up on 'audiophile' to know a good deal when they see one. I have owned Yamaha receivers and other audiophile equipment in the past and overall I was disappointed because I felt I got ripped off because I paid so much more for such little improvement in sound quality. I say buy what sounds good to you, not what some salesman or 'expert' tries to sell you, and read audio magazines with a healthy dose of cynisicm. DCM makes the best sounding speaker for the price. Strength:
Blow you out of the house volume!
Weakness:
One of my speaker enclosures is rattling, but it's probably just a loose screw. I finally went out after several years with a crappy stereo and decided to get a real system. Not an audiophile system, just something cool for my new house. I am old school. I don't want my bass hidden in the closet. I like to play music LOUD. I spent about 1,200 dollars on an ONKYO receiver. It was an open box buy at CC. It was a really nice receiver for the money. The salesman at CC kept trying to get me to go with satellite speaker system and telling me how great they were. He didn't know I just came from a real stereo shop (just a drooling trip- I wasn't going to drop $10,000 for a system, but they were fun to listen to!). If you don't drop some serious cash on a home theater, you are throwing money in the trash. That store had bass in the floor that would stop your heart. CC has a bunch of junk as far as surround systems go. Sad thing is, they didn't have anything that would work in standard loud speakers, either. I was on my way out the door to Best Buy to get the 15" 500 watt powered sub (cv) and some muddy sounding cv main speakers when the guy finally showed me the DCM's. I couldn't believe my ears! I was sure it was one of those sound room tricks where they supplement the sound you are hearing and you go home with junk. I had never heard of DCM. Anyway, I took them home and threw in some bass and rattled glasses out of my cabinets, pictures off the wall and everything off the top of the entertainment system. I love these things! I picked up some CV AT-10's at a garage sale the other day to sell on ebay. I hooked one of them up on the stereo and left a DCM plugged in. I got out my trusty Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill and dropped some brass monkey. At 1/4 volume the DCM was running clean (as always) and the CV was about to blow its sub across the room! I didn't press it any harder because I have to sell them but I could have ravaged those tens. I could have literally melted the speakers. The sound was loose, there was no treble, and they can't handle a real receiver. I am glad someone is making a real speaker that doesn't cost thousands of dollars. Similar Products Used: CV |

I don't know how a lot of people can compare DCM to other companies like PSB, Pardigm, NHT ($1000 and less). If you have a low end receiver ($200 and less) you won't hear a difference, which is probably what most of you have. I'm not saying you have to get a really expensive power amp, preamp etc, but even a decent receiver will show drastic improvements of the speakers. DCM are for people that like loud bass. I can compare because I had Cerwin-Vega a year ago and thought they sounded good until I got PSB's, and a powered sub. A good powered sub goes much lower than any of these low end mass produced speakers like DCM and CV. All I want to get across is listen to a lot of different speakers (high end too) and then make your decision. This speaker shouldn't be on the Hall of Fame. |

These speakers are bass hounds. I finally heard them at Circuit city. If bass is your bag and you don't care much about accuracy, clairity, natural sound etc. etc. then these may be your thing. They sound a helluva lot better than Cerwin Vega's. But that's really about it, These aren't my type of speaker. I just can't recommend these to any body truly interested in Mid or high end audio. I know you might be thinking these are expensive speakers. But they aren't. And for this price you can get a pair of Paradigm mini monitors or Phantoms and increase overall sound quality by a long long way. You bass freaks may not like that idea due to the fact that the Minimonitors have a 1 inch tweeter and a 6.5 inch woofer and the phantoms have 2 6.5 inch woofers but trust me, these will make your ears much happier. If you do want the heavy bass without spending money on REAL speakers and a sub, then these just may be your thing. 2 Stars, they just aren't very good. |

Bought them last night. Played a few things - some choral stuff, a kettle-drum exhibition, some jazz. But not very loud. Thought they were pretty good. Excellent imaging, for example. Came home at noon today and played the live John Fogerty album with the volume on my 60-watt Carver receiver about a quarter of the way up. These speakers just about stuck me to the wall. If you want, to put it succinctly, LOTS of sound, these are it. And at a very attractive price, I might add. |

Strength:
bass, lots of it
Weakness:
tweeter - horns suck I really like these speakers, but then again I haven't listened to a $1000 pair yet. They are th ebest value speakers out there. You can't compare apples & oranges. This is not an audiophile speaker. It's the best speaker in the Circuit City/Best Buy genre of speakers. Similar Products Used: none |
