Strength:
Great all around speakers - very balanced even at higher volumes although a decent EQ is recommended for if you run from Gene Krupa to 2PAC .. or a decnet tube amp - I ran mine with a Sherwood 8910 until my roomate spilled a full keg beer into it ...then a simple 2 channel Pioneer .. Was always happy with these speakers and now run them only for TV/Movies Weakness:
High end is fragile - Horns are susceptible to blowing out .. Best buy sold me on the warranty although only for one of the 2 speakers and I had no idea.. So I've only had one repaired which is why I now use them in a 7.1 theater system. And now JBL has discontinued the horn replacement as well.. Price Paid: 189.99 PR

very varied. can handle all types of music with great care and depth. twiter is just amazing.
Weakness:
price i paid back in 2000 was infact fairly high. but here everything costs a bungle. but id pay it again gladly.. :) iv had these speakers for quite some time. and i recently changed a few things in my system. i took home a pioneer elite 45 tx; and a asw b&w subwoofer [10 inch]. the jbl speakers seem to be of timeless ability. they put in the dark a lot of rather new and chic speakers. the small but rather wide sound spread coming from the twiter enables the music to fly across the room with ease and smoothness. with a sub or without, these speakers are something else, and almost anyone who listens to them is amazed by them. simply fantastic. if you can find a pare of these, dont ever sell them. they are Priceless. Strength:
Nice mid-range and wide dispersion of treble. Very musical. Pleasant to listen to. Quite efficient.
Weakness:
No really deep bass (surprise, surprise). Not very high quality exterior finish materiel and grill cloth. I never had any JBLs before and got these as a result of reading the very favorable AUDIO review of the 610s that these are the mini-tower version of...and the nice price, of course. JBL620's are getting hard to find. Out of 34 websites advertising audio equipment only 2 still had them. Got mine at Best Buy in Missoula for $120 each on clearance. Sorry, last pair there. Also got HLS610's there on clearance for 120/pair. Still a few left a week ago. |

Solid Bass, great price, vibrant sounds, LOVE THE HORNS!
Weakness:
Grills/Speaker Cabinet I practically stole these from Best Buy this weekend. $89/each with a 9 year warranty. I have these bad boys hooked up to 120 watts and they rock! The midbass/midrage sounds wonderful with the dual 6.5s and the horn tweet makes music sound more vibrant and improves the imaging. The soundstage with the 620s is awesome. After listening carefully to both the HLS 620's and 820's, I chose the 620's. Here's why: The base tones on the 820's are not really THAT much better. And the 820's tend to resonate a bit too much, thus losing the effect of realistic instrumentation. The midrange and highs on the 620's are actually crisper and clearer. I attribute that to the 6 1/2 inch speakers vs. the 820's 8 inch. To my ear, the 620's are also better than anything else in a comparably priced floorstanding, or for that matter bookshelf speaker. As they say, it's the box that produces the effect. Never more true than in the case of these 620's. Seriously, after listening to Infinity, Yamaha, Sony, and Polk - all within $300 of the price (I paid $200 ea.), the 620's are a superior sounding product. |

I bought a pair of HLS 620 about 6 months ago for $250 + $40 (per pair) shipping from shopping.com. 1 month later it is selling for $299 per pair. However, I think it is still a great deal. Best Buy is selling at $399. This JBL speaker is great, produce good bass, moderate clarity. However, compare to Polk 400 , I think HLS 620 does a much better job with quality and the price that we pay. I have a HK AVR 75 to boost the speakers and it produce excellent bass with good clarity sound. HLS 620 is definite a good speaker to get. Compare to Polk Audio(Rt400, Rt600), Infinity (R5,R6) I definetely will pick HLS 620. However compare among the HLS series (HLS 615, HLS 620, HLS 820 : tower speakers). The HLS 620 produce the best all around sound. HLS 615 just do not have the power or ummmpp. HLS 820 produce too much bass and the clarity is well off . |

I purchased a set of the HLS 620s from Consumer Direct for $279.pr and these are very good speakers. I had listened to the Infinity rs5 and a set of Yamaha with side firing 12" woofers and they didn't produce anymore bass than the JBL'sI think for the price the JBL's were just about impossible to beat. As some of the other reviews had said the HLS 820's just don't seem to have as tight a bass. They seem to resonate longer than the 620's. |

I listened to every speaker I could find under $500 and finally settled on the 620s. I found that the 620s sounded cleaner than other speakers selling for much more. If your looking for alot of strong bass they may not be for you, but if your looking for a good speaker that wont break you give them a listen. These JBLs are proof that you don't have spend alot of money to have great sound. |
