Strength:

Great sound through all frequencies
Very small
Low Distortion

Weakness:

none yet

These speakers are awesome!! They are very small, smaller than the sony ss-mb115's but they produce a much fuller sound than the sonys. Granted sony isn't much of a brand where speakers are concerned. These speakers outshine the Bose speakers also. The eXL 15s have great bass response for such a small cabinet. They also do great in the upper frequencies. When turned up to uncomfortable listening levels these speakers still don't have much auduble distortion. I would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone who has a small room they want music in, or someone who needs great surrounds in a home theater. They would also work well as front speakers if used with a sub (I have a JBL PB-12 that they work very well with). Very high recommendation for these speakers!

Strength:

Great highs. Good mid punch. Super clear.

Weakness:

Lack of low end bass. Placement issues. Looks? (I like 'em)

These are the first pair of speakers I have purchased, but I have listened to many different high-end and standard brands. These speakers give you the sound straight up. I played in a jazz band for several years and these speakers excel at reproducing recordings, especially for the price.
They do need alot of breathing room, probably because of their small size. Don't put anything in between them. Great for movies as well. I put mine on good solid sand filled stands with carpet spikes and that made a huge difference.

I purchased Energy's Take 5 speaker system approximately 3 months ago. The small front speakers blew on me so I upgraded to the e:XL-15 and am guite satisified. I enjoy the highs and midrange output, but very little base. Not a problem as all base signals are directed by my Marantz AV receiver to Energy's e:XL-S10 sub.
I highly recommend the 15's. The price is great as is the sound. I am however looking for more volume so will be up-grading to the e:XL-26 as my mains.

I tried e:XL-15 and Take 5 today. Sound of the 15 is better in mid and high. I love it. I think I will buy 2 pairs of e:XL-15, one e:XL-C and e:XL-S8 from www.shop4.com for $602 (+S&H). It's a better deal than Take5+ES8 sub for $500 from there.

I just picked up a pair of these today, had been using CSW Ensembles since 88 or 89 and wasn't enjoying music lately (Video was fine). I had spoken to Lee Landes of Landes Audio in Chester, NJ yesterday, he spoke very enthusiastically about the Energy products. Price was a big concern. I was looking to pick up a pair of Take 2's, listened to both and the e:XL 15's were much better sounding, at about the same price ($200 vs. Take 2 list of $180). The C series also sounded nice, but thee's a big difference between $200 and $900. I listened wit and without the ES-10 sub, also at home w/without JS Audio 12" sub, prefer music without. I would like the ES-10 sub for video though. Have listened to these for 6 hours today, really pleased. I was going to A/B w/the CSW's, but said the hell with it and yanked the CSW's, I think I'll give them to my soon to be 14 YO son (along with a 100 watt receiver) for his birthday. As he lives with his mother, I'm sure that they will both enjoy the present. (Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive stereo receiver?) Again, I think these e:XL 5's are amazing for the price.

I recommend the e:XL-15 if your space or means won't permit you to move up to larger (and slightly more expensive) speakers. For their size, they did very well. I would NOT suggest using them as the primary speakers in a 2-channel system, however, as they just can't manage enough range. No speakers in their class can, so you can't hold it against them. They would make excellent satellites for HT.
My personal recommendation is to move up to (slightly) bigger and (slightly) more expensive speakers like the e:XL-16 or PSB Century 300i if you can afford them (and have a little space to let them breathe).

I recently bought the e:Xl 15's after a long and arduous period of research. I have limited space in my living room and was looking to upgrade our home theatre system. After many auditions and listening to a number of friends systems I opted for the 15's. They just sounded better to me than the 16's and that's really bottom line when buying. I am using the 15's as my front l/r channels and have completed the system with a take-1 center channel, two take-2's for my rears and an e:Xl S8 subwoofer. I have these hooked into a Yamaha R-XV 793 and the sound is absolutely incredible. While watching DVD's you feel fully immersed in the action. I got these speakers for $225 Canadian at A+B sound and have been confidently recommending them to anyone who asks me what kind of speakers they should buy.

I was looking for a pair of cheap speakers for the kitchen - I have a pair of Mission 732 speakers in my main listening area. I didn't expect eXL-15 to be as good as the 732's, and in most ways they aren't. They do deliver a crisp high end (better than the Mission 732's), although the low end is weak (they are small!) Great value for under $200 CAD at A&B Sound. I will probably take them back though, and try another Energy speaker as primary speakers, and move the Missions to the kitchen.

Having just picked these up at a local shop, and might I say at a decent price ($196), I am VERY pleased with them. Keep in mind I am coming from a pair of Realistic Radio Shack speakers from yesteryear - either way though - I know good sound when I hear it. Although lacking a lot in lows, the exceptional quality is outstanding on these units. I'm currently powering them as main speakers with a Sony STDE825 receiver /w 14gauge MonsterCable, and they sound terrific. Put Bob Marley on, put him in JAZZ/HALL, and you would swear your standing at the door of the club.
They'll fit very nicely as satilites on my quest to build my home system.

Rating is for bang for your buck. And quality for your buck.

Wow. For the price, I don't know if you could beat these small mamoth speakers. Long ago I borrowed a friends JBL Professional series speakers for a month, and was spoiled; until recently I wasn't able to actually afford anything more than a Realistic stereo, but now with my Sony AC3 Amp, and my Sony TV, I was looking to build a system.
So I went listening. The energy's produce what some call a 'spit' on the very high notes, but I like it; it's what the music sounds like live. And listening to any, live recording (blues especially), these babies fill the room from there tiny enclosure, and bring with it the most beautiful true life voices, and acoustically flat response that I've heard from speakers of this price.

Defentily worth your dollar.
