Just phenomenal. I cannot say enough about these speakers. The sound is just terrific, with great range and depth. The powered sub-woofers add a lot of oomph, and I really feel like I'm missing out on nothing. The radio sounds pretty damm good, and cd's and dvd's are just fantastic. It really feels like you're listening to live music. When I was shopping, I listened to numerous speakers ranging up to twice as expensive as the def techs, and none even compared. Seriously. It was the easiest purchase decision I ever had to make, and I haven't regretted it for one second.

Strength:

soundstage is very plain huge Bipolar sound can play damn loud without distortion VERY VERY PUNchy sound

Weakness:

well,.. maybe some low details of low bass subsonic levels..

Summary: When comparing these BP2006TL speakers you should immediately seperate them into their strengths strong at HT! ! Ultimate for The home theatre. Awesome. I've heard many speakers with all sorts of setups in my time, but hands down...no questions asked, these make the best home theatre speakers I've ever heard. The soundstage is very plain huge. The only trick is that you have to be a little careful with the Bass. these speakers have so much Bass, that normally you'll only have it in the 10:00 to 11:00 position...anymore is just overwhelming. Put a couple of 2002, or BPX's in the rear and a CLR3000 or CLR2300 center and you'll never miss your local theatre again. Aside from bass, these speakers are phenominal. I was most amazed, when I played the Riven soundtrack on them. They were only placed 7 or 8 ft. apart, but the soundstage sounded like I was in an open field. TRULY amazing. It wasn't just me either, or my experience with definitive's speakers' "bi-polarness". My friend was with me and his jaw literally dropped. Second dvd regien of FIRE , The Huge DRagons appearing scene can really show how these speakers's soundstage is ! we r very impressed by the soundstage machaim like the dragons chionging at us. After listening to them using movies and music this is what I noticed. I found the sound stage to be very large and very detailed for two 4 1/2s and two 1" tweeters. The base was very punchy and tight. The sound was very smooth and uniform, Sure they might be expensive, but these speakers are worth it. If you spent money on other speakers with seperate subs, you have to worry about crossovers and matching. also, you won't be able to get two 8", 250 watt subs. The only thing I can think of as being worth the price is a Velodyne HGS-18 (3000 watts, baby! and it has that noise cancellation chip inside it (if you haven't heard, that chip with the "tap test", prepare to be amazed)) with a pair of BP 30s. Another sub is the SVS sub which is a favourite among americans. WELL sad to say their subs is Fantastic for HT , low , low but......... very bulky . If you haven't heard DT these speakers yet, LISTEN TO THEM. don't judge them by their power rating or other reviews. Listen to them yourself. You won't be sorry

Strength:

Affordable price for speakers with 250W subs built in. Full Def Tech package including centers and rears have perfectly matched tonal quality's Can play EXTREMELY loud without distortion

Weakness:

Both front and center speakers need to be near plug because of built in Subs. Not many dealers sell Def Tech - Many don't like to discount them -- I went to 6th Ave electronics and they offered me a good deal -- then went to a high end audio store and they reluctantly matched -hated to do that but I have needed the expertise of the high end store with setup of DVD and widescreen

In one word WOW! I was in the store and the salesman put on Lord of the Rings and let it crank -- By the end of the scene, half the store was standing there in amazement. It would have been difficult for me to Not buy this system. I listened to a lot of speakers from B&W(twice the price), M&K, Tannoy, Bose and Paradigm before choosing these Def Tech's. I'm not a audiophile by any stretch -- I hate walking into high end places where the salesman tell me what they hear (the emprorers clothes theory). I know what I like, though. Musically, I thought the Paradigm Monitor 9's may have been a little better, but with HT - it wasn't even close. I started to really appreciate some of the great classics in my CD collection such as Eric Clapton- Unplugged (I never knew there was so much bass in that CD before), Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here and Steely Dan. I used Sade- Love Deluxe- track 9 as my demo in the store and not only can you see placement of the instruments on stage, but her voice just jumps out at you mid way through the song. Awesome! I bought a whole new system for my basement. While the basement was being built, I teamed the Def Tech's 2006TL and the CLR2300 center with my existing system (15 year old Kenwood seperates 100Wx2 with a Yamaha DSP for regular old DPL and a powerful M&K subwoofer and modest Infinity Reference EL speakers for rear) and what a difference in music and movies. Although most sales people tried to get me to purchase a sub as part of the system, I played music and movies with my existing M&K sub on and off and decided it added very little to the 2006TL's. Therefore, I would not purchase a sub, just turn the knob on the back of the 2006's up a little more (for movies only) and you should be OK. Once the basement was completed, I hooked up the 2006TL, CLR2300, BP2X rears and UIW75 in ceiling (for 6.1 sound) to the new Denon 3803 (see separate review in receivers) to a 56" widescreen JVC TV and progressive scan DVD player and for a tick over $5K, I have a system that blows away any movie theater that I've ever been in (except the Ziegfeld in NYC where I saw Pink Floyd's The Wall). The clarity of the instruments and voices on music is great; special effects and subwoofer bass explosions on movies is also great, and the whole package works seamlessly together.

