Strength:

Great sounding!!! Pink Floyd and Dave Matthews have never sounded better!!!!!! Couldn't even turn the bass up the whole way. Great set of speakers!

Weakness:

Bass control is covered up by front grille. Bout all folks!

Bought as most have, off of ubid. Paid 327/pr. Figured a good deal because of the high retail price. They have sounded great since I hooked them up! Bass is not annoying and mid-ranges are very clear. My reciever is not powerful by any means and even it manages to make these speakers sound great!! Thank goodness for the powered sub. But, if you're expecting them to play rap, you may not be impressed. I recommend playing Dave Matthews-Two Step.....crank it up......sounds awesome!!!

Strength:

Clear sound, tight bass, self powered amp, UBID price

Weakness:

Flimsy grill, bass control behind grill, M.S.R.P.

I am basing my review on the $327/spkr. price I paid from UBID. These are NOT $1,200-$1,400 per pair speakers as they are sold at Circuit City and others. For the MSRP you can get a much better speaker. They are very good speakers at the UBID price. The grills are unecessarily flimsy. The bass control is behind the grills so adjustments require removing the grills. Even as thin as the grills are, they still cut some of the sharpness out of the sound especially from the tweeter. I remove the grills for listening, and to my ear, it does make a fair difference. I also took the advice of other reviewers and adjusted the base pins so that the speakers angle upwards. This also made a noticable difference. These are not what I consider "warm" sounding speakers. They've got quite a punch across all frequencies and can sound very bright until you have adjusted them to your room. The bass is very tight and punchy but does bottom out at volume. (My personal preference is for a tight bass, so these fit perfectly) These speakers are accurate enough to make well produced recording sound great and really bring out the flaws in poor production. Bottom line is that I am really enjoying these speakers both for music and surround. They do a wonderful job of sound reproduction and were the right price. There may be better speakers out there at the UBID price, but overall I'm very happy with these.

Strength:

Solid build and sound quality for the price.

Weakness:

Cheap grills

I bought four of these from Ubid at $310 plus shipping a few months back when shipping was cheap. I use them as A&B speakers on one wall for two channel operation. I'm using a Sony ES receiver with 120 watts per side. They do create an impressive sound stage! They are not audiophile stuff but they produce a quality full range of sound, especially, at high levels. Additionally, these speakers sound much better in my home than they did in the store. The only draw back is the cheap grills. I don't use them so I don't care. They look very nice naked. UPS really beat up the packages but, the speakers came through without a scratch because they (47 lbs.) were packed well from Infinity. The sub amp auto cut-off can be adjusted at an Infinity service center, so I've heard. Mine are set at 10 minutes and work perfect. I have listened to Infinity's latest model speakers and they do look better. But, they sound the same and cost a whole lot more. I think these speakers are a bargain under $450. However, I've heard many say there are better sounding units out there in the higher price ranges. I just didn't want to spend the money. I guess that's what makes me an enthusiast and not an audiophile. Watch Ubid!! They sell Reseals at the same time they are selling New. Also, beware of the outrageous shipping charges that appear to change from day to day.

Strength:

All the bass you would ever need! Voice ranges and quality outstanding; musical instruments do not overshadow vocals. Bought these at through uBID at $407 a piece. Using a Denon AVR-2800 with multi-source component of TX-DS939, same room. The Denon fires these overtures just fine; RS8 Infinities served by the Onkyo. The Overtures are not just big bass speakers. Good for classical, easy listening, Sarah Brightman dvd One Night in Eden or The Bee Gees dvd One Night Only.

Weakness:

Bass control is hidden by the front grille. Grille pops out easily though. In a darker room the numerics on the bass dial are hard to see.

Great for home theater or musical enjoyment.

Similar Products Used:

Overtures replace Bose 701's, not bad at all but nowhere near the Overtures in output. Sound Dynamics RTS 3's are used as rears with the Denon, five channel stereo. Boston Acoustics in rear with Onkyo, CC2 center. This TX-DS939 (about to be replaced by an updated version in early winter) is one fine piece of equipment. Get them at half (or less) the original price of $2,500. Not dts on the 939 of course.

I already posted a review on these, but felt I had to
add some comments in response to Brad's baseless review which was posted in August.

He is obviously upset about something, because
the mere fact that he mentions the "ultra-thin wood",
is already ridiculous. Anyone who owns a pair of these knows that the wood is very solid and thick.
In addition the amp and bass are great! I don't know what he is talking about with respect to the amp and bass being weak. He either got a defective pair, is using a subpar receiver/amp or has some reason to be making this stuff up.

