Picked up this little speaker after considering Polk PSW-120, Velodyne CT-80 & VA 68X MKII, & few others... I made sure I could return it if I wasn't happy, but must say that this ain't gonna happen! Hooked up with Denon 2720 AV amp, Paradigm Minis, & NHT surrounds, and the Energy blends in beautifully. Can't believe the bass that comes outta this thing! Great so far for both HT and regular music (though I do turn the volume up a notch for action flicks). |

Strength:
Taut, quick bass. Price.
Weakness:
Connectors. Simple feature set. My main speakers for years were the classic 3 way 10" JBL L110--terrific speakers with volumes of bass and great for rock. However, as my music tastes have changed I decided I wanted accuracy and clarity in sound and so decided to upgrade from a receiver and the JBL L110's to an Arcam Alpha 8R integrated amp and Acoustic Energy Aegis One speakers. Great equipment, but found I wanted a bit more out of the system. Upgraded cables first and that was a great thing--then decided to shop for a sub. Thought it would cost an arm and a leg and was pleased to find the reviews here of the Energy xl:S8. It lives up to everything that has been said about it. Integrates with the Aegis Ones beautifully and with some patient adjusting I've got things exactly the way I like and my music sounds great. You can spend $300 more and get more features, but this sub is a GREAT find. Similar Products Used: Paradigm sub, KLH sub, JBL sub |

I was dissapointed at first since it seemed to lack "I can feel it" bass. I regretted not picking up exls10. One day, I decided to move the subs to the corner and this has made a world of difference. I can feel it now, although it seems a little boomy. These subs are excellent for the price. Keep in mind that the location (placement) is everything. |

Strength:
exelent tight clean bass not to boomy. Great for ht.
Weakness:
none I had a 10inc 100 watt sub acoustech labs and a 10inch psb 110watt sub i was demoing, when i went back to return them i asked if they had anything a little more smaller but with the same punch and bass. The manager gave me this little energy exls8 8inch sub, i thought what this will never pack out the punch i need. Then i found out it had a 100 watt amp in there (peak 400). So i went home and demoed it. WOW! what a sub this baby packed out more punch then the acoustech labs 10inch 100 watt!. The bottom line is this sub rocked. This sub is great for movies two great bass for a 8 inch anyways. Similar Products Used: acoustech labs 10inch 100 watt, 10inch psb, |

Strength:
Size, price, responsive, good lows
Weakness:
Spring clip speaker terminals for high pass hook-up I consider this a great find. My system needed something else to pick up more of the low end and this did the job perfectly. I am a music listener, but think this would handle home theater nicely. This sub matches really well with everything in my sound system. Classical is now fantastic, acoustic is dynamite, rock is alive. I didn't want to shell out major $$ for a sub. This year I bought an Arcam Alpha 8R int. amp, Acoustic Energy Aegis One speakers (sweet), Denon DCM-370 CD changer and Nordost flatline gold speaker cables and Black Knight interconnects. My budget had run out and I needed something of quality to fill out the sound. Based on reviews here and Stereophile's recommend I chose this. The eXL:S-8 fits the bill and I couldn't be happier. e-XL-28p... These tower speakers with 100 watt power subs are incredibly satifsfying. If you listen to Jazz I would rank them a ( 5 ) , if you listen to new age or wave give them another ( 5 ). If you listen to Rock or hard bass type music I would give them ( 5 ), but I only had one problem with these fine speakers. The bass sounds great but very very powerful once adjusted from the receiver or speakers one could enjoy the subject at hand. |

I bought this sub to upgrade the bass on my Energy eXL 10's, their small but sound good for now. Soon they'll be rears. Any way the 8" out does my buddies JBL sub which is much larger easily. Hooked up to my Yamaha amp its a sweet set up. I would highly recommend buying this guy. Another friend who is nuts about stereos has the 10, it hits harder but the sound is all the same. Even in my open basement you can't tell where the sub is. Best value around. I would and am going to continue to buy Energy Speakers. Hey they're even made in Canada, eh! |

Bought this sub 1 month ago. Exceptional sound for the price. The bass is tight and works well for music. Could use a little more boom for movies, but this is a great sub for a small to medium sized listening area. For the price I paid ($238 shipped from Yawa Audio), I have no complaints whatsoever. |