Strength:

Excellent Value. Performance is at the top of its price range.

Weakness:

None at this price.

The 2006TL speaker offers music enthusiasts and movie lovers a tremendous value in the highly competitive loudspeaker market. This versatility comes with very few compromises. Having exposed this speaker to a large variety of tunes and flicks, I have found it to be up for the task of pleasing my ears time after time. Stereo imaging is very good and the soundstage created by these speakers is so large and engulfing that you feel that you are part of whatever you are listening to. The only speaker that might outperform it in this area is from mirage (Mirage omnipolar speakers offer excellent response off axis as well as on axis). In addition to being a bipolar speakers (mid drivers and tweeters are housed in separate chambers and are in phase) The idea of including powered subwoofers is indeed a genius one as IT WILL save the space and cost of adding a separate subwoofer, unless you have a large room or hearing deficiencies in the sub cycles. The fact that EACH speaker has a powered subwoofer with a dedicated 250 Watt RMS Amp results in an even and very rich bass reproduction that I could not achieve with a single separate sub. On a last note concerning Low frequencies: These speakers have tight bass that is useful down to 32 Hz. This is sufficient for most movies and recordings. I find the mids to be very neutral and the highs are buttery smooth. Things might be slightly brighter with a different receiver. I’m using an Onkyo TX-SR600 receiver to drive these speakers this receiver is more on the warm side. I strongly recommend that you add these speakers to the top of your list if you’re looking to spend around US $1000 for a pair of speakers. Numbers aside, your ears will thank you!

Strength:

Huge sounds stage, great image, great bass! Possibley the best speaker setup for the price!

Weakness:

None I can think of.

I have listened a pretty many speakers over the past years and have read a lot of reviews on them as well. The time came to make a few changes in my home audio department. My speakers, Infinity SM 120's were just not cutting it any more. I find myself enjoying home theater more nowadays than booming music, which is something the Infinity SM's were great for. As many would say, they are a house party speaker. Anyway, decided to make some changes. The first change I made was a receiver upgrade. I bought Sony STR DE-725 back in 1999, which is a very nice entry level HT receiver. I was very happy with it to say the least. Being a Sony fan, I knew of the ES (high end) line of receivers they made as well. To keep my story short, I ended up buying a STR-DA2ES from the 2002 line up. If you can compare an entry level Sony receiver to a Sony ES receive side by side. You will find a much sharper, bigger sound from the ES line! It's worth the extra money spent if you ask me. Not to forget more options as well. (like LFE cut off for each speaker, great option to have with a LCR 2300 center channel) The receiver upgrade alone made my good old Infinity speakers sound better as well. After listing to a few speakers (ie Paradigm, Infinity, Polk, speakers in my budget) and reading reports on the internet about the BP2006TL's. I had to listen to them! I drove 1 1/2 away to Gramophone in Timonium, MD. Walked in with my heart beating very fast with couple CD's and a DVD (JPark III). Put the DVD in and listened... the sound was very good although lacking a bit I thought. I did notice a much bigger sound stage and image though. The reason the sound was not as good as it was could have been. The speakers were out in the show room running with a smaller center channel (and not the LCR 2300) vs being in a closed room with all items in place. They were very close to the walls between a huge ET center as well. I knew the speakers would sound much better in my HT room. As the room is one of the most important factors in a HT setup. Going on and on I know.... ;) I took a pair of BP2006TL's and a LCR 2300 home. (money back in 7 days if I wasn't happy) Before even tweaking the speaker positions and receiver. I could notice a huge, huge, difference in sound! After many hours of listening to CD's and many DVD's I have come to what I feel the best set up for my system. Let me tell you!!! These speakers and unreal! Huge sound stage, very sharp accurate sound and great low bass! I have to say the bass from the 2006's 8" subs made the 12" in my Infinity's look bad. Might be a touch softer in the way of impact although they go much loooowerr in the db's! Then again the Infinity SM's have overwhelming bass, to much compared to most speakers. Not to forget, the LCR 2300 is a killer center channel speaker! Huge sound, rock solid bass and incredible voice. (big though) My setup: Receiver - Sony STR-DA2ES DVD - Sony DVP-S300 TV - Sony 27" WAGA Speaker / Bass setup: Front LR - Small w/80Hz low cut off, running both Monster cable speaker wire and sub-woofer cable off a Y. Center - Small w/40Hz low cut off - let's take advantage of the nice 8" in the 2300, Monster speaker cable only Surround - Small w/80Hz low cut off Subwoofer - Yes with 80Hz high cut

Strength:

-Small footprint, HUGE SOUND!!! -Could possibly be the best speaker in this price range! (around 1k) -Customer service is excellent!!

Weakness:

-Initial setup can be tricky...

