Energy Speaker Systems CF-50 Floorstanding Speakers

Energy Speaker Systems CF-50 Floorstanding Speakers

DESCRIPTION

Audio for the Connoisseur: Energys CF-50 floorstanding loudspeaker. A single 1 tweeter and three 5.5 woofers combine to deliver 2.5-way audio with the flat, on-axis frequency response and low resonance for which Energy audio is known. While Convergent Source Module technology allows the tweeter and mid-range driver to operate as a single source for enhanced dispersion, Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology dramatically reduces distortion and improves fidelity.

  • Frequency Response: 39Hz - 20kHz
  • Impedance: 4 Ohms min./8 Ohms nominal
  • Tweeter: 1-inch (25.4mm) hyperbolic aluminum-dome
  • Inputs: Dual gold plated 5-way binding posts

Strength:

Good overall sound, they sound larger than a 5-1/2 inch speaker. Impressive bass for such small drivers. Handled a good beating pretty well. Have a clean Natural sound to them.

Weakness:

Plastic feet tend to break easily when moving speaker. Covers are flimsy & the pegs break off easy. Unfortunately for me, I bought mine used off of eBay & didn't realise until I got them that they weren't a perfectly matching pair. They were the same brand & same model speaker but one was an older cf-50 & one was a newer cf-50. There were subtle differences between them. The center post coming out of the center of the speakers were shorter on the older speaker than on the newer speaker. Logos were in different places on the boxes & covers. Older speaker logo was all silver while the newer one had colors in it. Center post in center of drivers one the older speaker looked more metal while the newer speaker appeared more plastic. They still sounded really good together though. I had them for about 7 months then the tweeter on the older speaker gave out so I just sold them to a guy who was willing to fix it.

Strength:

Paid 400$ a pair on boxing day. At this price it's hard to beat. Great power handling, dynamics, sounds natural. Great efficiency at 96dB.

Weakness:

A bit too big for small rooms. But you can put it against the wall since it's front ported. Cabinets are not the most braced, so a tap on the side reveal some resonance.

Strength:

Nicely detailed soundstage, high frequencies detailed but not harsh, tight low end.

Weakness:

Mids and lower mids may be slightly recessed, but the overall tonal presentation is still well-balanced and fairly neutral.

Strength:

Bought these used on Craigslist after finally giving up on finding another pair of Energy e:xl-25s to replace the pair I had to abandon in Honolulu during my move back to the mainland. To my ear, they're perhaps a tad recessed in the 1K-ish mids compared to the aforementioned 25s, and I'm not sure if the sound staging is quite a detailed. But there's an unmistakable aural family resemblance that's quite pleasing. For the price paid I'm quite happy.

Hi,
I have owned theese floorstanders for more than a year now,
At first i had them hooked up to a Denon avr 3805 (mid range 7.1 receiver)
i was happy with the mids and highs, but they were lacking bass quite badly!
I then moved my setup to another place in the same room, and there it was!!!
i was blown away at how low theese 5.5's could spit, keeping all the mids and lows of before!
After a month or two, i was curious as to how much theese babies could handle, i then powered them with an AVC A1SE (high end 7.1 receiver).
And WHAM! i keep checking if my sub is on/off!
Beautiful detail in the highs and mids
If i was to complain about one thing, is the highs, they are a tad too squeeky depending on the music.
But for the money, GRAB them! Feed em a powerfull amp, let them break in a while, find a good location for them, and enjoy!
