Strength:

Outstanding soundstage and imaging, good bass response, small footprint

Weakness:

Placement limitations

Not very often it happens that you come across a value so outrageous, it seems to good to be true. I beleive this speaker is cause for one of those moments. Never before have I heard such an outstanding sound, with richness and depth of field, razor sharp imaging, and bass response that is quite impressive for a relatively small footprint. Before I continue, I should divulge the equipments used;
Source material was provided by a Denon DCM-460, connected to a Denon Pre-Amp with a pair of 1 meter 'Audioquest" Coral Interconnects. Amplification was done by two Parasound HCA-1500a's. Speaker wire was Monster Cable's Z2Reference in a biwire/biamp situation. Also in the stack was a Monster 'Clean Power' Line Conditioner; one MPHTS2000.
Even without a break-in period, these speakers amazed me at first listen. Excellent bass response was one thing that caught my attention. These speakers respond accurately down to approximately 40 hertz. Bass is tight, controlled, and does not even hint at muddiness. Midrange response is equally satisfying, with outstanding smoothness. Highs are accurate and smooth; clear, but not bright. I've listended to a variety of selections, from Andrea Bocelli to Sting; and Collective Soul to Billy Holiday. Of course these speakers caused the usual cliche' 'I'm hearing things in my recordings that I never knew were there!' On one recording, Sting's 1992 release "The Soul Cages", track one has guitar sounds appearing to come from outside the left speaker; that is, further to the left than the speaker itself. Imaging remains outstanding on all selections, other that those which were limited by the recording itself. Depth of field and soundstaging are equally incredible; the bipolar design can be thanked for that. The sound appears three dimensional, with sounds coming from behind others. All in all, a great speaker, and at an excellent value. This site lists pricing at 900 per pair, a price I would gladly pay for these speakers, however I was able to purchase them at a mere 750 dollars at the Good Guys. I would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone who is interested in outstanding sound quality at a very affordable price. As a side note, going from standard monster cable to the Z2 Reference made a marked diference in sound, and I would Definitely recommend paying the additional amount on that cable.

Strength:

soundstage, tight bass

very impressive bass for 2 5.5" woofers. I am using them as surrounds in my ht system that includes the c-8's also from Energy. They blend seamlessly with the c-8's. For music application, they are pretty good. the c-8's have better clarity than the audessey's particularly the midrange. It still not a bad speaker. The performance my be due to my receiver (it's a yamaha but i didn't know any better back then)or the mit terminator cables i'm using. Listen to Some r&b and jazz on it, and you'll be impressed by the tight bass and smooth highs. Anyways its bi-polar design is great for my rears. Oh ya, my center is a psb c-6 and i think my ht is now complete. Cheers!

Strength:

Detailed Sound. Small Footprint. Price. Bi-Polar.

Weakness:

Bass is adequate for some music.....but not all.

These are great speakers. The Bi-polar design really does help the sound stage IMHO. I used these in my audio system for about 10 months before I bought a used set of MG10's. Initally I used them without a sub and was quite impressed. Very detailed sound......great quality considering the low price I paid for them. This sound would embarass other dynamic speakers consting many time more......including some Klipsch and B&W's I have listened to.

After I added a NHT SubOne and cut the low frequency at 75Hz the sound improved greatly.......personally I would add a sub to these speakers even if you don't listen to deep booming bass tracks.....but it's not entirely necessary.

The best thing about these speakers is the Bang/$$ ratio. They retailed for $900 or so but they can be found really cheap.

Strength:

GREAT Bass, Speakers fill my whole room (20 x 25) with sound. Very good with Acoustic Music.

Weakness:

Hard rock and punk music do not sound as clear as they should.

An all around great speaker for the money. The bass surprised me. They have a very warm sound. Great for home theater front speakers. I will make a second more in depth review when I have listened to them for a longer period of time.

Strength:

Soundstage. They do fill the room with sound.

Weakness:

Highs were too bright.

I auditioned everything I could under $1000 in town. Every speaker has character, and I am cautious to buy speakers without the chance to audition them. I directly compared these to the Phase Tech Teatro 7.5 ($650), and Veritas 2.1 ($1000). These were the the most harsh of the bunch. Even static was brought to my attention.
My theory was that I LOVE the detail heard in the Veritas line. I thought since these are supposed to use the same tweeter and they have more cabinet space that they may be an acceptable (cheaper) alternative. I just can't imagine listening to them for any extended period of time. These were the floor models and you would think they already had some break in. The Phase Tech were a much better floor stander in my opinion.

Great little speakers these are!(36"x7.5"x10.5") The Audissey series are bipolar like their sister brand Mirage. But there is a big difference. The rear drivers(5.5" woofer and 1" aluminum dome tweeter on front and back) operate at half volume(-3db) compared to the front drivers, thus the bipolar effect is much more subtle compared to speakers like Mirage or DefTech. Also due to their design I feel they image far better than other bipolars but still have that big spacious soundstage. Bipolars, like dipoles are very much a love 'em or hate 'em breed. Personally, I find soundstaging more important or life like, if you will, then pin point imaging. Having said that, these speakers image much better than any other bipolar I've heard. And they throw a huge 3D soundstage, especially if you bring them out about 3' from the rear wall. Biwiring is a must. Huge difference. These speakers are great with any type of music(I listen to rock, jazz and classical) or movie soundtracks, they take up very little floor space, and can be placed alot closer to walls than other bipoles or dipoles.
I am also continually suprised at the amount and quality of bass extension that 2 5.5" drivers can produce. I compared these speakers to Castle Severns, various B&W models, Mirage, Acoustic Energy, Mission and many others. For the money, I found these the most satisfying and enjoyable speakers. I find most British speakers overpriced compared to most Canadian brands. The B&W's I found incredibly over rated for the sound they produce. Heck, I don't know why anyone living in Canada would want to spend their hard earned money on over rated and over priced Brit imports. You can get far better value from manufactures such as Energy, Mirage, PSB or Paradigm. Oh yes, I used to be a long time Maggie owner, so that should give you an idea how impressed I was with these puppies. Check these out if you are looking for speakers in the CDN$1200-US$900 range. You might be as impressed as I was.
By the way I listen to the A2+2's hooked up to a Bryston B60, Marantz CD63SE(to be replaced when the SACD/DVD-Audio war ends(sigh) or if the Marantz croaks first), Audioquest Quartz and a double run of Indigo+.
