First, my background. I'm a speaker fanatic, and have easily had hundreds of pairs through my home. Big, small, cheap, pricey, you name it. And plenty of good ones, most of the classic JBL's like the L100, L36 etc, NHT's, Monitor Audio (no, not the polk kind), classic AR's, totl Jamo's, take your pick. I saw a pair of these pop up on craigslist, so I looked them up. Fantastic reviews. So I picked them up. Honestly, DCM hasn't exactly been a front runner in quality speakers, or even a qualifier since the old time frames, and now they are owned by MTX, again, not exactly a name associated with audiophile speakers, I wasn't expecting to do anything other than flog them for a week and resell them. It's been three years, and they haven't moved from my living room. Out of MANY speakers that claim "oh, you won't need a sub with these", these are the only ones I've had where you really don't. I don't know how they get so much deep solid bass out of these things. I'm sure the enormous cabinets are part of it, yet, I was truly amazed. And, after all the speakers I've had over the years, that doesn't happen too often anymore. Are they quite as detailed as my AR58s's? No, but pretty darn close. And they do put out the sound! You'll need some watts though. I'd say the sensitivity might be even a little less than the 89 rating, but throw some watts at these and you'll be amazed!

I have these speakers with the rest of DCM's current bookshelf line as my main surround and music listening speakers. These particular towers, IMO, are extremely good considering the price. They are larger then average towers, and have been well designed to provide a good, full range. I have looked inside the cabinet and have noticed that the speakers are braced well and there has been attention spent on tailoring a good 3-way crossover. Overall, this makes the speaker have good detail, midbass, and spacial cues. While listening to SACDs, CDs, or vinyl, I tend to just listen through these mains (and the LFE is handled by a strong 12" 500W sub). When I first got these speakers, I had them with an older 10" sub that didn't really go down much farther then these. So it was only really useful for my surrounds. I decided to get a new sub, and wound up building one with a TC Sounds 12" driver and a 500W amp. Ported and tuned to go down to 16hz, this subwoofer is a very good compliment to these speakers. If you are looking to pair a subwoofer for a 2.1,5.1, or 7.1 setup, I would highly recommend skipping DCM subwoofer offerings and looking at more expensive subwoofers.
