I know this sounds corny, but I fell in love with my JBL L3 speakers at first, uh, listen. I've auditioned quite a number of speakers over the past few months (Bose Acoust-o-Mass, Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble II, various JBL models, etc.), but have NEVER heard speakers as sweet as these. These speakers really kick. Killer bass, clear highs, nice mid tones. I am honestly picking up music off my CD's I've never heard before! If you've been dissatisfied in your quest for the perfect sub/sat speaker system (as I was), do yourself a favor and look at this loudspeaker system. One listen, and you may decide that you, too, have room for these skinny, floor-standing speakers.

Searched in vain to get affordable sound the likes of the Kef 104.2 of yore. Finally heard the L3's -- unimpressed when heard through a low powered Yamaha amp. However...feeding them through a Sumo Andromeda was impressive. Currently run them through a NAD 2400THX power amp and they sound absolutely fantastic. Only problem -- wish I had picked up another pair for the other room.

Strength:

Built to last attractive Hi End Sound

Weakness:

None

I use mine as surrounds. Believe me they would also make an excellent Main.Specs. 35HZ to 27KHZ impressive especially for a two way speaker with a 8 inch sub.Guaranteed to blow any surround speaker off the face of the earth.

Strength:

For the price, hard to beat. Very hardy......and they look beautiful.

Weakness:

The bass leaves you a little short.

I've compared it to $1800 speakers from Energy's top-of-the-line Veritas series......and they don't even come close. I'm in the hunt for speakers for a second system that I am creating and so I've been auditioning quite a few systems. My respect for these old war-horses grows every time I hear some of the overpriced nonsense that's out there. So much is made based on "name". Hook these up to a good amp or a receiver thats capable of driving 'em (>100 watts..continuously) and you'll get a very satisfying sound. Couple these to a reasonable sub and you'll be blown away.

These speakers are FANTASTIC. It took me about three days to run them in, but after that they just purrrrred. I was truely amazed at the sound these speakers were producing. Cranking up the volume and these speakers were completely in control with the music. My music was sounding more realistic not just loud. I threw a wide variety of music at these speakers hoping to trip them up. I used hard rock, jazz, blues, metal, techno, and orchestral music, and these speakers didn't even break a sweat. Finally kick drums sounded like real kick drums, acoustic guitars didn't sound like little banjo's anymore and voices were clear and full. I'd recommend connecting these speakers with a decent source and pre/power combination for best results (you can always play around with your cables later). Buy with complete confidence.
