Strength:

Very Compact Speaker, Nice Appearance, excellent sound quality.

Weakness:

A little bit expensive if you paid the original $350 price

An excellent speaker for a decent price. This model is widely available as an overstock last season's model. That is what makes it a steal. The silk dome tweeter seems to produce very nice and crisp highs and the 6 1/2 woofer doesn't do too bad either.

If you do not have a lot of space for front speakers, using RS-3's as you main and a subwoofer for all the bass will do pretty nicely. As long as you make sure the RS-3's are placed on speaker stands so that the tweeters are about at ear level. Overall, the RS-3's seem to be more efficient than their 89 dB sensitivity rating would suggest. For their most recent price (under $200) it would be hard to beat these in terms of both sonics and appearance.

One last thing to note, while these speakers are attractive, their plastic, rather than fabric covered front grills, as well as the grey woofer (visible through the grill) may make it hard to match other non-RS Infinity speakers with them. (Especially the new Infinity line). But if you don't care that much about precicely matched asthetics or can find matching RS series speakers for home theater, this is definiately a speaker worth considering!

Strength:

Clear highs and mids

Weakness:

Bass

Just went to CC to decide on a pair of speakers for my family room. Tried Bose, Polk, JBL and none even came close to these speakers. These speakers amazingly filled up the room with clear mid and highs. I was very pleased with the demo speakers, so I placed my order with www.mercata.com. You can not beat the price there for $195.00/pr included shipping. If you are a first time buyer at mercata they will even give a $50 credit towards your purchase!!. For the price range, these speakers perform the best!! I give it a very happy high 5!!

Strength:

excelent lows

Picked these up online, was a litle worried about getting them before listening to them, but with all the positive reviews here i thought it would be a fair risk to take. I'm glad i took the risk becuease the RS3's are a great pair of speakers, these really made a improvement to the sound of my reciever (sherwood/newcastle 925) and the sound is has far more range than my ald JBL's.

a Casual Listener

I know that most of you probably will not read the review of a casual listener, but I must say that since I purchased my stero equip., I have learned alot about the field. My fronts are Polk RT600's with the Polk Centre that came with (A great deal by the way!). I use the Infinitys as the rears, but with my disgrace of an Amp, JVC, I was not entirely impressed with the RS3s. One day however, I took ONE of the RS3s over to a friend's room who has a Yamaha amp and a Marantz CD player, (I got a 200 disc changer also JVC, what can I say, I dont know the business yet) and with only 1 RS3 I was blown away. My jaw hit the floor when I heard wehat this little baby could do. I almost want to cry when I think of the potential of these things. I also picked them up on sale for $150 at a Household department store call 'America.' It is out in the midwest, Iowa, Minnesota, ect ect. For $75 a speaker, you cannot go wrong. I give it a 4 only because I am not qualified enough to really say that these are perfect speakers. ROCK ON!!!

Tried them at Circuit City with friend. Also compared them with Bose and JBL. They sounded great in CC's sound room. I have not bought them yet. Still thinking between "RS3 for Front, RS1 for surround, CC1 for Center and BU1 for Sub" or "Energy Take 5"... As far as I tested RS3, I give them 4 stars.PS. If you have any comment about Infinity or Energy, please email me.

Strength:

Very natural sound especially vocals/guitar, great bass. Clear details. Enjoyable to listen to. Very musical.

Weakness:

do not recommend for symphonic music

Thanks to the reviews found here, I went ahead and purchased these speakers at http://www.ubid.com. ($150 includes shipping). Must have been left over stock from Infinity. I also had a friend who owned Infinity speakers years ago and they sounded great! I am very pleased with these "bookshelf" speakers. They are very natural sounding especially vocals and guitars. Plenty of bass. I agree with a post that stated they don't lend themselves to symphonic recordings which I don't listen to much. Since our family room is fairly small, they sound like larger speakers. Bass is awesome esp. placed in room corners at 45 degrees. Enjoyable to listen to. Very musical. Sound good cranked as well as quiet.

Strength:

Price, mid range.

Weakness:

Not the most efficient speaker on the market, prone to distortion - especially when used for home theater applications, lack clarity on highs, require a sub to capture lows, cheap grill.

Picked these up on closeout of the model some time ago to upgrade Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers. At the time, I was amazed at how these were much more crisp and clearer than the Bostons. As an initial foray into home theater, they left something to be desired constantly distorting; however, at the pricepoint, one cannot complain too much, especially for mass produced speakers.

Have since upgraded to a Klipsch system and not looked back.

Strength:

Amazing mids, good highs, good bass

Weakness:

On certain bass can sound a little strange. Maybe not be speakers fault. As noted by another reviewer highs are a bit bright at first.

I have not heard a whole lot of bookshelf speakers to be honest, but in general they tend to produce sound that is "smaller" than there main speaker counterpart. This is true with the RS-3 when comparing them to their cousin RS-5 which I also own. But the bass most of the time is surprisingly well rounded for a small speaker. The mids are definetly the strongest part, as they sound about as good as an RS-5. The highs are a bit bright, but quite clear and clean. I'm hoping the silk dome tweeter softens up after a bit. Anyways there a solid speaker, with really CLEAR sound and CLEAN also. They sound bigger than they are. Anyways a value of 5 for sure, and an overall of 4 is what they deserve. Good multi-purpose speaker for home theater or music. It is pretty well rounded.
