Strength:
All the punch, power and crispness you'll ever want or need. Truly the last speakers you will ever need or buy. I haven't HEARD anything that has all of the above qualities in any one speaker
Weakness:
If they are too heavy, just use a padded dolly and some bungy cords. The infinity SM/155 speakers are by far the best speakers I've ever heard or owned. At first, I thought they were a little overpriced considering I found them at a pawn shop, but when I shopped around finding even other Infinity speakers much smaller, less power and obviously more expensive I rushed back right before closing time and SNAG! I don't know what the person who pawned them was thinking, but I sure benifitted from their mifortune. These speakers sure are heavy (weighing 72.5 lbs.),but well worth every lb.The 15" woofer provides roaring low ends that really enhances drum and bass guitar sounds on CD's I thought I had burned out on listening to. The two mid-range drivers provide all the warmth and clarity that most people are listening for in a speaker. The high end tweeter is no slacker either. I don't know what to say about it,but to the others reading and writing reviews that are using these excellent speakers for home theater, just listen to on DVD,Pearl Harbor scene #21 in DTS and take note of the awesome clarity and detail between the highs and lows as well as the crispness in the panning effects.Another one to try is Die Another Day in DTS.You will totally amaze your friends showing off these beauties.I especially love listening to these speakers in just two channel stereo. My only complaint is that I can't find another pair to match my rear channels. If you ever run into these speakers, you better beg, borrow or steal to get them. You won't be disappointed. Similar Products Used: JBL MR Series,Sunn,Kenwood,Fischer,JVC,Peavey,Sony. You name it and I've probably at least listened to them. |

Weakness:
they are heavy to move around because they are so big.(but that aint so bad) The most awesome speakers ive ever owned, handle subsonics like a dream and make the house shake,i will never ever sell these monitors. Similar Products Used: nothing comparible |

best speaker i have owned started my present system in 98 with just the infinitys and built my system around them now there are 19 components staked to the roof need another cabinet
Weakness:
x-over pots i've had these speakers since 98 and there amazing great frequency response and very efficient 102 db at 1 watt i use them with two carver a-500x amps at 800w rms after time the pots started to fail from dust so i soldered a bridge to bypass the control now with a fixed x-over thay sound better then when they were new i have blown out the woofers and the midranges many times i have replaced them with original drivers every time also i use a yamaha cx-2 preamp what a combo!!!! i use a 250v 2.5 amp fuse between my amp and the speakers not as many blown drivers sounds like surround sound with 2 speakers Similar Products Used: sm-112 |

Strength:
Clarity and high SPL without distortion. Also plays very clear at very low volume-levels (like when I'm trying to fall asleep).
Weakness:
Size and availability. I find myself listening to music I don't even like because I am amazed with the clarity of the speakers with all types of music. This is actually a review of SM150 with one 6.5" midtone vs dual 5.25" midtones of the SM155. I bought this pair brand new, even though this is an outdated model. At first I used them with a 6 year old JVC dolby prologic receiver, two 1978 SEAS rear speakers (3-way with 10" bass) and a AudioPro Stage 47 centerspeaker. The SM150's played very loud and clear, but didn't match the rest of the surroundspeakers. In January I replaced the receiver to my current JVC RX-DP10RSL wich features 7 channels w/120W @ 8ohm each. To try to fix the mismatched sound, I tried to buy a second pair of SM150, with no luck. I bought a pair of equally priced Infinity Reference 6.1mkII (3-way dual 8" woofers) for use as rear speakers. When I came home with the 6.1's, I discovered that they didn't match my SM150's. It did however match the AudioPro center. I then bought a second pair of 6.1's for use with movies. When watching movies I don't use the SM150's :(, but when playing music, I only use the SM150's. SM150's vs Reference 6.1mkII's The 6.1 have more bass, but not as deep. The SM150 have superior treble and midtone. They sound a lot more natural. Near perfect clarity. The 6.1's sound like a small system with boosted bass and reduced treble/midtone, and a lack of SUB. The SM150's have near perfect sound from wisper quiet to disco listening levels, without the lack of a subwoofer. I might buy a subwoofer for use with the 6.1's in "movie mode", but not for the SM150's. The Referece 6.1mkII would only get 3 stars from a hifi point of view. However for movies i'd give it 4 stars. They sound very good for movies, but lack the deepest SUB. If you find a pair of SM150 or the similar (and newer SM155), buy them before someone else do. Similar Products Used: 2-pairs of Infinity Reference 6.1mkII, JVC RX-DP10RSL and AudioPro Stage 47 center. (I don't remeber the model of my previous JVC amp, but it did have 3x60W + 2x15W @ 8 ohms.) |

Strength:
sound is great with music AND movies clear highs and solid lows
Weakness:
none so far I remember looking for these speakers for several months in town. When I finally found them in a home theatre store the salesman was like " you want what?, yuk". They had them in the back of their warehouse behind the store. They were the last pair, I think. I literally went in there, asked for them, finished the sale and walked out- all in a matter of 5 minutes. I purchased the pair for $299 and had originally retailed for $1000. Their salesman was tring to pursuade me into some $1200 speakers that I had no intrest in at all. I actually remember tring to hurry up the sale thinking the manager might check the price. I''''ve had them now for about 4 years and they still sound awesome. I have the 2000.1 ref. for surrounds and a Sonus Faber center, all connected to my Denon 3300 reciever and I couldn''''t ask for a nicer sound. I don''''t have a sub. and don''''t think I need one, yet. |

Bought a used pair of these beauties for DM 700 (US $ 300) through e-bay Germany after reading the summaries posted here. When I hooked them up to my amp (Yamaha AX 592) and popped in the first CD (Kraftwerk's Techno Pop) it nearly blew me away. These are by far the most efficient and crisp-sounding speakers I've ever experienced... |

Strength:
Awesome sound for home stereo or front speakers in a surrond sound system
Weakness:
I have too much power and the protection circuitry will cut then off The Infinity SM 155's are perhaps the best speaker for the money on the market. Combined with my Onkyo receiver which produces nearly 130 watts per channel x 5, these speakers will rock your balls off. I also have 2 Infinity 12" subs. This system is more than anyone needs. From Social Distortion to any DVD, this system explodes. I have listened to much more expensive systems costing thousands more and I cannot notice the difference. I have 4 SM 155's as front speakers and cannot turn my receiver over 6 and stay in the same room. I live on an acre and my neighbors say it sounds clear in their house. I need four more if anyone can help me out! Similar Products Used: Name it, I've listened to it |

If anyone can tell me where I can find a pair of these -PLEASE let me know...i'm not interested in spending the 800+ for the sm-255's when theses are just as good and half the price...i own a pair of the sm-105's and i love them...only I have to add a 12'' sub for sufficient bass- looking to change that...thanks for any information.. |

I have these speakers and use them in my "second" audio room. They are very efficient (102dB spl)and can produce thunderous bass. For the money ($700.00 a pair), you can't buy a better speaker. |

Strength:
Everything from sound to styling
Weakness:
None I purchased a pair of these in 1984 and have kept them this whole time ... and will NEVER get rid of them. They are awesome speakers. Clear strong sound at all ranges. Just awesome bass. I have them hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V870 receiver (which I love as well) in a home theater setup. For music, these speakers rock. For DVDs, these speakers rock. They are big and heavy, but hey, that's why they sound so friggin' good. You have to spend at least $2000 on a set of speakers today to even come close to these bad boys. And I haven't heard that many $2000 setups that compare to my 155s! If you ever have a chance to get a pair, I recommend it highly. |
