Strength:

Clear, images well, fairly dynamic, true high end sound

Weakness:

few

This is a great speaker. I unloaded my Tannoys after bringing these home. I find I can drive them well with my 55 watt Onkyo receiver. The only problem I had was that I needed a slightly heavier wire for the midrange/bass driver than I had for the Tannoys (88 db?). Delivering maximum current gives a fuller sound. I use a slightly lighter wire in the biwire arrangement for the tweeter. Right out of the box these speakers are slightly course sounding, but after a burn-in of 30-40 hours they smooth out and get constant. Infinity has produced a good product for a retail price of $600. If you are looking for speakers in this price range check these out. Circuit City has a one month return policy on their products. This is good because demonstations are not all that competent at these stores.

Strength:

Clarity and detail, smoothness, quality build, that "Infinity" sound

Weakness:

Nothing a good quality subwoofer won't take care of

One of the nicest sounding speakers on the market! I bought these with a Yamaha RX-V575a receiver last year and fell in lust with the combo. I've always loved Infinity speakers and their ribbon tweeters so I thought I'd give these a listen since I'd some good things about them. Whatever you've read about CMMD is right on the money. All it took was a Steely Dan disc and I knew I had found what I was looking for: an open, detailed sound with no listening fatigue at all. Demo them with a creative bass line and you can actually differentiate the individual notes. The more power the fuller the sound so don't expect wonders with a limited headroom 40 watt amp. But hook these babies up with a decent power supply and quality sound source and you'll be amazed just how much music (or movie) you've been missing. With the addition of a good subwoofer you'll hear every sound as it was meant to be heard. The speaker is built like a vault with quality binding posts (which allows you to bi-amp or bi-wire)to boot. I know there are many good speaker brands out there in this competitive market price but you definitely should audition the IL30's before you lay down $600. Enjoy!

Strength:

Good hig& mid-freq response, strong cabinets for its class, can handle a tremendous beating (CMMD driver).

Weakness:

Little bass, CMMD driver break-in period.

Though purchased for my own use at first, I recently relinquished its duties from my living room after a 1 year run. I did this simply because my sound tastes changed, NOT because the IL30's were not worthy. The cabinets radiate a more expensive pricetag, without it. Bi-wire gold connections are a nice addition to these speakers. The highs and mids are not bright or non-existant. Very well stated balance, classic Infinity.
Though they are great speakers for the price, to me, the sound was a bit stale and cold at times. By that, I mean I sometimes was not "moved" by the sound. They also do require a lot of good power from a High-current amp. Peak power receivers need not apply for best results. The lack of bass can easily be cured with a good-quality subwoofer. Hey, its hard to get good, penetrating bass from a passive 6.5" diaphram! Sound imaging is a little sketchy at times with certain music genres (classical), but overall better than most I tested for the $600 MSRP-range. I have since replaced the IL30's, Onkyo TXDS575X receiver and Velodyne CT-80 sub with B&W 602 S2 bookshelves, the new Denon 2802 receiver, and the Carver Super Jr. sub woofer. It is an upgrade that changed with my taste in sound. I will build my 6.1 system out of my new setup.
Overall, they have weaknesses, but the strengths surpass them very well. Demo them for yourself! Barring the people who listen and drool over high-end Martin Logan's at the local Hi-Fi shop, you will probably love the sound. I can, and would recommend the IL30's for someone who is becoming an audio enthusiast and would like good sound w/o the HIGH price! ****Remember, DO NOT hook these up with a NON-high current amp! The chances of you being dissapointed with the sound go shooting through the stratoshpere!! Get GOOD WIRE as well!!****

Strength:

Detailed and clear

Weakness:

Somewhat skimpy on the bass

the bass is smooth and articulate. No problem with a boomy non-descript bass.Midrange(voices)are clear and details are easily discernable. Not an effort to listen to.However I am now aware of some smearing from my receiver(I would think the culprit).Need to upgrade to a receiver w/ 96/24 hz D/A.I have that on my DVD player,However, twice would be twice as nice.
I would think the real kick would be with Infinity IL 100 Sub or the cheaper Cicuit City 125 watt $349 Infinity Sub (model#(?)Otherwise, I'm left a bit wanting for deeper bass.
I usually listen to Jazz.Trios and quartets come off nicely.Large bands are unexpectantly realistic.(Lights out of course).I can now appreciate my few classical cds,for the first time.A great improvement over the older Infinity Ref 5's. Receiver:JVC 8000 y2k1 $399
DVD Player: JVC y2k1 $229
Interconnect: Monster Cable Lightspeed 200(Fiber optic)$90
Speaker cable:Mapleshade Golden Helix.$90
Note:I do not have these speakers bi-wired yet. They are bi-wireable.This may enhance them further....Another kick? I have to give these Infinity Il-30's a 4.5 at this point in time.(2 weeks).

