Strength:
Very Good Build Quality Excellent Sound Quality Strong Bass Response Attractive with or without the grills
Weakness:
Haven't found any that I can attribute to the speakers myself. I like music loud and all speakers will degrade as the sound gets louder for many reasons such as source recording, room accoustics, other components etc. I love these speakers! I paid in Canadian dollars. I am very pleased and would easily advise others to audition these speakers. I listen to a wide variety of music and hence really value speakers with true musicality and balance. I have driven these speakers listening to Tool, Bach, Our Lady Peace, Pink Floyd, Sting, Rush, Thievery Corporation etc. I primarily listen to fairly hard music so strong performance with such recordings was imperative. I find the sound quality and depth of the music very, very nice through the C-5s. Of course rock recordings played load get muddy as screaming guitar and pounding bass does tend to merge into a mass. I listen to my music quite loud and with rock at first I felt a little cheated as the sound can get messy. To really be sure of these speakers I have spent many hours playing a diverse range of music and recording quality. After really listening to these speakers driven loud and softly with well recorded albums like Tears For Fears - Sowing The Seeds of Love: Sting - Ten Summer's Tales: Toad The Wet Sprocket - Dulcinea: Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth: Thievery Corporations newest album and others I can say with confidence these speakers are very nice. Bear in mind I have also played a great deal of orchestral and choral music as well and the music remains very well portrayed. My system is decent, but by no means an expensive one. I have an old NAD 3240 integrated amplifier, which is very nice and a new NAD C521BEE CD player. I am currently bidding on a used NAD 2600A power amp that I think will really help bring the music out even more when coupled with the 3240 as a pre-amp. As others have said, you will need to spend more money to do better so give these speakers a very good listen before walking away. If possible make sure you can audition them in your own space to determine whether these speakers meet your needs. Good audio shops allow returns if you aren't pleased so make sure of the return policy before buying! Similar Products Used: Pioneer HPM 100 (very sweet) Mirage Mi Bookshelf (very sweet) |

Strength:
Great imaging/soundstage; tight, fast bass response
Weakness:
for the price, none I purchased these speakers for the mains in my Family Room Home Theater system, but I required speakers that could stand up to 2-channel audio as well. They do it all, and better than anything else in the price range. I evaluated many speakers over a wide price range (martin-logan, magnepan, KEF, Monitor Audio, Definitive Technology, sonus faber, mirage), and nothing came close to matching the overall performance of the C5s. Nice tight bass, great imaging/soundstage, crisp midrange and highs. Partnered with a mid-range Denon receiver (AVR-1082) and other Energy speakers for HT (CC2 center, C3s for surround, and S10.2 sub) most visitors are blown away by the sound of the speakers (at least until they hear the Rotel/DefTech combo in the basement). Strong construction Great sound / price ratio
Weakness:
None to date. Excellent Speakers for the $999 cdn I paid for them. Well worth the money and much more. These speakers are beautiful, they even sound better then the C7's which I also tested. The two 6.5 inch woofers provide much better bass over the three 5.5 inch woofers in the C7. You could go without a subwoofer with these if you wanted to, they have a really nice bass. Strength:
Warm detail. Smooth Highs. Bass that has punch. Basically what everyone has said here.
Weakness:
At this price, I won't complain. I had a set of C2's I enjoyed for all kinds of music, but especially for the warm vocals produced on them. As soon as I heard the new C-series were in retail I auditioned them. They produced the sound I remembered fondly, smooth vocals for male and female singers, deep fulfilling bass, and nice detail and imaging. I recently bought a Denon 2802 and almost went with their in store Mirage F..5's for a sweet deal. Something bothered me about the sound from these towers though, and I decided to check this site out. It reconfirmed what I thought, that they were too mellow with no punch. I went back and bought the Energy C5's I auditioned and haven't looked back since. They are so smooth for music and deep enough for movies till I will get a sub. My buddy just bought some C9's so I got a chance to hear what sacd will sound like through mine eventually. Dark Side of the Moon is too cool. I drool thinking about it still. Strength:
Bass punch, vocal articulation, open highs Composed and balanced character even at high volume Great for music or HT Beautiful build quality GREAT PRICE!!
Weakness:
None I purchased these speakers to be used in a dedicated 2-channel system (in a small room). I have yet to set up the system. I have temporarily installed the C-5s in my HT system as the front mains. These speakers really produce a great deal of bass punch (down to 30Hz) for a small tower (7 3/4"W x 15 1/2"D x 36"H). When I listen to music I have no need for my sub. The C-5s image very well producing a full soundstage. The highs are open and slightly laid-back. The midrange on these speakers rivals many speakers at twice its cost. Vocal articulation is spot on natural and clear for female or male voices. The C-5s have a very composed and balanced character. As the volume goes up, these speakers will party while maintaining their character. The C-5s will sound even better once I get them set up in a 2-channel system. I need to purchase the electronics. I am considering separates from NAD, B&K, and Rotel. Aesthetically, Energy did a wonderful job with the design and build quality on the Connoisseur line. These speakers look good with the grills on or off. If you are looking for quality, near full range floor standers, but are on a budget, the Energy Connoisseur C-5s should be at the top of your audition list. These speakers could easily be twice their cost. Similar Products Used: Vandersteen 1C (very good), Paradigm Studio 40 & 60, B&W DM602 & DM603, PSB Image 5T, Kef Q7, Polk RTi150 |

Strength:
smooth mids, detailed highs, and good clean bass. There isn't any distortion or harshness at high volume levels. They are very musical and great for HT as well. Very soothing and pleasing when listening to any type of music. Exceptional clarity and neutrality that is usually found in more expensive speakers.
Weakness:
None to date These are amazing speakers sound-wise and value-wise. They sold themselves the very first time I auditioned them (No need to listen to other brands or sales-pitch was necessary). They are very detailed with a warm sound that is pleasing to the ear at any volume level. Highs are clear and precise without any harshness or distortion. Lows are surprisingly deep for the size of the tower and just 2 6 1/2 in. drivers. But the most satisfying part of the sound came from the mids that distinguished and separated itself from similary priced speakers. It gave the overall balance and smooth-natural sound that many speakers lack it's price range. Aesthetically speaking, these are beautiful speakers with a modern look to it. It sports a all-silver baffle and driver front that comes in either a maple or black surrounding box finish. The C-5's are a tremendous value that sound just as good or even better that many speakers that cost an arm and a leg more. If you want high-end sound at an affordable price, look no further than the C-5's or actually any tower in the Connoisseur line. Similar Products Used: paradigm, def tech, mirage and klipsch |

None These speakers sound as good as speakers that sell for twice as much. Its unbelievale how much research energy has used from their much more expensive model on the conneiseur models, cudo's to Energy for making a wonderful product. I purchased these wonderful speakers at www.acoustisounddesign.comthe prices are absolutely fantastic and they back the manufacturer warranty it is incredible.
