Strength:

Nicely matched to center and surrounds, excellent imaging, keen price

Weakness:

Truly need the stands to sound good. They are a bit weak when sitting on a shelf.

When I first started looking for speakers to replace my "white van" speakers my father bought me, I was hoping to get towers. However, the wife factor proved insurmountable, and my search for bookshelves began. I looked at everything under $3000 that I could find, and nothing I heard sounded better than the veritas 2.2''s. There were a handful that sounded as good, but none better. However, the energys were a far better value than any that I heard. Even my wife was able to tell that these are quality speakers, and she is tone deaf. We listened to "The Seduction of Claude DeBussey" by Art of Noise, and she said "this is a different album through these speakers." That, to me, is a testament to their quality. What I find incredible about these speakers is that they reproduce highly organic sounds (voice, cello, sax) and highly sinoidal sounds (synthesized drums and keys) simultaneously without either becoming muddled or sloppy. My old speakers never came close. I was very lucky to find these speakers on EBay, and managed to get the bookshelves, the center, and the surrounds as a package deal. I am amazed at the matched qaulity of this set of speakers. Often, I have found that the surround speakers in any given set don''t match so nicely, or are tinny and thin. I would be happy with the Energy surrounds as my main speakers, they are so nice.

Strength:

Big soundstage, tight bass, smooth mids & highs, great clarity & accuracy, awesome build quality.

Weakness:

None in this price range. Hafta get them off the ground (on stands), but I don't think this qualifies as a weakness.

I bought these to replace my heavily modified (but ageing) Dahlquist DQ-10's. I auditioned a lot of under $1500 speakers, and the 2.2's were the best of the bunch (to my ears). Very wide soundstage... not directional - you don't have to be directly in front of the speakers to get good sound.
If clarity and accuracy are your thing, these are the speakers for you. The build quality and components are unmatched in this price range. One area in which I tend to disaree with some prior reviewers is the amount of power needed... in my opinion, they are not current hogs (89db sensitivity). When I auditioned tham at Landes Audio, they were being driven by an 18 watt p/channel KR Antares single end triode tube amp. The sound blew me away. My own 25 watt p/channel triode tube amp easily drives them cleanly. Maybe triode tube watts are different from transistor watts, but you don't need a lot of horsepower to drive these beauties. Email discussions with Energy staff confirms this. To sum it all up: these are the only speakers I've owned whose sound get's the attention of my wife and non-audiophile friends.

Strength:

Excellent soundstage, singing midrange, beautiful looks

Weakness:

At this price range, I cannot identify any weaknesses

I give these speakers every opportunity to shine - Krell pre, power, and CD; Transparent network - and the sound is very satisfying. These speakers allow me to identify the original intentions of the musicians and producers that created my favorite music. I would have been satisfied with a number of other speakers, but I think the 2.2s edge out the competition in the area of midrange detail. Good job Energy.

Strength:

Super nice sound image -- live concert sound quality -- sleek design --

Weakness:

none

I own Denon and Energy products after 1 year of searching for the best high-end audio system.

Denon AVR 4800
Energy speakers:
V2.2 (front)
V2.0R (surround)
e:xl-S12 (20-Hz subwoofer)
AC-300 (center)

Total: 4,000 USD

My review: These are combined to be the best combination I can find. My game room is 30 feet x 10 feet and I can crank up the volume with true loud sound without noticable artifacts. I listen to all types of music and this system really changed me in investing the right devices for my audiophile hobby. I am saving to get the new 2001 Pioneer Elite 520HD (53") and the progressive scan DVD 38A player.

Happy listener!

Strength:

Tonal balance, coherence, impressive dynamics, open soundstage, unmatched imaging, transparency, contour midrange, tight midbass. Very very very beautifully crafted.

Weakness:

Power hungry, inefficient, requires meaty power amp. Underpowered amps will freeze the woofers.

A quick run down, I use these speakers for 90% music, maybe 10% movies. So the most intricate, mundane details of presentation were scrutinized to a maniacal degree when shopping and comparing. My initial experience of the Veritas line was that they were not a bad set of speakers. I've heard a lot of different speakers at the price range and I was neither impressed nor disappointed with the 2.2s performance. However, upon further auditioning in-home, the price of the speaker became more and more justified and the value more and more apparent. My guess is that a poor or less than complimentary set up in the store attributed largely in my initial misgivings. How do I explain this...

Well set up properly in the comfort of my own home, the Veritas 2.2s have a very distinct wispy, airy breathe to them. They possess a weightlessness in the highs that just blow open the room acoustics. Musical notes will literally drift out of these speakers. At concert level volumes, the highs will sustain their boldness and confidence yet maintain it's characteristically delicate signature. The midrange remains tight and cohesive. In fact these loudspeakers sound most proficient at loud volumes where their stengths tear down the competition. I'd go as far as to say that the musicality of the Veritas is unrivaled at this price and even somewhat true at higher pricing points. How do I describe this phenomenon? First of all, the harsh edge that often hinders my music experience is completely displaced by an unequivocal clarity and richness. The 2.2s have such a naturally broad depth in dynamics to them that it requires little effort of imagination to become completely engrossed in the music. The 2.2s exhibit a truly holographic presentation that is not heard, but witnessed. I guess it would the subtleties that create the undeniable realism in these speakers. Very minute details that once went unheard, suddenly become invigorated from all my albums to bring a new dimension to my most favorite music. What can I say, I'm loving these speakers right now. I can't seem to get enough sound from them.

So what led me to choose the 2.2s over Energy's other offerings? Well I've always preferred large bookshelf speakers to any floorstanders because of it's inherantly cleaner overall sound. Naturally I was drawn towards the 2.2s being as they were larger and consequently much fuller than the 2.1s. As for the 2.3s and 2.4s, well I was quite impressed with the coherance of the 2.4s and the refreshing bass output. The low bass notes in the 2.4s were very, very clean and not at all contrived or muddied. They gave the type of performance expected of an $8,000-10,000 speaker.

I would recommend the Veritas 2.2 speakers to anyone committed and serious about their music. These speakers have all their value hidden in detail, clarity, depth of imaging, and subtleties. Give them a good concentrated listening and you'll never be able to tolerate anything of a lesser nature. I would also recommend PSB towers, anything Dynaudio, Vienna's pricier stuff, and most anything from B&W. If you have a large emphasis on home theater, the Paradigm stuff is awesome as well.

Strength:

Clarity with good bass. Great workmanship and cabinet

Weakness:

Current hog

I originally bought a Energy Take 5 System with a Denon 1801 receiver. I brought it home and my wife told me to take it back and get something better. The salesman suggested the Energy Veritas 2.2 (I need a bookshelf speaker for family room). When I heard them, they took my breath away. Unfortunately good speakers need good gear. I have since purchased a Bryston 9B-ST amp, B&K reference 30 pre/pro, Marantz CC-4000OSE CD Changer, Energy Veritas Center speaker and finally a M&K-150THX subwoofer. The Veritas kick ass, but you need a good amp to get the bass out. The 2.2s are good to 40 Hz and I run them in the Direct Mode of the B&K using no subwoofer. The clarity of these babies will make you cry. I compared the 2.2s in the showroom with the Veritas 2.3 and 2.4 towers. The towers had a little more bass, however the 2.2s actually had more soundstage. I mainly listen to to rock and popular music. I do not believe you will find a better bookshelf speaker for this type of music. If you are into jazz you might like the Vienna Acoustics ($$$) better. I love these speakers, I love these speakers, I love these speakers, I love these speakers.
