Strength:

clear treble, sounds very detailistic, nice looks

Weakness:

bass is too short, sounds like you hear it from an other room. Flat sound in some bass tracks

I've used the eltax 8.2 for three days. In the beginning i was very enthousiast about the sound, but after better listening i discovered even more "bad habits". Like the bass which is in some tracks very good,(like aphrodite > full bass) but in other tracks it seems the bass won't let itself "go". I mean i didn't feel a warm bass filling the room.
Other thing i wan't to say is that when voices come up in a track, the midrange and bass seems to be more at the background.
Classical sounds like enigma sounds very good. So i guess this speaker is worth the price for people who like music with an easy bass and lots of treble tones.

Conlusion: good speaker for the price, but the speaker is "too young" to be comperenced with big brands like tannoy & b&w. The eltax has too many "childweaknesses". So i say to the producers of eltax: You're going the good way but the speakers has to grow up.

Strength:

sparkling treble, accompanied by very powerful bass. The cabinet is well made and attractive. Biwirable. Three drivers.

Weakness:

midrange can be a little under-substantial, but the musical ends are sooo gorgeous, this really doesn't matter that much.

Of the three floor-standers i've heard in this price bracket, the Eltaxes come off best. They take a few weeks to play in, but once fully warmed up, they are unbeatable. I've bot them set up with NAD C320 amp and C520 Cd player, and altogether it's a very enjoyable sound, and never sounds harsh - even near full volume the sound is extremely cohesive and smooth-sounding (and very very loud.) I got the whole package (speakers+amp+CD) from Richer Sounds for £400, whilst it should cost nearly £700: An absolute bargain - and a sound to match... Get them!!!

Strength:

Exceptional ability to render treble, mid-range and (sometimes boomy) bass at an affordable price. Decent build quality too!

Weakness:

The bass can become too over-powerful on particularly meaty dance tracks or metal tunes.

When compared to both the Mission and the Tannoys, the Eltax Symphony 8.2. represent an excellent choice. The Mission are bi-wireable, but with only a single driver don't handle crossover well enough. Plus the treble can become too undisciplined.

The Tannoys were better than the Mission, but should be at the price. The Eltax beat the Mission, could compete with the Tannoys (and I do mean compete) at a great price.

My Eltax speakers are partnered to an Arcam 9 amp and Arcam 7SE CD with QED Silver Anniversary bi-wire speaker cable, the sound oozes energy when needed, but can also be incredibly tuneful on the classics such as Mahler and Rachmaninov.
