Strength:
I picked up a pair of L100t that had the crossovers upgraded to T3. The woofers and the tweeters have had their surrounds replaced. The low end is striking with tremendous depth and balance. It’s not overwhelming or boomy. It’s present. The top end is very smooth for a metal tweeter, but I’ve been told that it’s due to the new surrounds. The speaker is remarkable in it’s imaging, broad soundstage. It’s a delight to listen too. I just picked up a real pair of T3’s from some lady that thought hers were shot. I paid 250.00. I have an excellent JBL tech redo the woofers for me (Matt’s speaker repair West valley UT). He is a zen guru with JBL woofers. I recovered the grills, stripped the finish and years of crud. The cabinet is much smaller than my L100t. Interesting They sound beautiful. I’m using a Crown XLS1502 amp and wow, do they have a beautifully balanced sound. I did some mic measurements. They are remarkably flat. They had the best low end in the business. Timeless design Weakness:
Big and heavy. It does take up a bit of floor space. Price Paid: 800
Model Year: 1984

JBL L100t3s found on the street - relatively affluent suburb. Suspension rings shot. Took to a speaker fixer. Obviously had the suspension rings replaced. Went to pick up speakers from the speaker expert. Expert said "Hope you don't mind we have been listening to your speakers all day. The best pair of speakers we have heard for years." I said "Well thank you very much." Cost me about $100 to have the rings fixed." I have had big speakers for decades BUT I can say without any hesitation that these JBLs are simply the best speakers of their type ever made. They will not be sold at all. Felt guilty about picking up the speakers from the road after I realised just how good they were. I phoned the people who put them on the street to check that they did it on purpose. The lady said "No, me not want. Not work for me. Husband he not like. Not want, you keep." I thought - Thank You Lord. That was after the speaker fixer said "You'd have to pay about three grand nowadays to get such good speakers." Inside or outside these speakers perform brilliantly. Classic, country, ACDC - doesn't matter what type of music - just simply beautiful. If you find a set - you have found gold standard. River Tramp WA |

I bought a pair of L100t3 in 89 when they were new. I was an avid reader of Stereophile magazine at the time and these folks reviewed and listened to all speakers from low budget to thousands of dollars a pair. These guys raved and raved about the 100t3 and even said that they were becoming their favorite speakers. That was enough for me and I managed to get them from Circuit City for almost half offf MSRP .I put them on layaway and before I paid them off they had two lower sale prices and also had to give me 10% more each time. Anyway I came out of my chair when I fired these up through a Yamaha c70 m70 combo. These things handle everything you give them but take very little to bring them to life. Amazing. The separation and musicality is top notch. Bass is the best I have ever heard and clear right down to 30hz. The cabinets are low rate veneer but heavy and strong. My buddy gave me l100t cabinets which are more quality and I transfered over the components and the very important t3 crossover. The crossover upgrade from t to t3 is quite a step up. You simply can't go wrong with these and they can now be found for $500 a pair more or less. These will handle everything power wise and will shut your 200 wpc amp down to protection if you crank it but like I said they sound superb with just 1 watt. These are just as good or BETTER sounding that richy rich super high dollar speakers. Get a pair before they're all gone. You won't be sorry. |

There is already a section for the L100T, to which several people have commented on their T3's. I wanted to add a new section to differentiate between the two. While they are remarkably similar (same drivers, even), the T3 uses an updated crossover which is widely regarded to put the T3 ahead in terms of overall SQ. I would also like to add that I am not as versed in jargon as others may be, and hope that you geniuses from the audio forums will eventually add to this new product section!
