Strength:

High Volume, somewhat wife friendly, high build quality on rear panel, price on ubid

Weakness:

large, a little bright

w always wait a while before I make a review, so after 4 months, here we go. These speakers are phenomenal for the price I paid. Granted I have always loved large speakers (JBL CF150s, DCM Timewindows) but for volume it takes a large speaker. These speakers are bright, and to me that is their only flaw besides the manual (it sucks). I have an Infinity HPS-1000 sub (got from UBID) and barely ever turn it on. The sub packs plenty of punch except for maybe action and sci fi flicks. My wife even likes the speakers, not the size but the maple finish. If you have a large room and like large sound by all means by them. My friend got the Klipsch RP-5s and I personally think the IL60s are more traditional sounding (not big on the horns). My system: HK AVR85 four years and I still love it Onkyo Eq35 old school Sony DVPS735 Sony CDPCX200 Infinity IL60s Infinity IL36 almost too big Infinity HPS1000 Infinity IL10s Monster Cable throughout

Strength:

Clarity, cost vs. value, overall box construction, excellent electronics, acceptable design, audiophile entry system, realistic performance

Weakness:

heavy and cumbersome for experimentation, careful placement, not for all listening areas, very transparent (yes, this is a weakness that reveals the rest of your system!)

What did I find in IL60's?
If there is a bottom line to the relative way people describe speakers is that it all depends on how your ears perceive issues like "clarity", "transparency" and the like given the equipment you use and the mood of the moment. All is relative, I have found and the more money you spend the more you are not allowed to dispute the absolute fidelity and value of the product you have just bought.

Who should buy IL 60's?
If I need to describe my current situation I would need a decent speaker that can strike a ballance between cost, availability (you can find it in major retail chains) and current loudspeaker research. I found that given the money, time and available systems around me for now, these speakers are a perfect candidate.

Who should not buy it?
Those who attach cost to quality.
Of course I could start spending the thousands of dollars to "simulate" what audiophile reviewers have elaborately described in their reviews, but isn't our world filled with simulations? I mean, grasp what you can afford and what you think you need and forget the rest. IL 60's will be a very good and adaptable pal to your acoustic journeys. Feel no "guilt" in chosing a "non audiophile" product like IL60's. Just enjoy the musicality and joy a musical instance creates. Be thankful for a product that gives you a glimpse of how music should sound at an affordable price.

Strength:

bass optimization, mids, highs 500 watt subwoofer amps.

Weakness:

heavy

Excellent overall sound. Close your eyes and you don't hear speakers, only music. I hear things on my CD's that I never heard before. DVD's are amazing. Warm, very well balanced sound even at low volumes. Bass optimization gives you great tight bass. I am using a Marantz SR8000 receiver to drive them.

Compared to similar Klipsch, Polk, These are pricey but the sound blew me away. Infinity IL50's are excellent too for less money.

Strength:

Theese speakers are well rounded, bright and very smooth also easy to set up and adjust. The placement and adjustment to the subs is very important as it makes a huge difference. Nice looking speaker. They actually saves on room if you previously had a separate powered sub. Anyone who gives theese speakers a less than very good mark on performance obviously has defects or other equipment problems.

Weakness:

Heavy , but well worth the weight! You have to consider they each have a 12" powered sub. If they were any lighter they would tip themselves over from the impact of the tight bass.

All I can say is I have paid more for a lot less speaker. Although I paid well under retail I think they are worth much more! I can't say that about many things. There are a lot of speakers that cost much more than theese even at retail prices that I would not trade.

Strength:

Sound great , look great

Weakness:

Need careful positioning and bass control

These speakers were replacements from Infinity who couldn't supply parts for my Overture 3's. I would rate them above the O 3's but would not part with $3000 for them. Stereo performance with my small Sugden amp is impressive although I had to experiment with positioning - not fun as these are heavy speakers. Incredible detail can be heard, particularly on live ond accoustic albums. Have them teamed up with the IL36 front channel for home theater and I've never heard better. This is where the bass is most effective but I find the setting has to be changed when switching between movies and music.
These speakers will perform best with top quality separates and cables in a large room. Your system won't outgrow these speakers as they have huge potential. I intend to upgrade my home theatre receiver to the Denon 5800 and improve the cables to get more out of the speakers. Watch out for the Neighbours, these speakers are loud and throw the flimsy grills away as they spoil the looks.

Strength:

Great low end. Clear mids. Zero distortion. Very sharp looks.

Weakness:

Weight, size. Not easy to move around. R.A.B.O.S. system not as dramatic as hyped.

These are some great speakers that effortlessly reproduce what ever I've got in the CD player. One thing that suprised me was that the RABOS system didn't do as much to the sound as I had thought. Maybe this is because of the room I've got the speakers (which is tiny for the time being), or maybe I've gotta fool with it some more.
The sound that comes out of these speakers is incredibly full. When I've got it at a comfortable listening level, I can still hear it all through the house, and the subs rattle everything in my room when the bass hits. I pick up detail in recordings that I had not heard previously which is amazing. Overall, excellent set of speakers!

Strength:

This is a response to Roberto down below....

Weakness:

None

In response to Roberto's claim that alot of "refurbished" or "B" stock has been sold due to a wiring problem is false. I have written and spoken to more than 5 people at Infinity who claim they have checked with everyone and that no such thing has happened!

Sooo think twice before playing with the wires in your speakers!!!

Beautiful highs, great mids, and very strong bass!!

Weakness:

The feet/base.... looks weird and is not strong....

These speakers are totally awesome in every aspect! More bass than anyone could ever want.... and the most beautiful highs and mids I have ever heard! You can hear every guitar string as it is picked!!! These are perfection to my ears! The only negative is the feet.... one of mine came with the feet broken... but was no problem to get it replaced! These speakers will blow you away!

Strength:

Solid Bass, and better if you use the RABOS system and program the bass response for your especific area.

Weakness:

Iam a electronics designer and I open amplifier part to take a look and I found that infinity has an error in the design of the croosover circuit, they place inverse the + and - signs on the crossover board and, in the assembly line they connect the midrange and tweeter polarity inverse, the woofer and subwoofer are correct. I correct the error and the mids and highs sound better.

To check if your system has this error open the amp section look for the crossover board if the M+ and T+ labels are connected to together in the board you have the same problem, the M- and T-should be conected together and the M+ and T+ separated.
I think infinty found this problem after they were assemble and because I was too expensive to open and fix each spkr they sold the speaker as refurbished or a low price.

Good System for the price paid, The problem I found is easy to fix. Is very good with the IL-36 central after I fix the IL-60 croosover, I have the RS-10 and this ones are a lot better in the bass response and overall.
The electronics inside the spkr are very good quality.
