Strength:
No complaint on both high and mid ranges. Compact tower speaker but reproduce real sound images. Very good price ($378 cdn).
Weakness:
Lack of bass but not a big problem if work with a subwoofer. Very bad luck with Energy Speakers. Purchased a pair of EXL25 and EXL15 a few days ago. Found distortion on one of new EXL25 speakers, it was manufacturing defects I believed since I never turned the volume level up more than half (with 100W amplifier). Also found a damaged/broken port at the back of EXL15, the plastic port tubing came off from the cabinet. Returned both pairs of speakers and got a new one of each. Back to a few years ago, bought a 12 inches Energy subwoofer, it was making some electrical humming noise right out of the box. The transformer on the power supply could create the trouble. Again got it exchanged. I am not saying Energy is making cheap products. I am just out of luck but I still have confidence with Energy. After listening to EXL25, I found the high and mid range were excellent, crispy and clear, but the bass is quite disappointed. I don't expect the two small woofers will make any magic. However, my 12" Energy subwoofer will make the bass different. |

Strength:
Tremendous value for the money. Attractive slim profile. Suprisingly large soundstage and firm mid bass.
Weakness:
A narrow speaker which makes placement easy, however if you have children or large pets, you should employ a little caution. A good hit might tip one over. Just got these the other day, and they sound delightful right out of the box. They are for my HT that I''''m putting together downstairs: e:XL 25 mains e:XL 15 rears e:XL C center e:XL S-10.2 sub with a Yamaha RX-V595a Receiver I just got the system, but need cables to hook it up. So while I was waiting, I decided to give the 25''''s a whirl on my 2 channel system upstairs. I ran them with my Yamaha MX-1 .It''''s a 200 watt amp, so I employed maximum caution as they are rated to 150 watts. I''''m used to the sound of my Paradigm Reference Studio/100''''s so I was prepared for these to be totally out classed. Surprisingly , the gulf was not as wide between the two! Not $2000 apart any how. Of course the Studio 100''''s have that magnificent extension, and smoothness, but the e:XL 25''''s did them self justice. If I was blind folded, I would have thought this a much bigger speaker due to the sound stage it threw. what bass it has is solid and convincing. What it could reproduce, the 5.5" woofers did well. The bass was not a big concern as I have a e:XL S 10.2 sub to go with it. The highs were a pleasant surprise too. I''''ve heard a lot of people complain about fatiguing highs from energy. Couldn''''t find any of that here. They are a very neutral speaker, maybe a hair forward, but not too much. Mark Knopflers acoustic guitar on "local Hero" was made for these. I suspect because of the very truthful nature of these speakers they may reveal shortcomings in lesser recordings , or electronics. Something to consider when putting a package together. As I said this is for a HT system, but if a person is shy on space, this model would be fine in a nice 2 channel set up. I''''m thinking like a den, or some place you would use a bookshelf speaker on a stand. Similar Products Used: Paradigm Reference Studio 100, Paradigm 9 se, Paradigm Titans and Atoms |

bass Much better than smaller units, not as good as 26s. The larger units are much better for bass. Tough to beat for retail $550. Can find cheaper on the net. Similar Products Used: eXL-16, eXL-26 |

Strength:
Great, soundstage and imaging!!! Excellent Styling. Excellent customer service from Energy.
Weakness:
None I have had these speakers for a little while now, the Honeymoon should be over by now but I still can't get enough of listening to these speakers!!! For a small to mid size room, (300-600 sq. ft I'm guessing) these are near perfect speakers for both HT, and Music. The front firing ports make placement of these speakers very easy. They are easy to drive, and thus present no problems in terms of amplifier selection. Bass response is excellent at low to mid volume levels, I bi-wired mine and it seems to give the speaker better bass extension. As the volume goes up, and I mean pretty loud, the bass trails off, and gets tighter. This is NOT a problem! If you like your music really loud, or if you have a lot of space to fill you will need a subwoofer. I haven't decided yet whether to get a sub or not, I suppose I will but more to control the bass, rather than add more bass. Sometimes, when listening to music, I have to turn the Bass Enhacement off on my Yamaha receiver, because the bass becomes too much. So far no complaints, these are GREAT speakers! And they are very well priced!! Even if I had more to spend I would go with these over the 26s, simply because you can control the bass better by adding a sub (or two), as the mids on these speakers are as good as it gets!! I bought these speakers about one year ago and I have to say they just keep getting better. I'm comtinually amazed at the range and clarity I hear in all styles of music I put on there. (rock jazz alernative blues classical) The sound stage is huge and the eXL25's leave nothing out. They play loud and soft well, and handle it seemingly effortlessly. As many people out there say you will not find a better speaker for the money. The only draw back is at louder volume the bass draws back slightly, but a decent subwoffer will remedy this nicely. |

I had been thinking about buying these speakers for about a year after hearing them at a hifi shop when shopping for an amp with my brother who is a sound recording engineer. Neither of us could beleive the sound that was coming from these speakers when compared to the price tag on them. Similar Products Used: B&W DM7's, B&W DM II's, Castle Isis |

I am sorry to ask a question on this board instead of submitting a review, but I am a bit of a novice and I need some advice. Right now I have Marantz SR-5000 receiver, xl-16's as my mains and the take 2's as my rears as well as the energy 8" sub and center-channel. I want to upgrade to floor standing speakers, and I cant decide if its worth it or not to spend the extra $150 on the 26's versus 25's. I was told that with a sub, the difference is negligable. If anyone can shed some light on this for me, I would appreciate it. My email is jfeller08@lycos.com |

Strength:
Great soundstage, very good sound in general
Weakness:
None so far (well, maybe the plastic feet) I started at Best Buy, listened to Cerwin Vega, KLH, Yamaha (all amazingly crappy), Bose (less crappy), and Infinity (OK but not great; kind of muddy). Unfortunately, I can't remember the models I listened to, but somehow I think that it doesn't matter. :) Similar Products Used: Mirage fRX5, B&W DM603 |

Excellent package... nice colourful respose across the spectrum, but the low end falls off fairly fast, so you may want to consider adding a subwoofer as a next purchase. |
