Strength:

Good tight deep bass.

Weakness:

Newer designs are smaller. Tricky placement position for optimal sound. Can't use both rca inputs and speaker inputs.

I purchased the sub form OneCall.com for $299+shipping. Great service and advice. I originally purchased the Boston 8000 system, but it sounded terrible (lacking mid and muddy bass). I then purchased some JBL Northridge series speakers (N24) with this sub. The sub is great! The variable crossover points make it flexible to allow adjustment to the front speakers.

I've played jazz, rock, listened to the radio and HT and it performs effortlessly. Sometimes I get too much bass! I'll probably buy better fronts and use the sub for the really low stuff.

I am having a little trouble with placement. I currently have it a foot away from the wall and about 10 feet away from the corner. My listening position has decent bass, but an area in the back of the room has really great bass. I'm still trying to find the optimal position for this thing.

Strength:

Very smooth, "unboomy" and accurate bass.

Weakness:

Unacceptable transformer hum.

I had the eXLS-10 set-up with my system for about 3 weeks. Absolutely no complaints about the sound; very accurate, very good sound for both HT and music.

However, the unit emits a considerable amount of audible transformer hum, even from 15 feet away or more. It could even be heard in quiter sections of movies. I'm not usually a picky guy, but it had literally become unbearable. I tried all the normal fixes to this problem (too numerous to list here). There have been several mentions of this issue regarding this model from other posters on audioreview.com's Techtalk section. Further, there is at least one user post on Energy's own site complaining about the problem.

Ultimately, I traded it back to my dealer for the sub from the Encore line. Absolutely no hum, and very good (if not better) performance than the eXLS-10, even though the Encore sub is an 8 incher. Bottom line, be careful if you're not buying it from a dealer, and try to get it in a quiet room for a few minutes. You won't be disappointed with the sound, however, as demonstrated by the posts above.

When this sub arrived on my doorstep, I ran it into my room and immediately hooked it up. I threw on the Chemical Brother's newest album and sat back. I was worried at first because I could not tell that any noise was coming from it. As soon as the bass line kicked in, It felt like I was having a heart attack. I still could not pinpoint the noise. I had to go directly up to the subwoofer to confirm my suspicion. This sub is simply fantastic. You can put it anywhere in a room and not be able to locate the noise. I auditioned it at the local dealer against a Velodyne in the same price range and I felt that the Energy was not as boomy. It really is a great sub and you can find some net deals on it. I strongly recomend this sub to anyone in the market for one. Buy two.

I purchased this baby a couple of days ago for $380 incl.VAT. My list also included the Velodyne CT-100,the Klipsch KSW-10,the Yamaha yst-sw300 and the B&W ASW500. They are all excellent subs each with their own pros and cons. The Yamaha and B&W sold for $350, the Velodyne for $500 and the Klipsch for $620.I initially favored the Klipsch since I own a pair of KSB 1.1s for surrounds but the local importer here is out to make a killing. The Velodyne is the most complete of all regarding inputs/outputs and filters. The B&W is the worst regarding features and the Yamaha is a bulky capable 12" but the sound performance is only par with the smaller competition. I hooked up the Energy to my Yamaha DSP-A595a at the sub output with an Audioquest interconnect and put The 1812 overture for a test. WHOW! Suddenly my Maggies MG1a were released from bondage and their sound became double excellent. The bass was astonishing, (90HZ for LPF,volume is set at 12 noon), tight but sweet and extremely musical, this little black box has changed my life! I never thought that Magnepans could blend so well with a small sub like this. Now my whole Living room feels like a stage. All the reviews here tipped the balance for this difficult selection. Thank you! I am looking forward to buy the Energy Center speaker and a DVD to experience true HT. Great job Energy!

WOW. That's all I can say. This little beauty is phenominal. I can't believe the perfomance that you can achieve with just a single 10" sub. Shakes the crap out of my house. This bad boy is a must buy. Later, I've got some movies to watch.

Strength:

The ability to shake the room!! Very low bass compared to other brands. Not boomy. Clean.

Weakness:

None.

So I purchased this sub without do much research on it, in fact none at all. The first one I had did have the "hum" that I have been reading about. It also had some problems at high volume. I returned it and the new one is perfect. I am truly amazed at times at the power that sub puts out. I did look at the XLS12 but did not want to spend the extra $$$. This sub does the job!!
