Strength:

Easy to look or stare at, sleek narrow design (9 inches wide, 8 inch woofers), curved front baffle design elegantly crafted, housing around speakers looks pretty and expensive, detailed dramatic movie experience, powerful and explosive dynamics, easily powered to play at crop deafening levels, never heard them strain or distort even all the way turned up, nice hook-ups that access 10 gauge bare speaker cable, biwireable so you get 4 hook ups on the back of each speakie, durable, natural sounding on most any movies, will blow you away at times, reading my review is strengthening

Weakness:

Shreeking highs occasionally but too often on most musical tunes(I call this the HEADACHE effect!), heavyweights aren't easy to move around (70 pounds each, Yish! unless you're super mario brother), matching center is also a monster but cool enough if your tv is big enough (65 inch tv is big enough), too tall (42 inches high), too deep (13.5 inches deep), bright tweeter bugs, upper midrange bit screetchy and screwy sounding, no healthy roll off(UGH! what the tarnations! who designed this sh*t to not roll off!?) a roll off would have made them much more pleasant playing music (maybe less true life sound detailing on movies? or not as ear-deafening? both are terrible excuses), i recommend using a 5 or more band equalizer to tune them better to your liking, very finicky speakies to my very finicky ears, my spelling in my review isn't perfect, i know most of you will say i don't know a rat pellot from a hole in your head but as you can imagine i don't care

I read other reviewers statements. You should be ashamed of what you justify spending on theater equipment. I can agree to an extent but $800 is not pocket change for me. I wouldn't say normal people spend that much on a pair of speakies. I guess I'm poor compared to other people who afford these speakies. They act like $2500 is a days salary and $2500 for a home theater is merely entry level shananigans. *cough* Yeah right! Entry level is what the average Joe spends on a HT. I expect more so I spend more. $2500 should buy you something that does everything alot better than a system that cost under $1000 down to the nitty gritty wire and speaker stands. Even buying these things at huge savings was still expensive. I spent $2500 and got huge savings through ebay. I'm not griping I'm just being realistic. I'm not calling other reviewers rich I'm calling them cocky sounding.
Ever heard of the Sony Sava D-900 HTIB? Most people wouldn't give them a chance (not high feluting enough or whatever) yet I've proudly owned a pair for 6 years. They have a much better music performance sense at 1/5th the price of these overpriced Infinity's. Yes, I own the Beta 50's and I want to think good about them and say good things but just not all the hype is true.
I began loving Infinity when I listened to their Composition Overture series but they were so rediculously overpriced it gave me a huge frowny when I looked at the price tag. I finally afforded a pair of the 1's this year ($450 for a pair) and use them as surrounds. Vurry nice (as Barat would say).
For the size of my living room I needed stronger home theater speakies. $500 Sony's are good in a bedroom HT and provide pleasant, albeit not as loud as I wanted my HT to be, sound. One to fill up my living room had to be a monster. A little more powerful than the I believe the 25 beastly watts *LOL* of the Sony system.
Movies are the only thing these speakers do better than half azz well. I don't have them overpowered. I can't imagine why the need. 100 watts each of Pioneer Elite receiver power that costs about the same as the speakers ($800-$1000). Which I feel was a fair amount to spend on power. They play loud now. It's not *chinsy* to my pocketbook. Maybe more power would help but I got budget and bills to pay. Unfortunately my crap doesn't turn platinum or gold or whatever. I work for my money.
I bought the best wire I could find in a price range under a quarter mil. I've actually done alot of comparisons on wiring. I found that KNUKONCETZ is a superior brand that probably no one knows about. It cost less than popular brands and is as good as anything I've spent up to 5 times the price for!! I yanked out all Monster high-end junk and replaced it with KnuKonceptz down to the sub cable.
The lows are good but those highs are just too-loud. So far at least. I haven't bought the wire needed to biwire but it's well close in store for my future. Maybe then I can be made as thrilled as everyone else is?! So far no recommendations can be made from me to buy them. I own them. They should be better they leave me desiring a little more. The music is too thin sounding. That's ashame.
They do well on impact scenes and human voices. They crank up and play louder than anything I've ever owned. I mean REAL FRIGGIN LOUD in most frequencies not just the highs but the highs are incredibly loud (not good)! When music plays its like the highs are overwhelming bright harsh and kill my ears. A real turnoff for me. Making their sound too high toned for musical enjoyment. I scooted them into a corner and that has helped but I wouldn't say I'm $2500 happy. Maybe I'm so used to the sound of my Sony's which roll off the extreme highs wonderfully well and plays bass drums precisely from the subs and mids accurately but at a much less powerful level. The crossover I believe is where the blame lies. 600 hertz for the mid seems to high to me! If drums came from the mid and woofer that would've been okay with me! These speakers don't seem to blend as well as I know they should. The speakers work in a manner to make the loudest racket possible and shorting the musical value of sound quality. Taboo. $450 was what I paid for the pair.

