Strength:

Huge Center Speaker, Realistic Sound, Can't say enough!!

Weakness:

Better be ready for a big speaker, but that is not negative!

I actually listend to someone who knew what they were talking about before I just ran out and bought something. This speaker is incredible. I have been told that the Swan Diva is better, but it costs around $500. I believe I can live with this inexpensive beauty. I have been told that the most important speaker in the entire system is the center channel when it comes to home theater use. I can now see why. When I listened to movies using all of these other products I thought I should only hear voices and nothing else. Now I realize that I was totally wrong. I watched the fast and the furios on DVD to hear the difference in my new speaker. Before, I had a hard time understanding what was said at times in the movie because there is so much background noise that it drowned the dialogue. With this speaker I was able to hear not only what was being said, but little things in detail such as pages flipping in a magazine when the lead character is talking to a girl across the counter at a roadside bar. If you are looking for a QUALITY speaker that won't let you down this is it!! This company will give you your money back if you are not 100% satisfied and the 5 year warranty is great. I was very reluctant to get something over the internet without hearing it first, but not any more!!!!!!

Go Get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

great sound at low and high volumes, sub-woofer delivers hard punch

Weakness:

as seen before... big black boxes

Review for Level 3 Set
Movies: Shootout scene in begining of Hannibal - Gunshots rang all around the room. You can hear gunshots and gun shells dropping in the surrounds. Center channel spkr delivered clear dialogue. Subwoofer just rocked the room. Cast Away: plane crash sounded amazing! Also, when coconuts fell from trees...sounded so realistic from different areas of room. Music - Played music channel through digital cable... sounded crystal clear. Even regular TV sounded great.

I used 14 gauge wire and double shielded cable w/ y-adaptor for sub. Took some time to tweak through the receiver and to adjust gains on all speakers. Also, setting the speaker size on the receiver to SMALL made a huge difference.

Strength:

Great natural sound, build quality is fantastic. Dazzling bass and midrange. Clean highs are especially noticeable with the live, small venue jazz I listen to.

Weakness:

None

I finally received my Level 3 speakers from HTD (which have been on backorder for more than 4 weeks), and frankly, I don’t understand the last two reviews on this site. I love these speakers! They sound incredibly natural and smooth. They don’t color the high end like so many speakers so maybe they’re not initially as exciting, but I can also listen to them for hours without feeling fatigued. The cabinets are made of dense MDF wood (I removed the connecting plate to be sure) and have a really nice painted finish. They are not plastic as someone here alludes, which makes me think they reviewed the wrong product, maybe the level ones which are plastic. I've not seen or heard a more solidly built or better performing speaker for under $300. I couldn't be happier with them.

Strength:

Low Price

Weakness:

Larger than expected; surprisingly poor sound.

I unfortunately feel I may have been duped by the reviews here. I got to believe they were probably left by HTD’s staff or other interested party. With such glowing reviews, I expected to be bowled over by their quality sound and construction. I am not. First of all, they are much bigger than your typical bookshelf speaker. Check the dimensions before you buy. Second, I was a little shocked by how shinny and fake the “cherry” plastic cabinet looks. Most of all, I was quite disappointed by the muddled sound. By them self, especially at softer levels, they lack definition and clarity. They are not too bad if I turn up the volume of my Dell/Harman/Kardon computer speakers, which sit directly between the HTDs.

But, they were a gift from my wife, so I am going to keep them. They were, after all, not that expensive – I have spent much more money on sillier things in the past. I should say that after years of listening to smaller bookshelf speakers, it was nice to hear some real bass again.

Strength:

Value, craftmanship, and sound for the price

Weakness:

Slight midrange harshness...can't really call it a weakness due to the exceptional value.

Picked up the Level III satellites and center channel. Very surprised to receive an incredible speaker for such a great price. The parts used with this speaker generally will not be found on speakers under $500.

