Great bass with the 2 8'' side firing subs. Soundstage is amazing. Sounds good on carpeted floors with the spikes on bottom. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who believes in (classic) products.

Great sounding speakers. Very smooth midrange and treble, strong bass. Soundstage is very wide and deep. I've already spent a few weekends digging out old cds to see how they sound on these. Just purchased the powered sub version (APS 5+2), so these will be heading to the rear. If you are fortunate enough to be able to find a pair of these I would highly recommend them.

These are really great bipolar speakers. I think its soundstage is quite comparable to Definitive BP2002, but at a much cheaper price. It uses one of the best tweeters available. The only thing that possibly makes it cheaper than BPs is that they do not have internal amp to power its dual 8' side-firing subwoofers. But to tell you the truth, unless you are a bass maniac, the A5+2 punch out more than enough bass than you ever need due to its high sensitivity. I think it has one of the best values for $1000 range speakers.

I love these speakers. I first had a Sony receiver, but just upgraded to the Denon 3801 and I love the speakers even more. Sound is very crisp and clear.

Having reviewed many speakers ( Polk RT20, NHT 2.5i, Mission 734 etc) I finally chose the Energy 5+2. I now have them home and am really enjoying the sound (Old system was abased on Bose 301), but need to upgrade my amp to really explore what this speaker can do. They are currently attached to an old Yamaha A520 (85W rms) integrated. The CD player is a new ARCAM MCD 6 stacker.
Any ideas here are welcome, it's hard to come by good advice in outback Australia.

I guess I wont know if they are a 5 until I amp them properly.

Sound comes from all over with the proper setup.

Recommended. I love these speakers. Energy produces quality, Canadian made speakers. They are a little pricey for the first time buyer who only wants to spend 3-4 G's on their entire system, but once you listen to them you will be hooked.

I had an opportunity to review a pair of APS 5+2's at a local shop and was immediately impressed by its virtues. What struck me the most, is how refined these are compared to most other bipolars out there, primarily the Def Techs. The lows are pronounced yet controlled, mids are clear and natural, and the highs are smooth without being bright and grainy. They cast a large soundfield, as is typical with bipolars, yet they image pretty well. Another important consideration; these speakers are efficient at 93db, so they can be easily driven by a tube amp. The only downside is price: $2500 list/pair. If you can find a used/demo pair, I highly recommend these.

The Energy Audissey's were replacements for my old NHT 2.5's. The NHT's were extremely neutral and excelled at imaging, but two things caused me to search for a replacement: limited dynamics, especially on large orchestral and choral works (like Verdi's Requiem or Mahler's 5th), and boomy bass, at least in my particular listening room. (If I had a larger listening room, I would have more seriously considered the NHT 2.9 as an upgrade for the 2.5.)

The APS 5+2's have very clean, powerful and extended bass. What makes them gems are the built-in bass contour and eqalization controls. Now I have clean, tight and extended bass--to 20 hz--without boominess. As bipolars, they strike a nice balance between spaciousness and accurate imaging. They sound equally good with small jazz quartets and large symphonies. Midrange is particularly clean and smooth--better than the NHT's--with exquisite rendition of voices. Highs have a little sibilance, but I haven't figured out whether this is due to my relatively bright room or my aging Carver amp (due for an upgrade to a Bryston 4B ST or Lightstar 2.0). Some more experimentation will tell. And these speakers will play very loudly without strain and distortion. I can listen to Mahler or Stravinsky at lease-breaking levels and not worry about overloading these speakers. Just wish I had a bigger listening room to let these speakers show their stuff. Lastly, the price is right. They are $500 cheaper than their sister speakers, the Mirage OM-6's, sound just as refined, and, I think, have more of that sonic "jump factor."

Since I last posted this review, I've made the following upgrades to my system:
Bryston 4B ST amp
MSB Link DAC (added to Marantz CD 67 SE)
Audioquest Ruby interconnects
Sonex sound panel room treatments

Overall, the above have improved the sound significantly with smoother highs, better upper-mids, even more freedom from compression and a deeper, wider soundstage. I attribute most of the improvement to the Bryston amp and the MSB Link DAC. I'm sure a larger room would improve the sound even more.

Got a great deal on these 900.00 the sound is terrific, I use them specifcally for DVD with the sony dvp-s7000 and the sony ep9es only problem I am using a 12 year old nad amp and pre-amp for power.Nothing against nad these have been great products just under powered for these babys...
can't wait to buy a 5 channel amp any suggestions!