Strength:

percussive capabilities (bullets or bombs will be noticed!)
"in your face" highs excellent for movie effects.

Weakness:

small weakness in music listening (great speaker for rock and more intense music)

The sound these speakers deliver at their price point is remarkable. the highs a poignant without being harsh. The mids are clear and clean, and the lows are very powerful when a proper amplifier is utilized (150w or greater is preferable). The cabinatry is standard, but the separate face plate is somewhat chinsy otherwise the veneer is very nice in the cherry color. these are primarily a home theater speaker and perform wonderfully with movies and well with music. However, i would hesitate to call these an audiophile speaker, they lack some of the capability for 2 channel listening. overall, one would be very hard pressed to find a better speaker at this price. if you desire an excellent ht speaker without spending an arm and a leg this is it.

Strength:

Sounds as great as they look.

Weakness:

none to date

Excellent speakers for the price. Will be purchasing the Beta 20s, C360, and SW12 as well in cherry furniture. Matched up with the Yamaha RX-V1500 and is a great combo thus far. Can't wait to finish the remaining sets to hear my house roar and my neightbors peeking through their windows. Definitely worth a look for under 1K!

Strength:

Excellent bass, tweeter nicely captures every acoustic sound in music.

Weakness:

None that I can find.

The Infinity Beta 50 speakers go beyond what I expected. First, the exterior is super sharp, especially the cherry finish. Second, the bass is solid and well balanced, not overpowering like the Boston Acoustics I replaced. Third, a crisp and clear sound from every angle in the room.

Strength:

tight bass, solid cabinets, good sound for the price

Weakness:

metal grills for sure create standing waves and a combing affect, clarity will not rival speakers that cost a lot more than these

Well, The reason that I like these speakers is that I have them over powered so they the bass is equally powered to the highs and mids, which is something that many floor speakers are lacking. I dislike the fact that they have metal grills because it does displace the soudn field and i am starting to think that it has a combing affect on the highs, therefore i would use them with the grills off. I liike the fact that they can hit really hard and they are probabyl some of the best soudn speakers i have ever heard for under a grand. The cherry looks very very sharp, It looks much betterr than the black vineer that looks a little chinsy. The bass is very tight and accurate and the mids a really strong and the highs are clear. The bi-wiring and bi-amping make a huge difference in the accuracy of the bass and the how high the clears are. They will not sound nearly as clear as a pair of theils that cost $5000, keep in mind that they are only a grand and therefore will not outperform good speakers that cost more, but they do beat anything in the same price point, i have a buddy with the paradigm monitor 9's and mine blow away the paradigms ad i had a pair of mirage frx7's and there is a great deal better sound from these speakers as well, as far as my basis of comparassion i am yet to find a better pair of speakers for under a grand. I can say that the beta 50's sound better than the klipsch synergy line, the def tehcs, the b&W that are entry level, the mirage line, polk by a long shot, boston acoustics, athena, yamaha etc. Honestly these speakers have the capability to out perform all of these brands speakers in the 1000 price range. I would highly recomend these speakers for the price. The are much better than the alpha line from infinity as well due to the redesign of the cross over and the tweeter. I got a tremendous deal on these speakers from harmon directly and therefore did not post the price