This set is replacing a Scanspeak MTM Kit which I built and is currently in my bedroom. Sonically, the speakers due very well. It may be a little bright with my home theater, but it still is impressive. With music it sounds good. However, I noticed a little harshness in the upper midrange. Probably needs a little tweaking with crossovers. Most users will probably not even notice this. There is a lot of punch down low with these speakers.

I may be a little critical of this set because I have the opportunity to compare side by side with my other speakers. Which probably is not fair because of the price. However, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Definitely would recommend this product.

Strength:

Nice looking cabinet, aparently quality componants, cheap

Weakness:

Sound quality! Lack of clarity: muddled mids, absent highs

I originally bought these speakers on the strength of the etown review. With all that raving I expected to be very impressed when I listened to them. They looked very nice coming out of the box (except for being made in Taiwan), felt solid and all, but the sound quality is just substandard. I thought I had a defective crossover they sounded so bad, but since both sounded that way I considered it quite unlikely.
I preformed careful A/B tests against my Infinity RS2's ($250) and even against my little Pinnacle AC 400 ($150). Of the 5 people that listened to them, all indepedently noted a total lack of crispness in the Level 3's, a muddled midrange, and a difficulty in differentiating different instruments. The RS2's were fuller, sharper, and allowed one to hear the different instruments separately. Even the Pinnacles, at about a forth of the size, made a strong case against the level three's for music enjoyment.
Maybe the sound of these speakers works well in home theater but for music this is poor, poor design. Sadly the Infinity RS2's are discontinued but I'm sure that one can find a better speaker in this price range for music listening. I returned the Level Three's after a week.

Well you are always a little leary of buying something you've never seen before, but let me just tell you that you can be prepared to be pleasently surprised. They sound so nice and clean. The sub rocks. Don't waste your money on anything else get these in your house, besides if you don't like them they will take them back. As if anybody would send these back.

Crisp, Clear Sound. Great Price!

Weakness:

I was looking for a set of speakers and found a review on CNET web site, then read about them on ETown. Got 2 main speakers (Level III) for Christmas and setup them up. What can I say but WOW! Well beyond any of my hopes and dreams. I will be getting the rest of the 5.1 setup in the near future.

good quality, good sound, low price

I ordered the package deal which includes 5 speakers (all level 3) and a sub which has not shipped. The speakers are awsome and I could not believe the price after shopping for speakers at Good Guys. I also ordered the speaker stands which I like and 100 ft of speaker wire for $10. Cann't wait to get the sub but even without it the speakers sound really good. I think this is one of the best deals on the internet and go well with my Outlaw receiver which I also really like. I hope the sub turns out to match the quality of the speakers. The center speaker is very big and goes well with the 65" TV.

Strength:

well-constructed, excellent sound, reasonably priced, and aesthetically pleasing.

Weakness:

none

I previously purchased a pair of HTD level III bookshelf speakers, and was using them with an audiosource center (2 4" poly woofers, and a 3/4 polycarbonate tweeter). The HTD III greatly overshadowed the audio source center so I decided to order the HTD level II center as the level III center is 4" wider, as well as being deeper and higher. The size was a consideration in view of my HT set up.

I was pleased to learn that HTD has replaced the tweeter in the level II with the same 1" silk fluid cooled tweeter that one finds in the level III. In addition it has 2 very good quality 5 1/4" coated paper woofers an either side, and a crossover of about 2,800 which is the same as found in the level three bookshelf speakers.

(Read Brent Butterworth's review in Etown.com regarding the HTD speakers.)

The sound is clear and warm. The voice articulation is excellent even when one sits off center, and the musicality is quite good in 5 channel stereo.

I watched a DVD in DTS, and listened to a CD with vocal and guitar in 5 channel and both sounded quite good.

I don't think you can find a center speaker with these high quality components, look and sound for 4 times the price.

HTDs customer service and shipping is excellent. I got a call back the next day, and Brian answered my questions and also let me know that they were sending me the level II with the upgraded tweeter. In addition he mentioned that the level III center, which is only $50 more, has had the crossover reset to 2,800 in response to the review in etown.
