clarity in mid high, strong deep subbass

i am building my own home theatre speakers but meanwhile i wanted some cheap speakers before i finish building. so i bought the hollywoods, 5 speakers: 3 system floostanding, center, 2 system surround. i never expected something good, but hey... these are really good. since i don't yet have an a/v reciever, i connected them to my reVox stereo amp and the result was amazing. regarding the price (150$ 5 pieces new from a shop). ok, what's the catch!? they look good but when you look close... the wood imitation is badly made. somewhere there are air bubles under it. from curiosity i opened all the speakers... there is no filing, rear speakers do not have a crossover!? but somehow they still sound good enough with that tiny lack of midass section from the main speakers.