I have a discrete design, high current receiver, and
this speaker can handle a lot. It never sounds distorted.
I have yet to play it loud enough that I would have to reduce the volume to avoid any problems.
Hook these up to a decent amp or receiver, try Sarah McLachlan's 'Surfacing' CD, Andrea Bocelli's 'Romanza' or an HDCD and listen for yourself.
Or put in Faithless 'Insomnia', turn it up, remove the grill, and watch the front woofer go back and forth without any noticeable distortion, as your neighbors wonder if a nightclub opened up next door.

Sorry to go on about these, but it's not fair when someone
posts a 'review' that is clearly biased and untrue.
I don't mind someone giving an honest opinion, but most of Brad's statements have absolutely no leg to stand on!

I am not saying these are the best speakers out there by any means, but they are very capable performers when mated with reasonable hi-fi components. They are great for home theater use. For music they are still very good, although
their $2,200 MSRP is too high.
My value rating is based on the price I paid.

Strength:

clear at low volume

Weakness:

bass, evrything is distorted at mid-to high volume

DO NOT BUY THESE SPEAKERS. The only reason I could see to buy these is if you had a weak amp or receiever. I had these for a bout 3 months and tried everything to help their sound. I finally sold them after realizing the rs-5's (400.00, and by the way are GREAT for that price) I had in the bedroom sounded 3x as good. The amp in the speaker is weak and the bass is a joke. They are OK for movies and TV but the weaknesses shine on every note of every CD. I bought these on UBid thinking wow, 2000.00 retail for $750.00. DO NOT be fooled. These aren't worth the plastic and ultra-thin wood they are housed in.

I also jumped on the ubid.com band wagon and bought these speakers, but I had enough sense to audition them first at CC. $695 a pair is still alot of money no matter what the msrp is. After hearing these at CC ($599.99 each) I was more than happy to bid as high as $347 each. In my opinion these are one of the best sounding speakers you can buy in the $350 and under range (the $2198/pair msrp is a joke). But don't take my work for. I would suggest to all of you potential Ubider's to listen to these first before you bid on them. Ubid will not take them back just because you don't like them, they have to be damaged.

Strength:

Clarity, distortion-free sound with effortless output due to high efficiency, built-in amp. (Soundstage and imaging seem great, but haven't listened to them enough yet. I just got them 3 days ago). Grid-style plastic grill backing prevents objects (like tennis balls, baby's hands etc.) from damaging drivers. Elegant black contemporary look.

Weakness:

(Major): Seem easy to knock over due to their footprint shape (narrow and deep). (Minor):Bass control covered by grill.

I don't know what Loc Ngo is talking about. (See review directly below). I have 2 comments about his review:

1) The Circuit City price he quotes for the O3 is PER speaker NOT per pair. I saw the O2's (not the O3's) this past weekend at Circuit City for $599 EACH! The O3's are $899 each. (Check www.circuitcity.com for the price of the O3's).
(Also if you read other reviews or check the web, you'll find these speakers (O2's) go for anywhere between $1200 and UP a pair).

2) The 112 db capability of the speakers is NOT the same as the volume control db setting (-7 in his case) on his receiver!! No wonder his woofers are popping!

The shipping at ubid.com is per speaker so watch out!(Unless they made a big mistake on my bill).
Other than that, the deal is too good to pass up. I paid $327 each from ubid (+ shipping) for my O2's!! The shipping was $172 for the pair (FED-EX NEXT DAY AIR from TN to NJ). I am going to complain about the shipping charges, since the minimum bid is for 2 (Not 1) speakers, so why should I have to guess that I need to double the posted shipping charges to figure out what they actually charge for shipping.
Other than that, I am VERY happy. They arrived the day after the auction closed! They were in brand-spanking new condition too! I love them so far!

I will post an in-depth review when I have had a chance to listen to them for a little longer.
(NOTE: My value rating is based on the ubid.com price not MSRP or retail price. )

Cheap Price, No need for subwoofer

Weakness:

Sounds like a tin can, build quality

Bought These because of the price off u bid. Owned alot of speakers low end to high end and was never more disapointed in a pair of speakers than these. I ve owned Def tech p400 and SD P100 and thought both were superior in sound and build quality. Mid and treble had a tinney sound to it. My wife who knows nothing of home theater or stereo said right off the bat about the poor sound. I thought my pair might be defective and went to C.C. to listen. Mine where not defective, their pair sounded the same. The sales guy told me that infinity is not making them anymore and that over the years they have had many returns with these as well as the ov 1s. At retail this is a joke (2K!!) at 680 a pair at u bid is barely acceptable. At both price points there are much better choice for self powered speakers namely Def Tech 400 Sound Dynamics P100 and Paradigm P70. For non powered check out Magnepan, B & W, Paradign are all good reasonably priced products.
