Fluance SV-10 Floorstanding Speakers

Fluance SV-10 Floorstanding Speakers

DESCRIPTION

An elite flawlessly made three-way technology speaker system in a contemporary design. With this model we were able to achieve both vivacious high-end sound and elegant style. The SV-10's narrow profile is given additional emphasis by the side positioning of the high excursion subwoofer. This allows for a uncrowded placement in your sound system. In the listening environment this speaker gives an exciting performance. With superb sound radiation and rich timbre, it converts the audio signal into incredibly wonderful music. It has top reproduction qualities in the hi-fidelity music as well as the surround sound home theater area. The SV-10 is vertically and horizontally braced internally to ensure that the acoustic image remains free from cabinet vibrations and driver resonances. Rock-solid MDF construction suppresses enclosure panel resonance for distortion-free, accurate response. By virtue of the tuned bass reflex cabinet with ports in the rear and the side-firing 8 inch subwoofer the SV-10 speakers have outstandingly brilliant and dynamic low frequency subsonic performance. Only premium components such as powerfully dimensioned high-performance magnets and Neodymium tweeters are used in the production of this system. The Neodymium balanced pure silk dome tweeters provide a wonderfully smooth and accurate projection of the high frequency portions of the signal. The result is a pure and perfect listening experience. Thanks to its distinct design and trendy natural beech finish, it harmonizes perfectly with modern living areas. This is unmistakably a speaker system made by Fluance.

Strength:

Great Packaging, and quick shipping. Nice fit and finish Good sound. Not up to the very high end equipment I have been fortunate enough to hear in my lifetime, but superior to anything else in the price range. The binding posts are wonderfully easy to use. Much better than the push-in plugs on all of my previous speakers. The center channel AV-SC is much larger than I anticipated, and the sound quality is much better than my previous Yamaha center channel. The Surround AV-BP2's were also much better than my previous Kenwood surrounds. (Though to be fair to the Kenwoods, they were single driver speakers) I fully recommend these speakers to anyone on a budget, or even those not on a budget who want a good value for the money.

Weakness:

The Speakers have to be broken in for optimal sound. The SV-10's need more heft at the bottom to resist the tendancy to tip. On my less than level floor, I needed to use the screw in spikes to adjust for level. After adjustments to the spikes, the speaker was more stable.

The $558.00 price included shipping costs. Like another listener, I chose the SV10's the AV-BP2's and the AV-SC. I had inquired over the telephone about the differnces between the SX-HTB and the AV-HTB systems. While on the phone, I asked about building a system from other components, and the improvements, if any, for using the SM-938's or the SV-10's. (The stats make it look as if the SM-938's might be a hair better at Bass reproduction.) The technician/sales person convinced me to purchase the SV-10's which use theoretically superior parts. Part II the order and delivery: I ordered the speakers on November 5th, and recieved e-mail notification on November 6th of shipment via UPS. The speakers arrived on November 11th. From my standpoint, very quick shipping for 5 speakers. All speakers arrived double boxed, which was good, as there were some small punctures and tears on the outside boxes from shipment. Opening the first box, you find several layers of styrefoam packing, then the second box. In the second box, you find more styrefoam, and the actual product. Having lived with 2 blown woofers for 6 months, I eagerly hooked up the SV-10's. The Results: As mentioned on other review sites, the speakers did take a while to "warm" up. However, I am completely satisfied with the purchase. I truly did not expect to satisfied with the Fluance speakers. I had listend to some Klispch, Yamaha, Pioneer, and Athena speakers in store settings. All (except the pioneer, which were on sale) were more expensive than the Fluance equivelent. What a surprise for me! These name brand speakers certainly sounded no better than what arrived at my house. I now intend to purchase a powered sub-woofer as well. The low-end simply does not have as much impact as I had hoped for when I saw side mounted subwoofer/woofers on the speaker description. To be fair to Fluance, the technician in my previous call had indicated a need for a powered sub-woofer when setting up for home theatre. At low listening levels, the bass is sufficient. At higher levels, you will notice the drop off to a higher degree. I may try bi-amping as my reciever supports that option. In Conclusion: I am not an audiofile, but am a trained musician. I teach music and choir at my elementary school, conduct and rehearse 6 choirs at my church, and assist the local community choir as necessary. I am a baritone vocalist, pianist, and when necessary, an organist. My previous audio experience was decidedly mid-fi, as both a student in HS/college and teacher in the 80's. I upgraded to Home Theater in 1997 with a Technics SA-GX770 which replaced my Luxman reciever. This Year, I upgraded to a Technics SA-DA20 reciever, and that was what drove my speaker purchase. My previous speakers were custom manufactered back in 1986, and were made of solid red-oak. As much as I liked the pair, I decided to replace them with matching speakers. This meant that whatever speakers I choose, I had to purchase the entire set from the same company. System used: Technics SADA20 Reciever Toshiba Sd-2800 DVD player Toshiba 27A51 Television Panasonic HIFI VCR Technics SL-5 Turntable Technics ML-400 110 disk CD Changer ScientificAtlanta 8500 DVR with digital cable (Via Time Warner) One Pair Fluance SV-10 Mains One Pair Fluance AV-BP2 Surrounds One Fluance AV-SC Center Channel The DVD Player was connected optically w/ s-video. The VCR and DVR were connected via traditional L/R stereo connections and standard Video cable. All speakers were connected using 12 gauge cable.

Strength:

Great Looks Great Sound Unbeatable Price!!!

Weakness:

I have some pretty thick plush carpet and the speakers seem a little unstable, not bad but I get a little nervous when my dogs start playing.

You can't beat these speakers for the price. Sound quality is very good. It took a few days to break them in properly but now the sound is great. Orded the speakers from Fluance.com. Shipping was reasonable and very quick. These speakers are great for both movies and music. Couldn't be happier.

Strength:

Great Sound Price!!! Speakers blend well with each other.

Weakness:

Not a single one that I can name.

spent. I decided to buy the seperate SV-10's, the dipole surrounds, and the better center channel. This system blew me away the first time I heard it. I played blackhawk down on it and was amazed. Powered by a Denon 3300 this system really hits hard. For the price you cannot find a better system. I am a college student and this fit my budget but I got far more than I ever thought. I have also listened to Polk RT series and these could definately hold their own against them. For a beginning/intermediate system there shouldn't be a second thought.