While I dont consider myself an Audiophile since I dont have and cant afford a 50k+ system, I do consider myself knowledgeable about good sound and audiophile quality products....that being said... These are quite possibly the best speakers you can buy under/around 1000 dollars! When matched with the 'perfect timbre' clr2300 center and 'perfect' BP6B towers, this system will not only rock your world, but put you right into the action!! I've had several friends come over that are big Circuit City shoppers and own 'bigger' Polk systems and Bose lifestyle/accoustish!t that cost as much as my setup, but they are immediatly humbled and bow down to these speakers! Their size will not only fool you into thinking you've got MUCH bigger speakers than you do, but will fool any person that listens to them! If you have a great amplifier driving these speakers (I dont, yet), then they will really come to life! I've heard this setup through a Marantz THX receiver and its a big step up!! Dont let this discourage you though, if you a middle road receiver (ie Sony, H/k, Onkyo, etc...) these will still sound great! Im just putting this in here because the speakers can sound even better with 'better' components! Also, if you dont have room for rear towers, the BPX, BP2X, or BP1.2X will fit right in nicely!! If I had to say one bad thing about these speakers, it would be the initial setup. If you dont have your amp/receiver set right, the speakers will have noticable 'gaps' from the mid to sub frequencies. This just takes time to get adjusted properly and isnt a downfall to say the least. If you have a HT setup DVD, then this wont be an issue really... Although the bass is more than enough for 95% of people (given room size of course), Im looking at adding that extra 'punch' with DT's new Supercube I or II. After I audition one of these in the system, I'll report back whether I keep it or not. Like I said, the sub/bass the towers offer are probably more than enough for most people if you have a small to medium sized HT room. My HT room is 17x14 and my 'main component' setup is: -2 BP2006TL -1 CLR2300 -2 BP6B -Sony str-de885 receiver -Sony DVD -Sony CD changer -Mitsubishi 50" Projection -Monster Power Conditioner HTS3500 -Monster THX cert speaker/sub cables -Lutron Remote Lighting

Strength:

Great all around sound for the price.

Weakness:

Some of the lows are missing and mid range could be a little brighter, but hardly noticeable. Not the best looking speaker.

I took the Def techs home for a week to audition them. They sounded fantastic, but my wife did not like the asthetics. I then tried the M & K 750s at home. No matter what I did to dial in the M & Ks, the Def Techs far surpassed the M & Ks ability to reproduce music. I switched back to the def techs and have been happy ever since. My wife is happy too. Wide soundstage, excellent bass, perfect timbre and tonal match, good stereo imaging.

Weakness:

Had to wait four months for delivery of BP2Xs.

Here's some info to add to my review below. Having used the BP2006TLs and CLR2300 for 4 months I never cease to be impress by the excellent music and HT sound produced by these speakers. As for the BP2Xs, I finally got them last week after waiting for 114 days !!!

Strength:

Wide soundstage and extended bass.

Weakness:

No screws supplied with stabiliser bars. Long delivery times for certain Def Tech export models.

Purchased these speakers with the CLR2300 two months ago. They do sound very good with movies and music. Being bipolar they produced an incredible wide soundstage with minimal distortion. Built in powered subs in the BP2006TLs and the CLR2300 extended the bass to below 20 Hz - no need for a dedicated sub. I can't wait to match these speakers with the BP2X bipolar surrounds which are on back order since Jun 3.

Strength:

Even tonal coverage, solidity of sound field, small size and weight, excellent value for money.

Weakness:

Very lowest bass missing, midrange and high clarity less than the very best available (but excellent for the price range).

I''ve been looking around casually for quite a while to find replacements for my VMPS Tower II Special Editions. I like the sound of these speakers, but they are large, heavy, visually dominating, and hard to move around. I wanted something smaller, lighter, and easy to move. Right now I listen just to 2-channel stereo, but someday (not today) I may want to go the full 5.1 route (again for music only; I have little interest in movies). So I wanted something that fit into a 5.1 system. I started with Paradigm. The Paradigm dealer here only has the 20''s, which need stands, which I didn''t want. The 20''s sounded quite good to me, though bass shy (especially compared with the two 12" woofers per side of the VMPSs). I finally heard the 60''s in LA, but was disappointed; bass wasn''t much better, and the sound seemed less detailed (different room though, so this observation isn''t worth much). I asked that dealer what other speakers he had in that price range, and he showed me the Def Techs. I was impressed! (I was using the Telarc Firebird for the demo disk; Telarc has a set of "listening notes" where they tell you exactly what to listen for on this disc, minute by minute. Very useful.) I forgot about speakers after this for a while, but a month ago I wandered into the Def Tech dealer here in town and again auditioned the BP2006TL. Again I was impressed. So I bought them. That was about three weeks ago. I like them even better at home. The sound field has a solidity that I like: you can stand up, move around, and the sound doesn''t change much. To me this makes the illusion of live music more realistic. The tonal quality is excellent, midrange is clear and detailed. You don''t get the pinpoint imaging you hear with some speakers, but I never hear that with live music anyway. The bipolar sound is, on the whole, less "different" than I imagined it would be. The Def Techs miss the very low end; in my 14x24 (approximately) living room, they are good to 35 Hz (via Radio Shack sound level meter and 1/3 octive band-limited pink noise), but roll off sharply below that. This is almost never musically relevant. And, they are small and light (~45 lbs each) enough that I easily experiment with positioning. I have listened to a *lot* of speakers over the years; I''ve been to three of Stereophile''s Hi
