Strength:

True full range speaker.
Revealing of the source and electronics

Weakness:

Size

Previous reviewers complaining about mechanical sound
and lack of low bass are suffering from the fact
that the SC-V are extremely revealing of the source
and electronics.

I have experimented a lot with cables and electronics
and have found major differences.

For example, in my case, ultra low bass was elusive
until I changed interconnects and DACs.
The Dunlavy's are quite capable, but they don't "warm up"
the sound or add "punch".

All tests I've done with the Nautilus line have failed
to produce the same openness and effortless sound
that the Dunlavy's have.

Its not black magic, it makes sense, but you have to try different combinations.

Its hard to give $10k + speakers 5 stars for value, but when you realize there are $75k+ monsters out there,
the SC-V is a Giant, Giant killer.

I do not own a pair of these great speakers yet!, however I have auditioned them and know what great sound they can make, they are incredible speakers. I heard them with BAT series 60 tube amp, 5vi preamp, their phono pre-amp and VPI Aries turntable with JWM tonearm and MicroBenz Glider cartridge.
I have never heard such incredible detail and imaging from records as I heard on this system. The dynamic range was awesome from the lowest lows to the highest highs. I didn't realize how good music could sound on such a system and the detail that records have contained in those grooves. This truely was a listening experience for me and I highly recommend them.

The Dunlavy SC-V is a great product. Their ability to separate instruments in the soundstage of a complicated mix is outstanding. The bass response, in accuracy and depth, is fantastic. There is neither port nor passive radiator clouding of sharp, dynamic bass stokes. The treble is crystal clear, extended but not fatiguing. The only thing I can think against them is their size- they won't suit every room- and their weight. I think I tore several muscles helping lift them up our stairs. I cannot imagine anyone not liking the sound of these speakers.

Dunlavy produces the most accurate and musical speakers bar none! This is not just opinion, for I have no allegiance to any particular manufacturer; this is Fact. I put together a reference system to get me as close to the "Live" event as possible in my home..at any cost. The SC-V speakers will convey whatever the rest of the system gives them..pick musical gear and you will be transported! For a larger room choose the SC-VI's. Not Wilson, Genesis, JML or any other companies speakers bring a listener closer to natural music.

The only thing I have to say about the SC-V is you had better be prepared to turn your listening room into an anechoic chamber!!!!!!!! Otherwise they are hideous.

Strength:

Imaging, clarity at all volume levels, dynamic range, bass

Weakness:

Size of speaker

These are the best speakers one can buy other than possibly the SC-VI's which I have never had the opportunity to hear.
I had the SC-IV non-A prior to the V's and the V's actually disappear better, sonically not visually and the V's have that in your chest bass impact that few speakers can match.
If one takes the time to read the manual and set them properly, ie. further from each other than the listener and along the long wall they will know your socks off. I have the luxury of both ETF and a spectrum analyzer which I used to obtain the optimum set up in my listening room. I have Auralex 4" foam behind my listening chair, this is a product that will make any speaker sound better unless you are using nearfield monitors. I have listened to everything from Grand Slams to the budget miracle boxes, you know the tiny magical speakers with big sound and nothing comes close to the V's.

Couldn't agree more with Stephen. I auditioned these beasts in Chicago. Definately for the 'bigger is better' crowd. Cold soung, too big (these are sure to ruin the looks of any room!) and overpriced. These are for the crowd that spends big bucks on eqipment, and little on music (I bet most of these guys own less than 300 pieces of music).

Anyone who thinks that these speakers sound like live music obviously do not leave thier homes to LISTEN to LIVE MUSIC.

Strength:

excellent highs and mids

Weakness:

cold, machanical sound; Sounds like a gynasium speaker; size; low range bass

Firstly, these monsters will destroy the aesthetics of your home. The sound is cold and mechanical-no 'warmth' at all- and were is the very low range bass??? I lived with these horrendous monsters for a month before shipping them back. i purchased a pair of B&W CDM-9NT's for about half the price. A major improvement. The SC-V is what I would term a ‘mid-life crises’ speaker for those with too much money and too little true appreciation for music. The claims that these 'sound like live music' simply are not true-just listen and see!

Strength:

You can bore all of your friends over and over again by telling them how much you paid for these speakers and how GREAT they sound, over and over and over again

Weakness:

paying for them, and living with 2 x 7 feet of over priced clutter

Sure these sound good, but $12,000 worth of good??? I exchanged these for the nautilas 802's with sound EVERY BIT as good for half the price.

Strength:

Great midrange, great low bass, Life-like treble, great sound stage, great sound satge depth-In summary life-like music. Gorgeouslooking- to my eyes

Weakness:

Size, soundstage width depends on the distance between speakers.

I don't know what the following two reviewers are talking about. The sound is very dynamic, life-like, open and transperant with all kinds of music. I wonder they use the right kind of elecronics with these speakers! Grate palpable sound. In a word, the ultimate speaker.