sound

i went with a friend of mine to look at speakers. he was just using some old speakers (not even sure they HAD a brand), and they arelly sounded awful. after he listened to mine, he decided he needed some new ones (i have PSB image 4t's).

we went all around town, best buy, circuit city, soundtrack, etc... we demoed MANY speakers, including the infinity's. i really didnt have much of an opinion of the infinity's before i came into the store (except they are a little pricey). but after about 1 minute of listening to BB King on these i almost threw up. they sound horrible. the bass was muddy, undefined, and lacking. it sounded like every bass note was the SAME frequency, very little definition in the bass. the midrange was NON-existant (they are a 2-way... but still). it sounded flat. the voices were crisp, however, they muddled in with the rest of the music, and were not well pronounced.

maybe for a 2-way main speaker in a home theatre ONLY application, this will work. ONLY if a center channel and sub would be used. but for a music-only speaker, i have heard better in a MUCH lower pricerange (check out DCM's.) they arent anything special, but if you are looking for inexpensive, they sound twice the price.)

Strength:

Excellent sound quality.

I found a very good deal on the IL-30s. $422/pair. I used to own KLH's and the difference is as night and day. Especially with the IL-120 subwoofer, the combination is one hell of a kick.

Strength:

Nice clean sound, looks

Weakness:

None that I can think of

These speakers are great!! I purchased a pair of the IL30s about three weeks ago. I have these hooked up to a Denon AVR-1801 with 70wx5 amplifier with some monster cables.
I noticed that I need to crank up the receiver volume level pretty high (-25~-15)to get nice big sounds from these speakers. (88db?)
My first music to try was the Beethoven's Symphony #9 on a stereo mode. It sounds great. In the low frequency, I could hear the resonance from the Bass and Cello. The strings sound very smooth and natural, and the wind instruments sound very real and clear. The singers also sounded very good. (I used to be a concert master, so I'm used to the live sounds of orchestra.)
Next, I tried some trance music. I didn't notice as much of an improvment on these type of music. (Don't get me wrondg, it still sounds great)
Finally, with an ordinary pop music, I heard some instruments and melodies I did not hear before through out the frequency range. (Instruments I didn't hear before from my $1200 car stereo, and other bookshelf type speakers)
These speakers are very well built. I would like to purchase the IL40 in the future and move these IL30s to the surround speakers. (If I ever get the money)

My system consists of:
Receiver -Denon AVR-1801 (I think I shoud upgrade to the AVR-2801 to compensate for the size/efficiency of the IL30s)
Front -Infinity IL30
Center -Infinity Entra Center
Surround -Infinity SM-65
Subwoofer -None yet, but will probably get the IL-120

Strength:

Incredible Imaging, crystal clear sound, nice tight accurate bass, And of course Value,

Weakness:

not very efficeint, but to be expected from such a heavy driver,

First off I must say I work at Circuit City, in the audio dept. I'm not supposed to put down the other speaker companies like polk, Bose, and all that other junk, but The new Infinity Interlude speaker line are the best speakers, We now carry. When we got the first of them in the store, we got the IL10's I was amazed we pushed them and pushed them, virtually distortion free, and they never bottomed out, well I took advantage of the Infinity accomadation form for Circuit City Employees, So what I did was I purchased a pair of IL40's for my fronts, a pair of IL30's for my rears, the IL25c center channel, and the IL100s 500 watt powered sub. Your probably gonna cry, but I got them all for a mear $1000 dollars. All the speakers out preform anything I've ever heard in that price range. I cannot comment on the subwoofer, for I have not received it yet. The IL40's have incredible imaging, of course you need good speaker wire to witness thier true performance. I have Monster Z3 reference wire to my 40's and MC 500 to the rest. currently I have the Onkyo 676 powering them, which has plently of power, but I will soon upgrade to the Onkyo 777, in any case the infinity interlude speaker line are well worth however much money you spend on them, they are some of the finest speakers I've heard
