Strength:

the sweetest mid-range you''ve ever heard

Weakness:

none

I wanted to wait a few months before I submitted my subjective views on these speakers...and it''s still "WOW"...I originally went to audition the PSB 5T which I had heard rave reviews about...but decided to give the JM''s a listen on the advice of my local audio salesman....and the difference was very apparent...the highs were accurate without being as harsh as the PSB...the midrange is about perfect..the sweetest I''ve ever heard and the bass is tight and controlled...I would say overall that these are more attuned to Jazz music...but they still do rock and blues justice...I feel they''re a little bright for classical...but my girlfriend who is a concert violinist think they sound just about right....overall I think you cannot find a better sounding speaker under 1,000..maybe even 2,000...so do yourself a favor and give these a listen...

Strength:

Sound sound sound, these speakers blew away anything in their price range and bested a fair number of speakers that were a helluva lot more expensive.. DON''T BUY A SET OF SPEAKERS WITHOUT AT LEAST GIVING THESE A LISTEN...

Weakness:

None

Decided it was time to update my Stereo stuff without spending a fortune...went into the store with some fairly firm pre-conceptions about what i would buy,(Yamaha reciever and Paradigm Speakers) based a lot on what I have read on the forums here...Walked out with JMLab Chorus 715''s and a Marantz SR5000 receiver For the money nothing even came close to the sound that these 2 units produced. The salesman sensing my reluctance especially on the reciever end, said take it home , try it, and if you don''t like any part of the setup bring it back!! Well..I still have what I bought. PS price is Canadian $$

Strength:

Fast, musical, "up front" presentation, good dynamics, price

Weakness:

At this price, its a no-brainer. However, for those that prefer classical music or don't like a bright sounding speaker, it may not be the best choice.

It's good to see that audioreview added some new speakers to the JM Labs listings. I'm pleased to be one of the first to review this fine speaker. First, my system:

NAD 541 cdp
NAD C350 integrated amp
JM Labs Chourus 715 speakers
Kimber PBJ interconnect and cheap Kimber speaker wire

It might also be prudent to note that this system represents my first foray into the world of hi-fi, so interpret my comments accordingly.

In auditioning various speakers and components I listened to all of the speakers I listed above plus one or two others that I can't recall. Nothing really impressed me that much until I heard these 715's. Within the first 5 seconds of hearing them I just immediately thought "WOW! Now *this* is what music is supposed to sound like." Now I don't have a professional reviewers extensive vocabulary or a golden ear to rely on in describing the sound, but hopefully I can describe them in a way that will do them justice.

The Chorus does have an up front presentation. Some people might even consider it bright. To me, on a "brightness" scale its about perfect. I'd describe the sound as lively and involving. The dynamics and the speed of the speaker are also very good; this is something that I notice particularly on passages with fast percussion. It's able to handle complex pieces with coherence and without getting confused. What particularly impresses me is the way that it conveys the texture and timbre of an instrument, especially woodwinds and acoustic guitar. When I listen to John Coltrane's _Giant Steps_ it really *does* sound like a saxohphone, and man does it sing. It also presents vocals extremely well, from Tori Amos to Diana Krall all sound excellent. Overall I'd say that this speaker excels at jazz, vocals, and any sort of small scale acoustic recordings, however, it has the ooomph to do loud rock as well. Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite rock bands, and these speakers definitely can handle it with ease. If you listen to jazz, rock, and folk music primarily, I think that you can't go wrong with these speakers. However, if you listen primarily to classical, you might find that the presentation is too up front for that type of music. That said, I do own quite a few Mozart CDs, and they don't sound bad at all.

A speaker that retails for $850(at the time I bought them) certainly isn't going to be the last word in audio technology. I listened to these against the new Cobalt 816s, and while the Cobalts are a marked improvement, the Chorus certainly wasn't embarassed. And they sounded hands down better than anything else I heard under $1000. If you're looking in that price range, I would highly recommend putting this speaker on your shortlist. In the context of the price, it would be a crime to rate these speakers at anything less than 5 stars.

Strength:

Very Clear and Clean sound with tight bass

Weakness:

The tight bass is too tight for movies

I am newly exposed to the world of quality sound. While searching for a speaker within my budget, I auditioned the PSB Image 5Ts, Klipschs and Paradigm Monitor series. However, as soon as I heard the Chorus 715's I was amazed by the clarity of the sound. I auditioned them together with the PSBs and Klipschs and everytime I would switch to the JM labs the clarity was clearly heard. For a marginal increase in price, I found the Chorus 715s to be a big step ahead of the Image 5Ts and Klipschs. The Paradigm Monitor 7s were close but I chose the JM labs Chorus 715 for thier compactness. These speakers are a great bargain in their price range
