Strength:

Excellent customer service from Def Tech(need help? contact the compay, you will be impressed). Small foot print. Look good. soft midrange.

Weakness:

High is not as detailed as some competitors. Cannot biwire.

I have experienced many real good speakers or highly reputed speakers such as Apogee Centaur, B&O 150s, Klipsch Heresy, Vandersteen 2ce, and several Maggies(MG1, 2, 3, and .5). Like many other Sterephiles, I continuously change my speakers and other components. Currently, I have Magnepan .5 and Defnitive BP-10. I think BP-10s are excellent speakers with good look. Even though BP-10s have no detailed sound as some planar speakers, BP-10 have very smooth and warm sound. People say they are just good for HT, but I think they are good enough for serious music. Another virture of BP-10s are their high efficiency. I can drive them with 20 watts amp with passive preamp. I will enjoy BP-10 until I find another attractive speaker. I have owned BP10Bs for over a month now, and they are a great improvementover my old BP6s, the bass is tight and goes really low, but gets
really boomy on some tunes since my listening room is really small, it
is a dorm room. It matched really well with my Rotel Amplifier and
Parasound Preamplifier, and Sony ES player. It sounds smooter as they
break in. They have a big soundstage, but sometimes highs might get
harsh, and as I said bass gets boomy in the wrong rooms. Other than that
I recommend these speakers to anyone, especially if you like listening
to trance music, Robert Miles type, or house music, they sound incredible.
They sound ok when listening to classical compared to other speakers.

The ones I got are the 10B, don't kno what is the diff or do people jsut obmit the B at the end? These are being used as surround channels for my HT setup (BP2000TL, CLR2000. I have tried piping 2 channel into it and have to say they are pretty nice. Of course, it was just for curiosity since I bought these unheard (I was auditioning with BP2X as surround). I would recommend these to anyone looking for speakers in that price range.

Strength:

stereo no matter where you are sitting

Weakness:

major lack of imaging

I have owned and loved a pair of DR-7 bookshelf speakers for about 4 years. I just bought a Rotel RSP-980 preamp and RB-980 amp, and decided that the DR-7s could be moved into the den to make room for a new set of living room speakers.

I auditioned Paradigm Reference, Dynaudio, B&W, etc. I listened to the BP10s and thought that for the cost/performance, they were the best choice.

Out of the box I was not impressed. I rearranged my living room 3 times with no luck. I thought that maybe they just needed be be 'broken in' (as I have read here and the manual states). I played CDs while I wasn't home for about 30 hours. Still did not like the sound.

What I missed from my bookshelfs (which were $400) was exact imaging. I could hear exactly where each instrument was supposed to be. With the BP10s, it was not very clear. I could also hear a lot more detail with the bookshelfs (a singers lips sticking together, breaths, etc).

They might be decent home theater speakers, but for music I was definetly not impressed. Looks like the Dynaudio Audience 50s are coming soon...(I am returning my BP10s).

FYI: My listening room is an exact rectangle - no odd corners, etc. I liked the BP10s in the store, but on my system in my house they were not at all impressive.

Hi, i am a student from teccart institut of montréal. Today, i had a chance to lisent to the Definitive Technology BP10, i was very impress to ear to nice efficiency and dynamic from your loudspekers, i tink your one of the best, i wish could by a pair of the BP10, but the price of the QUEBECSON was to high (1500+tx). I would like to have a cheaper price in canadian money, and the place and adress to by them. By the way, my project in college is a amplifier pure classe ''A''. All audiophile nose, the heart of the sond, it is the speakers. thank you and i hope i get some news.

Unfortunately the room in which my BP10s are placed is not optimally arranged (it's a weird shape), so one of my speakers had to be placed at an angle with respect to the wall behind it. Also my rear speakers (Bose 201 Series II) are also located in an off location (again due to the shape of the room and its furniture). Given these parameters the BP10s are performing above and beyond my expectations. Matched by an M&K v125 sub, the speakers fill the room with outstanding sound. Exceptional home theater performance using a Definite center channel.

Strength:

Bipolar: Awesome for Home Theater

Weakness:

Bipolar: Lack of clarity in music listening

I found that these speakers were truly amazing home theater speakers. "Filling" the room with sound is really the best way to describe how the BP10B perform. Altought this is a plus for HT, it has a downside: a great lost of precision when listening to music. Now I originally choose these because I didn't want to be restricted to a narrow sweet spot to enjoy good sound, today, I can say that I have some regrets.. When I take the time to sit down in my listening location and put on a cd, I don't geat the imagining that I can get when standing in front of a cheap Sharp mini-stereo...
Oh, ya.. Even if I use these with a DefTech PF15TL sub(just a few months later and I would have gotten twice the power on this sub..PF15TL+...), I know how the BP10's sound alone, and I found that they have enough bass to satisfy most listeners, nothing that will rattle your house though..

Bottom line is that, IMO, these are Home theater speaker, NOT music one's. If you are watching movies 75% of the time, go for it!

Strength:

Full and clean sound, excellent bass in small to midsize room

Weakness:

Need sub in a larger room; can be too open with brighter electronics

I have had those speakers for four years. They are the original BP10s, not the BP10Bs. Back then, four years ago, I could not find better speakers under $1,000 (and I paid $695 for a demo pair of BP10s). Driven by warmer electronics they can sound excellent for the money. I am using the Marantz SR-7000 and am very pleased with the sound, the Denon 3300 also sounded quite good with them. With brighter receivers/amps (Yamaha, etc.), they tend to be too open. The bipolar sound is addictive, you lose some imaging, but you get fuller sound. They never sound "boxy", and when I close my eyes, I cannot tell where the speakers are. With many other speakers, I can locate the speakers and can hear how the wood resonates. For HT use, the BP10s are excellent. I would recommend them to anybody looking for full range speakers below $1,000, but I would not recommend the BP8s or BP6s, their midrange is not good IMHO. There are many other speakers in this price range and I auditioned many of them before I bought mine. The most acclaimed brands on this site - Paradigm and PSB were very good but did not impress me enough, and what really impressed me was too expensive for me. The BP10s were the best compromise. They have decent bass without sub in a small to midsize room, but in a larger room they can sound tiny without a sub.

Strength:

The mids and highs are clean and crisp. There is nothing in this price range that will even touch them.

Weakness:

Nada

I recommnend these to any avid music listener or a person that wants great home theatre sound dynamics. Compared to my Bose, the Bose have better lows due to a 12 inch woofer, but as for mids and highs, the BP-10s have the most crisp and clear sounds, it really makes any good accoustic recording sound absolutely phenominal

Fantastic speakers. I spent 2 years looking for a new set of speakers - compared these against B&Ws, Boston Acoustics, Bose, and anything else I could find. The bipolar design really produces a rich sound. Although I do not have a sub-woofer, I've found the bass response to be excellent. In fact, my home alarm senses movement on windows, which are 15 feet away, when my receiver is turned up to 3 and the bass is flat.
