Strength:
Bass slam ,soundstage ,dimensionality and design.
Weakness:
Weight and the original GSAT sub, once you update your sub the whole picture changes.I gurantee it. I found out that these speakers require some tweeking but the biggest improvement came when i updated the suwoofer section to 501 series for an additional $1250,00 This improvement changed the slam factor from bloated to utterly earth shattering with tremendous slam and taut vibration free response. These speakers are great for home theater application however they will blow you away in 2 channel given great source such as Linn solo 500 .Extrelely easy to listen to with plenty of soundstaging .A joy to look and to listen to.However make sure you feed it top notch current and good signal .I have had mine in the home theater for 5 years and have not found an equal. I've owned these speakers for over a year now. I purchased them from a friend who decided he wanted to dump $20,000 into the 350SE. I've never in my life enjoyed a speaker more then these. I've owned speakers ranging from Thiels to Audio-Physics, and none have stayed in my listening room as long as these have. This is probably the most underrated speaker in existence today. 5 Stars, all the way. |

Strength:
Soundstaging, 3 Dimensional Imaging, Incredible Dynamic Bass - Superb Rhythm
Weakness:
They sound as good as your equipment. They don't hide anything. This is one of the first genesis speakers to fix the well known genesis mid-bass problem (typically associated to the ribbon/woofer cross-over region in the 300s,200s,II,I.) The design utilises to 2 mid-bass "coupler" drivers filling the 100-200hz region which makes the transition to the 15" sub on the side, absolutely seamless. For those of you familiar with Genesis servo subs, I don't need to tell you how perfect their bass response is, but let me just comment on this driver. The 15" driver in this speaker is exquisite. You will not believe your ears, as it sounds as tight as a good Scanspeak 8" paper cone. It's actually an EXTREMELY rigin aluminum cone driven by a servo/accelerometer controlled 500w power-amplifier. Genesis knows how to do bass right. Strength:
Intensive and dynamic sound stage. Very smooth and intense when properly tuned to room. Excellent build and looks!
Weakness:
They are big but not huge. Takes a small amount of time to tune, but what audiophile doesn't like to tinker. I will make this short. This speaker, when properly tuned and set up to your listening room; will dazzle you! It has dynamics that I have never observed before. I have owned high end speakers in the past and this set is a keeper. Matched with the Genisis G-750 center it is a perfect match and timber. The built is superb and the component quality is unmatch at this price range. The tremendousness of the bass is awe inspiring and the mids and highs are in the same boat! It is very versitile and forgiving on placement (just don't put them in too small a room). I feel that my search for a perfect speaker is over (unfortunately). There are other super high end speakers out there (most made by, well; Genisis) but I want to keep my marriage. You won't be sorry for investing in these beauties! Enjoy! Strength:
Clarity, depth, focus, aesthetics.
Weakness:
Difficult to set up. When I got these speakers home my initial reaction was that I had made a horrible mistake. They sounded terrible and they are huge (and I live in a loft with 12foot ceilings), they looked like small skyscrapers in my living room. After I stopped hyperventilating and addressed myself to a proper read of the owner's manual (actually there are two, one for each speaker), I began to calm down a bit. The first thing that you should know is that the fronts of these speakers are cherry, and not rosewood as mentioned above. They weigh about 240lbs each, and I feel they look better, or at least more decoratively compatible, with their grills in place. When I sat down and looked at the APM-1's I realized just how much genius went into their design. Despite their relative size they have been designed with a relatively slim profile, allowing them to disappear into their surroundings. The baffle gracefully bows in toward the top and the sides are finished in a matte black that just disappears into its surroundings. And although the wood is not rosewood, it certainly is quietly elegant. |

Absolutely outstanding! Similar in sound and timbre to the renouned Genesis V, the "APM's magic is in the drivers" (to quote Genesis' own words). The design is a departure from previous projects, and lends itself well to not only music, but home theater applications. The drivers consist of a 1" planar ribbon tweeter, which is 0.0005" thick, and constructed from a laminated membrane of aluminum and Kapton (extremely fast response). The tweeter is rated flat to 36Khz (-3dB). The midrange cone is comprised of pure titanium, 5.5" in diameter. In addition, there are two 6.5" metal-cone midbass drivers. All this makes for very low distortion and crisp transients. Now let's get down low! In order to match the formidable bass response of the APMs, you would have to buy two Genesis 900 subwoofers, of which each speaker has 1 built-in, at a cost of $2500 each. Each sub section boasts a 500 watt GSAT amplifier (push-pull), and a servo-controlled 15" metal-cone woofer. In a word, the bass is ASTOUNDING! |

Strength:
Sound...wonderful, sound.
Weakness:
At over 200 pounds each, not easily moved around. Magnificent. That is the only word that can describe the sonic perfection that is presented by the APM-1s set up only 2 days ago. The soundstage is wonderful and presentation utterly special. In deciding on the APM-1s I, after listening and researching many superior speakers, had it narrowed down to Proac Response 5s and the APM-1s. In the end the value added to my listening pleasure by the APM-1s won out. I will enjoy these speakers for many years to come! Similar Products Used: Proac Response 5, Avante Guard |

Strength:
full range transparency
Weakness:
none that amount to much I have set these speakers up in an "L" shaped room where one woofer fires into an open area and they sound fine. I don't agree with any critisism of them being difficult to set up. I plopped them down, slid them to and fro, played with the level adjustments, and there they stay! What is so difficult? These are large and beautiful speakers. I bought these from a comparison between Vandersteen 5, Thiel 2.3 and 3.6, a variety of B&W, and Meadowlark speakers - all of which I spent a lot of time listening to - albeit not always with the same components. In a nutshell, when properly setup, the Genesis APM-1s blew away the competition - BUT ONLY WHEN SET UP PROPERLY. When I got these to my house, they sounded average at best when compared to the speakers above. After a lengthy 2-3 weeks of tuning (the back has every tuning parameter you can imagine), these speakers are awesome. Very airy, great imaging (a soundstage so wide you'll be amazed), and balanced frequency response all the way down to 25 Hz in my environment. It sounds equally good with music and awesome in home theater. My components are Theta Casablanca, Proceed AMP 5, Rega Planet CD, Pioneer DV-09 DVD, Nordost wire all around. |
