I've had them a couple of weeks in my home, but was very fortunate that I could switch them for other speakers. They sound bad! They are to big for what they offer. The midranges are poor, the low not good. I have MB Quarts speakers now, they cost more, but they are so much better...
A relief that I could get them out of my livingroom!

I want to know what happened to the Older JBL's, which I think have a much better sound than the present ones. Why is this?, Am I wrong?.
I have a Pair of JBL's L-65(INCREDIBLE SOUND!!!) and also a pair of JBL's L-50(They're GREAT)and I've always compare them to the other brnds costing more than my JBL's, and the result (Even against the newer JBL's) is the same, mine always outperform(overall performance and clarity) the other(they only seem to lost a battle or two against the bass(only the low freq)of some hi-end speakers other).

I'm a JBL lover, but I became frustrated on JBL's product quality andit hurt my confidence a lot.
I bet most of the JBL user living near tropical region has a problem
on most of the JBL speakers. Its not the quality of sound that matter, its
the quality of the driver that made me pissed off.Imaging you have to
re-cone the driver because the "side lining"(don't know how to pronounce)
tends to "powderise" after approx. 3 years of listening.
This is my second pair of speaker to have this problem,I recommend one
to choose other durable "lining" before purchasing any speakers. If I'm not
wrong, almost every low cost JBL speakers have shared the same "lining"
material. So please migrate to cooler and low humidity country if you do not
want to consume to much "Panadol".

4 Stars for the sound,
Zero Stars for the built quality.

Product description: a big and black 3-way tower speakerwith a big and grey paper woofer, a cone midrange and
a titanium dome tweeter. About 100cm high, 30cm wide.
In production from 1992 to 1995 or so. Cost between
$700-1000/pair.

This is one of the biggest JBLs in their recent LX line,
designed and built in Europe. During the years I occasionally
listened to them on CD-based systems with Harman/Kardon
and Quad amplification. These LX-800s are pretty good
speakers in that they are neutral, bar a bit of hifi-
sheen in the midrange, with a detailed and open
treble. Stereo can be fine. Bass goes down to 40Hz or
so, so it doesn't rumble but rather gives an illusion
of a wide bandwidth. Bass also can be a bit lacking in
control, especially in small rooms.

If you want something big and loud, they are much much
better than they have right to. From an audiophile point
of view they are still pretty good, although they are
not entirely natural sounding, e.g. while my own Quads
'do not sound', these JBLs always are audibly present.

So, if they suit your application, they do deserve
4 stars.
