I received these speakers as a gift from a friend, and unlike most other people here, I love them. I have to believe that everybody buying speakers from people on the street just haven't figured out some of life's little lessons yet. WHY would you buy speakers from a stranger on the street?! There are obviously a lot of stupid people still running around I guess. These speakers, (the ones I have), kick ass pretty good! I have used them with different amps and in different settings and I have cranked them up as loud as they will take it. (pretty loud) No problems at all. It's quite obvious that there are some FAKES out there......apparently LOTS OF FAKES with LOTS of STUPID PEOPLE BUYING THE FAKES. They are no match for my 901's, but they thump pretty hard. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the guys in the white dynalab van, hahahhaha!!! Then I'll roll 'em up and call the cops on the theives for you idiots that buy speakers from people on the street. |

I had these speakers for over two years, and I'm not going to to you, at first listen they sound pretty decent. I bought them from a guy online for $40 for the pair. After doing a little research, I found their little nick name, amp killers. That's right, scams and rip offs aside these speakers can actually damage the equipment you have them attached to. Most receivers function in the eight ohm range, some can be switched to six and some, (like the older one I had mine originally hooked up to) can go lower, around four ohms. These speakers are labeled at eight ohms, but don't let them fool you. any speaker will fluctuate around the labeled ohm rating, dipping a little lower or higher, which is not an issue. However, the Dynalab SDA 2.8 speakers can dip down into the two ohm range. For those of you who are completely lost, thats like trying to push a gallon of fluid through a straw very rapidly. The speakers will handle the power (even though they ARE made of cheap parts), no one can deny that, but your amplifier will not handle this power spike. Unfortunately, the victims of these scams see the ohm rating and unknowingly put their receivers in danger. With all the reviews I have read stating the model of their high end receivers I cringe at the thought of these "amp killers" taking another victim. If you do not believe me, do a little research for yourself. Do yourself and your amp a favor, and look for another set of towers. I would recommend looking into Yamaha's lines if you like high power clarity, but make sure your receiver can function on six ohms (its a little quirk of Yamaha's) . |

I reviewed these for a friend - they sound like those cheap bass boxes you get from off brand car audio shops, but with a couple of tweeters tacked on. They don't even have soundproofing in the cabinet to help with the bass, making it mushy and awful.

I got stopped by the dudes in a white van claiming they had CLUB speakers that they ordered to much of, told me how great they were and regular price of 1200, mine for $800. I wanted speakers for my new home kenwood receiver high end in 1998. So, I offered them $300.00. they took it acting like I stiffed them.

I bought those speakers from a pawn shop for exactly $22 in Chicago! I got a great deal! I really liked the speakers! I used them for a month and something but than I found out they are the white van scum! The speakers are not bad and they look very nice! They sound good just not enough bass! I sold them after I found out they are the white van because I like to have only good brands! Otherwise nice speakers! |

Found these in a small resell store. One was marked 15$ and the other had no price. So I asked the guy up front if it was 15$ for the pair or each. He says the guy who owns the booth owes him rent, I can have both for 15$. I have super high end audio equipment and a small recording studio. I hooked up a top of the line Marantz for my video viewing and was pleasantly surprised. Good, clean sound for watching concerts. Nice seperation of the sonic spectrum. I haven't driven them to the max, but that is not what I got them for. I have an old Sansui G8000 and 4 Bose 901's for my music, so I know good sound.

Strength:
For $600 a pair, not bad. Good clarity of stringed instruments. Try listening to the 'Eagles' concert DVD, Hotel California, in DTS, with a good amp, surround and active sub speakers. Really good stuff. Or watch 'Master and Commander' in DTS with the opening battle scene!. I appreciate them a lot better now whilst trying to help my friend spend $2000 on a complete surround sound system.
Weakness:
You need a more powerful AMP. At least 75 Watts per channel. Also combine it with a good quality active sub woofer as it lacks good quality tight bass that only $2000 plus speakers can deliver. I never knew this site existed until today. I've been helping a friend to buy a proper sound system from a reputable dealer. I got curious about my speakers and hence I stumbled onto this site!. Yep, same deal, back in 1999, on a Friday after finishing work, the white 'Dynalab' van stops along side of me at the lights. Two guys talk to me about buying speakers which they have received quantity than what they had paid for and wanted to sell them cheap. Me and my friend in the car at the time were interested and we pulled over in a side street. Looked like a drug deal!. Anyway showed me the magazine, retailing about $2000 a pair. They wanted $1000. All I had was $600 in my account and they accepted it and followed me to an ATM. I got home and hooked it up to my old 2 channel amp with 25Watts per channel and they sounded crap. When driven loud, the tweeters sounded like they were going to burst as well as my ear drum. Had no bass. But I kept them. In 2003, I bought a Marantz amp, SR5000, 75Watts per channel of listening power, not max power and some cheap brands advertise. When I hooked it up to the speakers, all of a sudden they became a whole better and I became a happy man. Eventually I bought 'Energy' speakers for the active sub, centre and small ones for the rear. It's excellent for movies or DTS music dvd's. About average for listening to CD's. Works a lot better with an active sub when listening to a CD in stereo only using the Dynalab speakers. If I had the money, I would probably like to buy a pair of decent tower speakers which usually cost around $2000 a pair. But realistically, I don't and won't have the money. These will do just fine and have been for the last 9 years. Customer Service Nil Similar Products Used: For $600, not much. Perhaps 'Klipsch'. If you can afford to spend more, try listening to 'Energy' brand speakers. They are made in Canada. Not China like most well known brands of today, eg, B&W. And they sound awesome. There is a 'Energy' specialist in Wollongong, NSW, Australia. |

Strength:
For 350 USD - you get what you pay for. Last time I do something like that. However, they did do the job for 8 years. So am I upset? No. But if you want to make some heavy duty noise on the cheap; you can't beat these black boxes.
Weakness:
Voice and dialog is weak. Paid 350 USD for the SDA 2.8 pair. Produces good sound - but is a power hog. You need a strong amp ~100 watts minimum to get real with this package. But strains under load. In other words, it has a narrow sweet spot. If you drive them higher you risk damage. Drive them too low and you get a muffed up - collided sound. Voice and dialog is weak, so you need a center speaker in addition to these speakers. The "white van" method of direct marketing does not lend itself to reputable organization. In the end, after 8 years of use, I put them back in the original box with hopes of selling them to a local collage frat house. When I bought them I needed some speakers and had little cash. Now I have much cash and need better speakers. Customer Service When I first got the SDA 2.8's I Emailed their tech support. Got a prompt response. Now in July 2008 they are nowhere to be found. Similar Products Used: Bose, Klipsch. Go for the Klipsch if you are going to pluck down some serious cash. You will be much happier. |

Strength:
Always sounded good despite being supposedly made of rubbish.
Weakness:
Scam! Now that I know, I can't enjoy them anymore the way I've done before. What a laugh. I've been trying to find infos on these speakers for ages and today thought I might have another go having moved with these speakers thrice in the past 6 years. When I read the story of how the con works, I was stunned...absolutely the same how I was scammed. Even the wording seems to be the same. After feeling cheated, I really had to laugh out loud. Ok, the money's gone, but after reading the reviews here I felt it wasn't worth spending another thought on it.
Customer Service The guy who sold me these said there was a two-year warranty...hahahaha
