Strength:

Build quality, bass, high

Weakness:

Mid-range is a bit foward if powered by low-watt amp, but with sufficient one, mid is very good.

At first, I was a little bit unhappy with these speakers. I knew they required powerful amp to run. At that time, I had the CJ MV52, a 45 W/ch amp, and the Sony N90es, a 100 W/ch. Tried both amps with these speakers and they did not match. Sound was very detail and clear, but the mid was a bit foward. I planned to bi-amp these speakers by adding a CJ MV55 to my system. Just two months ago, I stopped by the store where I bought these speakers. I asked the saleman to demo the combo of these speakers with the Parasond HCA-1500A. I was surprised because the Parasound was only 799, but it sounded better than my CJ in driving these speakers. The mid now was focus and dead right in the center. Bass got big improved, and the sound was so musical. Placement was not critical, although I thought a clearance of two feet between the wall and these speakers was neccessary to improve the bass. I had been so happy since then.

I have owned every speaker listed above and while both pairs of KEF's come rather close to the Energy's, they don't render the same amount of energy (no pun intended). The Veritas 1.8 sound great on all types of music and they give you the music the way it really sounds without coloration or fabrication which is exhibited in many other "hi-end" speakers. I am sold on these speakers and cannot understand why other reviewers have had such bad luck with them. I advise you to listen to these speakers if you are in the market for anywhere from a $2500-$5000 speaker because they are usually discounted on the net.

Strength:

Imaging, sound stage, coherence, base

Weakness:

Size (quite large), requires fairly powerful amp (at least 100 watts)

This is a very nice speaker for the money most people paid. Don't think I'd pay $4,000/pair retail, but I don't think I'd pay that much for any speaker.

I have seen other comments that this is not a home theater speaker. Don't understand WHAT that means. Speaker has lots of bass energy. Images quite well and out of the box soundstage. Sounds very nice with music, and the better the amp, the better the sound.

Can be bi and tri wired and/or amp'd, so many can try a mix of amps; tubed for mid & highs, and solid state for base. I am using Aragon 8008 BB's which sound pretty good, but if I could add a pair of Cary amps I'd do so.

Pretty well made too (check the screws holding the speaker baskets to the enclosure, as they can work loose over time).

I've compared them to the new Veritas line, and I prefer the 1.8's. Then again, the only place in LA I can find these is at the Good Guys, which did't exactly have them set up properly (shoved right against the wall - doubt they sell many units).

Best news is that there are Finally matching center and surround channel speakers. Energy assures me that these were designed to mate well with the 1.8's and 2.8's. Time have to sell my AC300!

Strength:

great highs mid's and lows, sound stage is clear,

Weakness:

are u kidding

well first of all energy is only disc. the v1.8 because of the new lines that are now available, like 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4
and of course the long awaited center and rears, but to bad that the v1.8 are living us, I work for the good guys and i feel that no speaker has come close to these for the money,
the new line is even better so take those old cd's and start to listen again, the new veritas will let you hear all the stuff you have been missing with those all high and no mid and low speakers.........by the way veritas are made by API and are very close to there bigger brothers made by paradign and mirage which i know the designer of these great speaker and trevor which is one of the reps for this great company.......and the name means musical truth.in case u wonder why we don't carry infinity any more, energy took it's place!!!!

tested with parasound amp model hca2205at, preamp avc2500u
monster cable Z2 biwire and z300 interconnects, cd player sony single disc es

Strength:

Accurate tight, bass response nice and smooth mid range
tweeter image is flawless

Weakness:

None that I can say...but, you have to have a good amp to drive them to get the stellar performance out of them

I have heard these speakers for about a year now in a friends home and they rock. Bass
response from drums are perfect. These speakers are very easy to setup for perfect image
of a sound stage. The tweeter blends so well with the mid and sub speakers it's scary. The
construction of these speakers is top notch. The Veritas line is hand built and all of the
assembly is done in-house. I have heard every type of music on these speakers from classic
music to hard-core rap and it plays it all well. They do require a good 80-120 hour break
in time. Once broke-in the will sing. Do's and do not's with these speakers. Do use good
speaker wire BI/Tri-wire cable. Do use a good two channel amp 200 watts or higher. If
using a Receiver/Integrated amp like a “DSPA-1, Denon 5700” Do not use cheap lamp
cord as speaker wire to connect your $4000.00 per pair speakers or you will probably feel
like the guys below who are knocking this line.

Strength:

Price, sound quality

Weakness:

none

After many trips to the Audio stores listening to Monitor
Audio Silver series, Canton RC-5, and Dunaudio Audience 70's, I came across the Veritas speakers by accident at
a closeout sell at the Good Guys. The speakers were
discounted to $1200/ea with no sales tax. I dragged my
friend down to listen for an extra pair of ears and took
them home with me. I got the beautiful rosewood finished
speakers at no extra cost. These are amazing speakers. If place properly, the imaging is incredible. At first, I had them placed to close to a wall and the bass sounded baffled.
They need to be placed about 1 foot from any wall because of the rear quad ports. I purchased the Nak AV-10 to drive these things and I am very, very pleased with the sound and the quality. To finish the 5.1 setup, I purchased the Monitor Audio Silver Center 10i and the FXi dipole surrounds. I can't beleive how good it sounds. The complete setup was just over $5000.
The bass on the Veritas speakers are plenty for 2 channel audio. They fill the whole house with sound.
I am still looking for a Sub for use with DVD movies. I will only connect this to the LFE channel of the AV unit.
For 2 channel audio, I have the AV setup for large front speakers only. Sounds great. I am set for the next 10 years. Buy a pair if you can find
them at a good price and spend the extra money for a good
AV unit, center channel, and surrounds.

Strength:

Smooth, open, dynamic soundstage

Weakness:

Needs excellent supporting equipment and cable

I have now used these speakers, for over a year with a number of cable, amp and pre-amp products. I can see how reviews vary by users, but I can assure anyone who is willing to spend the extra money to match componets of similar price that these speaker are exceptional. Not that I bought them and belive so, as I bought five other sets, and listened to them all in my audio room. I found bass varies from mediocre to exceptional, varying with the quaility of the source. I use a Cal 15, cd player, and a Meridian 518/Adcom GDA 700 with a rotel transport, and both devices improved the bass extrension and dynamics of the speaker, regardless of Amp and cables. So get a good digital source. The DVD/Dac and lower priced CD players combos I used were no match for the speakers. I have used bi-amped B&W 202, Pass Aleph 3's, Monarchy, ADCOM 5802, and Finally Sonic Frontiers Power 2AMPS. The speaker can be power hungry, but with the SF power2, the bass is outstanding, very detailed, powerful and fast. The other vary for poor bass preformance to average. The mid and high are to die for, great wide sound stage. Use a great speaker cable as these speaker need good control. I use Nordost Red Dawn's. very nuetral and quick. Good sounding speakers are a sum of good system matching and quality componets, so read very carefully the poor reviews. I would believe they are the effect of poor system matching, poor soundroom set-up, and less than matching audiophile componets. If your spend this kind of money on speakers, plan to spend at least 60% on matching componets. Once you get it, take a seat, and you are in the front row.
