Strength:
I picked up a pair along with a CLR for $100. As is, they are very nice sounding units. I initially powered them with a midfi Yamaha 140wpc. After moving them to my massive Pioneer VSX-59txi, they really shine. I took an additional step and upgraded the front facing tweeters with Scanspeak D2904/950000. They are mind blowing now. One of the best speakers I’ve owned. They totally changed the sound. They are precise, smooth and a joy to listen too. I’ve used many older JBL. KEF, Mission, Infinity, Definitive tech, and loads of RBH. Weakness:
This buggar is big and heavy and awkward. I picked it up because a wife wanted it gone. Why thank you dear. It takes up room, but like my pappy used to says, “ there’s no substitute for cubic inches”. Keep your in wall speakers, while I get to rip my face off watching Godzilla. More fun than man should enjoy. Price Paid: 100

Bought my BP 20's without powered sub woffer in 1995 along with 2 Rotel RB-980BX amps. Running them in bridged mono gives me 360 watts per amp and with the new Onkyo C-7030 CD player just added provides awsome punch and clarity. Bass is irritating to neighbours blocks away. On first name basis with local police. Midrange sound color or timbre is sweet and highs are crisp and flawless. Happy camper! |

I had these speaker since 1993 brand new and I love them today as much as I loved them back then !!! I guess that says everything. I had the same problem with the glue on the speakers but definitive stood by their speakers !! they sent me 8 new drivers and new tweeters I guess so everything was new. how many company's will do that. I spoke with the owner of the company(I cant remember his name) back then and he just wanted to know how I liked the speakers. I told him it was the best speakers I heard. I wish they still made these !! |

Strength:
Power, looks, solid highs mid and lows. Sub is optional with these.
Weakness:
Need lots of power 150 watts minimum each of decent power. I own a pait of BP7001s towers (Paid $6500.00 new) they have 1500 watt built in subs, for $ 395.00 who could go wrong on the BP20's. I run them with an ONKYO m501 (150 per channel) the bp20 could take a lot more, they are incredible speakers, great for rock music nice gut thumping bass, I am not running a sub and I love the pure old school solid sound. You could run a sub and they will run right along with the expensive BP7001s with built in subs.

Strength:
Strong, deep, great range.
Weakness:
Big. Heavy. Ive had my BP-20s for a while now...and I still love them. I did have problems with the glue coming loose on the drivers, but all 8 were replaced under warranty - no charge, no hassle. The BP-20s dont have the integrated sub like the 2000s and 3000s...and I like this better. Id rather get my own sub and place it where i want in the room. Even though thse things go pretty low in the first place, you really dont need one. Sometimes on a great recording like Sade's "your not the mn" off "promise". WOW...close your eyes and the walls just melt away. Anyway, these speakers really shine at higher volumes and in bigger rooms. Get yourself a good sized amp because they love power. My 200 watt Mac drives them pretty well but they seem to taunt me for more...Play with the placement a bit...dont put them too close to the wall or corners...angle slightly inward for more brightness and pinpointing. |

Strength:
Very accurate, detailed reproduction of music (classical, jazz) across frequency spectrum. Sound/music outside the box. Good dispersion, front to back, left to right, quite vivid recreations of various recording venues. Concert in a hall sounds just like that. Stevie Wonder recorded multitrack inna studio box sounds like itself, no air. May change type(s) of music you find appealing in the long run. Trust me, that's a good thing. Decent value, new pricing. Great value, used pricing.
Weakness:
Not the best speaker on the face of the earth, but I rent a studio apt so what do I know? After buying an a pair of bp10s, used from a local guy, I got these bp20s used from a private seller in Florida. Now bp20s are the front channels of my surround system, with bp10s for back channels. All the fine qualities of the bp10s are duplicated by the bp20s, only more so. bass projection is just that much better, although the really nice thing about these speakers is that the mid and high frequencies are so clear, accurate and sweet, with the bass kicking in just when it really should, not otherwise. Clear zing from the tweeters gilds the all-important solidity and presence of the mid-ranges. Instruments and voices are really there, hanging right in space. You forget that the tall columns are putting out the sound. whether for classical/jazz or for movie soundtracks, nothing gets lost in muddled boom or wall-shaking bash that is more distortion than music or sound. I must emphasize how nice it is to just get involved in the music or movie soundtrack, with loads of presence just wafting about in the air, and forget that it's all coming out of a system with boxes, speakers, wires, electrical components, etc. The better stuff just disappears, and that is all good. Strength:
Dynamic as far as HT goes!
Weakness:
A little power hungry One of the best speakers for HT.But I wouldn't go as far to say music. There are too many musical speakers in this price range to say that. With a high power amp these are hard to beat. They will give you that true theater sound! Strength:
Awesome all-round sound, deep bass, sleek understated looks (even girls that visit like them!), huge power capacity.
Weakness:
Black piano gloss finish has a tendency to attract peoples hands who don't know how to appreciate a good thing (ARRRGH THOSE FINGERPRINTS!), bottom hookups can be awkard, it would be nice they it were on the lower back. What's there to be said that hasen't been said about these great gems? I bought the BP20's new back in '95 and they sound and look as great as ever. I still can't find anything in this price range that even comes close to sounding as good. The midrange is surprisingly smooth, clear highs, and deep, tight bass you can really feel when these suckers are cranked. I must add that they sound amazingly accurate at very high volume levels. They are a perfect match to my Sunfire (original) amp. They handle 500 each, which is hard to match by the competition. The only upgrade from here is the BP30's I'm not sure they are really much different. In my opinion, only Martin Logans sound clearer and more open.
