Strength:
Easily purchased at Circuit City, sexy looking, video shielded, small footprint, good vocal reproduction.
Weakness:
Bass is not enough for HT on its own, Retail Price a tad high $999pr, not true high end detail and resolution Infinity is trying to rebuild its name by offering higher end products these days. THe most affordable being the Interlude Series. THe IL 40 is the mid floor stander in the series. The higher priced models come with a built in subwoofer and are much more expensive. Similar Products Used: competing brands, Polk RT series, JBL S series, Klipsch Synergy and Reference series, Paradigm Monitor series. |

Strength:
Excellent mid range and high end clarity and seperation. Vocal reproduction is superb, and it is almost impossible to find a dead spot in my living room. Also like t he slim design aspect from the front of the speaker. They are very nice pieces if furniture as well as excellent speakers.I went to numerous showrooms listening to speakers and comparing prices, and I kept coming back to the Infinities. For the price, they were the best I heard, by far.
Weakness:
A bit weak in the bass response, and had some sibillance right out of the box. It seems these speakers take some breaking in because they sound better now that I've got a few hours on them. Strongly suggest you invest in an IL100 subwoofer to round out the bass. For the audiophile on a budget with a smaller room for listening, these speakers are hard to beat. |

Strength:
awesome high's, these speakers really rock, you want to hear a missle in your living room. these are the one's
Weakness:
Price, ya who really want to pay a $1000 bucks for speakers, trip to Hawaii, no problem, but speakers!!!! I purchased polks at first because of the promotion they were having with there subwoofers. I ended up with the dual firing 650 with dual 10's as a subwoofer, but the 800's just were not the answer to an audiophiles delight. The answer in my dollar range was the infinity IL40. They completely blew the competition away. They are better speakers out there I am sure, but If I never hear them I will be perfectly happy. These are worth every penny. Strength:
Great full range sound from mids to lows. the highs are not too bright like other similarly priced speakers
Weakness:
break in period of around 75 hours i have sold audio/video electronics for almost five years, at best buy and circuit city and the new infinity line up is the best i have heard so far. Infinitys new cmmd technology is very impressive. When i compare the new il series to the older overture series (which were the benchmark speaker of the time) you can tell an immediate difference in clarity. I would recomend these speakers to anyone looking for a pair in the $1,000 range. the other speaker i was considering was the polk rt800i. i like the sound of the polks, except they are a little too bright for myy taste. Strength:
Crisp, clean, clear highs and mids. Speakers can handle lots of power, variety of models to match drivers for home theater.
Weakness:
No deep bass, craftsmanship of speaker box should be made with more precision (I think it's mass produced). Break-in time from 70-100 hours based on my experience. Right out of the box these speakers are so tight that you may think twice about them, but give them time to break-in (at least 70 hours) and lots of power and you'll experience these speakers come to life. You'll hear the difference, hour after hour during the break-in period, but you"ll need to be patient. Use digital audio not analog and you can't go wrong. These speakers need to be used with a powered subwoofer for the low end sounds, so if your listening room is rather small these speakers are not for you, being that a subwoofer also needs its floor space, buy towers with built-in powered subs. Also bi-wiring is a must to get the full potential from these speakers. Great speakers for the money, but you'll need a powerful amp/reciever to drive them and more money for a powered sub (preferrably a 15" sub or larger). Similar Products Used: Paradigm Studio's |

Anything was better than what I had!
Weakness:
So far.... none When I moved into my first apartment my father "graciously" gave me his old pair of Fisher speakers with 10" woofers. "These things rock!" He said. So, when he left and went home I went driving around Tampa and saw a "Moving Sale" at CC. I pulled in and the store was empty. The IL40's were sitting in the corner, gleaming... wanting to be played. The price on them was $540 each dropped down to $440 each. Hmmmm... I talked them down to $330 each and was out the door with 'em! Went back a few hours later and picked up the Velodyne 12" sub. Oh.... My.... God!! I've got the Sony 1045 receiver, Sony 9K DVD, Pioneer laser disk and a standard Sony HI-FI VCR. I upgraded all of my wires to the latest and greatest. My only drawback is I'm pushing a crappy 3 piece surround sound set by Sony. Center and two surround. I'm thinking about getting the IL10's for the surround... ooooh.... Movies sound good. Bass is a little week... but the Velodyne totally makes up for it! Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Crisp clean mids, highs. Clean bass response. Excellent voice reproduction. Bi-wiring option.
Weakness:
Kind of flimsy grill. No adjustable active crossover. When I went shopping for a set of new primary speakers for my home theater setup, I listened to Bose, Sony, Polk, JBL(infinity)...all the local top brands. The thing that sold me on the IL40's was the clean and true sound reproduction. I wanted a set of speakers that would perform well for both home theater and music. After listening to several music demo's, the IL40's separated sounds clearly and distinctly. Whenever I listened to the music demos I had, I could hear details like the fret slides on a guitar separated from the vocals...or a vocalists breath on the mic from the drums...these were all details that were kinda lost in all the other speakers I had demo'd. I'm sure all of the IL40 owners can relate to what i'm taking about. The one thing the IL40 does best is reproduce sound as originally mastered, so if you pick up a pair of these, do not be disappointed when all of a sudden some of your fav. music CD's sound lousy and others sound incredibly clear and lifelike. By the way.. I'm powering the system with a Yamaha AV 500W receiver and the IL40s handle everybit (my receivers auto cooling fans and circuit protection long before the IL40's distort) For the money, I think these are the best sounding speakers in their class. Definitely worth a look if your in the market. Similar Products Used: Boston Acoustics, Sony, Bose |
