Strength:

The bass is the only thing worth mentioning. Oh ya, and they are better than Vandersteen 2C's

Weakness:

Bloated bass response, no midrange to speak of. Not very good at all.

For the money, well don't spend it on the C8's. For a little more money you can get the Veritas 1.8's.
The Veritas 1.8 is a great speaker made by the same people (API).
It's hard to believe they can make a speaker that is so much better. Ya I know it costs more, but I've heard speakers that cost what the C8's cost and well you get the picture. The Veritas 1.8 gives nothing up except for the last octive in bass performance. Not much out there that can touch it for the money.
I would rate the Energy Veritas 1.8 a solid 4 stars in absolute terms.

Strength:

excelent bass extension wonderfull mids great value!!

Weakness:

non to speak of.

To all those who rate the c-8's a 1 must be sniffing glue!! These speakers are exceptional for the price. If you feel they need more bass, your a bass junky, if you feel they have no mids, you have no ears!! The c-8's are a great all around speaker! They will crank out rock and give you the subtelties of Bach. The beautiful cherry high gloss finish doesn't hurt either!! Well done Energy, you make Canada proud!

Strength:

Excellent bass extension
Full sound stage
Excellent imaging
Detailed mid's and high's
Has bi-amp/wire ability via nice binding posts
Beautiful Cabinet/gloss piano black

Weakness:

Can be too bright with the wrong amp
Requires a high current amp to really belt out the sound

My prior review was under the name bleached@home.com
This is a revise/update.

I felt it time to do a follow-up on my C-8's due to the fact that I've made several changes to my HT/Audio system, and it is quite a bit different than before, yet the C-8's are still a main feature.

First, I've changed from the Sony 30es to the Denon 3300. This change yielded an excellent improvement in the quality of the sound I am hearing out of the C-8's. First they are much less sharp sounding. The mids are more detailed, and the bass extension has greatly improved. These changes prompted me to make another purchase. I bought C-8's for the rear speakers as well. The Denon 3300 has 5 channel stereo, and when I play any CD I am in total awe now! With matching speakers at all 4 corners, and the AC300 center, I am in stereo heaven. The denon also has the power to push the C-8's where the Sony would seem to pale in comparison. Of course I'm comparing an 85wpc vs a 105wpc, and the Denon is a very quiet amp.

Well, since I've felt so successful with my changes, I've prompted myself for one more change. The Harman Kardon PA5800 amp will be here in a couple days. This way I will bi-amp my speakers to be able to push the "good" Denon bass extension to the woofers, and then the HK detail to the mid/tweeter. I'll experiment to get the best sound.

And...to round out the entire system here, the grand finale will by the arrival of my beautiful bouncing baby Infinity HPS1000 powered subwoofer (not too much of a baby). I'm hoping that my Homeowner Insurance premium won't go up due to the possibility of shaking the house to the ground. 1000 watts of mountain muscle. 15" downfiring woofer, with 2 15" passive radiators. This baby will give HT in my house a new meaning. (This will replace my e:xls12 sub)

Anyway, enough is enough. Thank you for reading this revised review, and I'd suggest that you run out and buy a set of C-8's before they are all gone. Energy has announced to all their distributors that they will no longer produce the conneseur line of speakers. The distributors are "begging" Energy to do "one more run" The distributors have even offered to buy warehousing to store that final run. Call Len Gerling @ A&B sound in Canada, or Try Mark @ audioshop in Canada. Lastly look at www.tatumelectronics.com, they also are giving pretty good deals on the Energy line of speakers.

Today was the day for me that I have listened to the best speakers ever, Energy C-8. These speakers are .......????? I can't find the right word to explain. What do you want from speakers? Bass, dynamic, clean sound, powerful sound??? This babies have all!!!! I am really amazed the way they sounded. I listened NHT 3.3 and 2.9, Klipsch KLF20 and KLF30, Definitive Technology Pro Tower 400, and some others like Boston Acoustics, B&W (sorry don't remember the models) Over all there was no speakers that could come even close these babies. NHT sounded the most natural though (3.3) However, for the type music I like Energy was the best. Definitive Technology 400 had some nice sound too (good bass) The money you pay for these will worth every penny! Tomorrow will be the day for me again because I will order them!!! 55 stars!

I've had my C8s now for a couple of months. The sound is incredible. I used them to help me master a music CD I've just finished composing. The C8s really showed up some holes in my production of Orchestral sounds. I've found them to be very responsive across the spectrum. After reading the reviews on this page I got them from A+B sound, c/o Len Gerling. Excellent service, great price. They arrived superbly packaged. Installed into my system without a problem.

Strength:

High end, midrange

Weakness:

None

Excellent staging, imaging. A true case of the speakers virtually "disappearing," where you hear a live performance more than a recording. The C-8s are an excellent example of price v. performance.

The C-8s employee Energy's Veritas tweeter, used in their top of the line speakers. The high-end is crystal clear, not bright; mid-range presence incredibly life-like, not brassy.

The alumuminum woofer and reflex driver, though only 8" each, deliver the response and solid "thump" of old-style 12" accoustic suspension speakers, but without boominess.

My previous speakers were 20-year-old accoustic suspension.
I never thought I'd find a bass-reflex design to deliver tight, non-mushy bass. The C-8s do this, with the added benefit of superior mid and high end clarity. All for a very affordable price.

Highly recommended.

I was ready to buy a pair of C-8's until I did a side- by- side comparison with a pair of Polk RT-12's. The Polk had a much cleaner and crisper treble, a smoother and more refined midrange(no chestiness) and a tighter less boomy bass. It had everything in the package. Not only that, the soundstage was huge! The price was also more then 300 dollars cheaper after a discount. I recommend hearing both of these speakers side by side to hear the dramatic differences.

I bought my pair of C8's from Sound Systems for $1275.00. They play fine but are a little soft sounding (needs more presence-oomph). I play them together with my Sony surround speakers (they are a little harsh) via a Aiwa AV receiver. Together they sound great! I am not sure how much improvement Bi-wiring would bring but I am going to try it when I locate suitable wires at a price worth the assumed small benefit. I wondered if I could wire them from the A and B sides of my receiver rather than both going to the (one) A side as shown in the diagram. I would then select both the A and B speakers on the front panel of my receiver. Any suggestions?
I placed these speakers 30 inches from each side of the TV and there is no detectable (magnetic) interference.
