Got these from a friend to use with my computer as monitors for creating electronic music at home.I work in a proper studio so these were basically bought for pre production work from home. For the price i payed for them i am extremely happy with their perfomance and clarity.
Admitedly i have worked on better sounding monitors but again its $ vs perfomance. I dont think you can really go past them for the price...

Strength:

Treble

Weakness:

Colouration

I listened to these speakers when shopping for something to slot into my second syetem in my home office/study.

They have a not unpleaseant sound but I found their midrange to be strident and grainy. The sound is not boxy (in fact they are quite open) but I prefer colouration to be sweet rather than dry - it's easier to listen to for an extended period. Initially they can sound detailed, but I think it's really just an over-emphasis on the treble and upper-midrange. In a speaker of this type I guess that is the same as saying they don't produce much bass.

All the same, I wouldn't criticise these speakers too much (after all, what do you expect to get at this price?) but if you are after something in this price range for a first system in a small room I'd strongly recommend listening to the Tannoy Mercury M1. For just a little more ($400 Aust. as opposed to $320 Aust.) they have a much more relaxing and capable sound.

Strength:

Good binding posts, build quality

Weakness:

A little over-bright maybe.
Tacky stickers

If you are looking for a set of b speakers or for a second system these speakers are for you! These speakers offer good build quality for the price (£100, richer sounds) and the bass is good for the cabinet size, this is probably due to the twin front-firing bass ports and the fact that I have now bi-wired them (This does help a lot). The gold plated binding posts are superb quality for the money and they also allow bi-wiring another nice touch. They also look nice (I think) when they are compared to other models in the same price bracket.

The only problems I have with these speakers are :
They are a little bright for my tastes I mostly listen to bands such as the Stereophonics and Toploader
The Gale stickers are tacky and subtract from the looks.

The only reason that I do not wholeheartedly endorse these speakers is because I feel that spending that little extra and buying a pair of floorstanders such as Tannoy's Revolution R2 is a much better investment for those who would use the speakers regularly and if they have the space. Although I would definately recommend these for B speakers in a cinema set up or for a second system.

Although I bought these to replace a pair of Mordaunt Short rears I have ended up using them on a small setup in my workplace. The best thing about these small units is the Bass, for a small (12"x8"x7") compressed fibre unit it is truly impressive. Like all Gale speakers of my acquaintance they are finely balanced and very detailed throughout the range. But the bass punch is something else, very vivid and dynamic it hold up a detailed sound stage at odds with its price, size and appearance. Don't know the company much as I only found it on-line (HiFi World), but they deserve some recognition for their ability to fit so much in such a small box. I'll be back again when my present Paradigm surround set wind down to spend more (or less ) money. Top Stuff
