Strength:

loud very loud excellent bass....good clarity crisp sound

Weakness:

If you not careful your may damage the tweeters and or midrange if you play them with a low power amp..

In my opinion when it comes to price and quality speaker Infinity SM series are number one for me. But you definitely need to have a high quality amplifier like Denon or Carver don't need to spend too much and equipment you can even play this speakers even with a Walkman...but don't play them too loud ....You need to make sure that the amplifier has in internal cooling fan otherwise you will burn the speaker....I use the set of speaker SM 250 back in 1989 and SM 125 It sounds funny but I first used them for personal home use then I realize that, there power were more than i spec it..so i decide to used them as DJ speaker and when to private party's and then when some one ask me to go to a large dance floor I was afraid of the speakers performance. I though that weren't gonna sound to loud in that room...But incredibly they sound awesome with the acoustic of the room and the quality amplifier I used ( Denon 2800 ) If IM not wrong. Everybody in the room where impress with the set of speakers...they even ask me if those where the only speakers I was using .....All I said is YES....

I bought the 255s mostly because of the high SPL level (103db) and the 15" woofer, I'm am using them for both audio and home theater listening, when I get the room they will only be used for HT. (going "highend sometime) This home theater stuff can really take up space! They sound very nice, the highs are almost too bright, the low end is also quite nice. I give them a 4 for sound and a 5 for cost.

i recently purchased a pair of these speakers out of curiosity. i wanted to know how good such a large speaker could sound. i am a budding audiophile and at only twenty years of age i am not ready for small boxes that are perched upon skinny stands. i want something that can rearange the furniture! and with nothing on the market coming close to the size/price range of these speakers i got them and haven't looked at anything as being as good since. they do indeed rearange the living room and in some moments of weekness they have aranged the neighbor's funiture too! all things considered, there are MANY more accurate speakers on the market. many tiny boxes that have a deeper sound field or a better tonal balance, but screw that. i like saying "15 inch woofer" and enjoy feeling their effects on a daily basis. they get all stars in my book!

they kick A$$. good for disturbing your neighbors. im so glad i got these speakers. i was using some bose 301's for fronts before i got these, and the infinitys sound a lot better. the bose have a really bright sound to them. i was really dissatisfied with the amount of bass they put out. and they are picky about where you put them. i use them for surround now. i am very happy with the way the infinitys sound. very tight bass and accurate highs. these things shake the house. i use them both audio and home theatre and they are great. i couldnt of found a better speaker for even near the price.

Strength:

Perfect, balanced sound. Nice design. Very rigid,so doesn't flutter.

Weakness:

You must have place for these...

I listen to almost every kind of music there is: Starting with classics, opera etc, through rock and popular music ending with heavy metal.
These speakers can have them all. They are very accurate, never flutter. The bass are real bass, the highs are clean and bright (and adjustable), and the midrange are just the level they should.
I have never heard such speakers, even much more expensive then these.
When I had been looking for speakers, I got into a shop offering these high slim speakers which are very fashion now days, and the sales-man told me "these (the slim ones, R.J) can't compete with 15" woofers..." He was right.

The only problem with the SM255 is the size. They looks nice but they are BIG. I solved the problem with a good carpenter building a new living room bar, containing a special places for the speakers.

I saw these on U-bid going for 149.00....so I couldnt resist. The picture did not brace me for the size of these babies..they are massive. The UPS driver was complaining about them from the time he pulled up until he left.
The JBLS's I was using had good base with the 10 inch woofer, but these have awesome bass, nice mids and good highs. Im running them on a Onkyo 676 Receiver...Ive been using some JBL SVA 1600 rear speakers. Very awesome HT. This was the best deal I ever got off U-bid and I would pay twice that now that I heard them

Strength:

Tight bass, high sensitivity. Good for movies.

Weakness:

Bright highs, forward midrange, no deep bass.

I bought these on ubid because I wanted something with more bass than my Overture 1's and I remembered how good my ex-girlfriend's dad's older SM speakers sounded. What a mistake I made. The tweeter is extremely bright, even with the tweeter control all the way down. The midrange is completely exagerated and has a very noticeable sibilance problem, and their is a complete lack of deep bass. The sound is fatiguing even at moderate volumes. The only way to tame them is by playing records or extremely good recordings. They are very good for most movies because of their mid and upper bass. My reciever is a HK AVR 45 which maybe doesn't have the power to push these properly, I guess. I had better luck with a Sony (because of the parametric eq). Even though I'm only 19, I guess my tastes are becoming more refined. I should have just bought a good subwoofer.
