Sats can be mounted either on the wall or ceiling with the brackets supplied or it can be set to stand on a table, Bass is good on the Subs, crisp sound coming from the Sats.

Sats are weak, if you spread them too far out from each other.

I don't know why some people would say that the speakers are weak. First of all, you have to maximize the power of this unit. It is intended for a dormitory room or a adequate sized room. you cannot spread the sats too far out from each other, because they will not be effective. I was impressed by the bass coming from the Subs, the Sats are weak because they are not intended to overpower the Subs. I added an equalizer and a JBL Center and it rocks, believe me. Considering the price that I payed for it from UBID (100$), I am very, very happy with it.

I got these while I was in college and had them in my dorm room, then two apartments, followed by two rental houses and finally my house. Needless to say they were moved around a lot and their small size was great for this.

I am a bit of a treble junkie and have been known to bias my EQ in that direction - as a result I blew the tweets out of these things a couple times ( even though I never really cranked the volume up that high ) - JBL fixed them the first time and I did after that. When they blew the third time, I put them in a closet and went and bought some Polks.

Because of my particular taste for treble, I loved the sound from these speakers ( when they were not blown ). I used them mostly for music and some movies.

I suppose it was my fault that the speakers blew because I cranked up the treble, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth so am only giving 3 stars.

I bought JBL music 1 from UBID.com $86.00 plus
overcharged for shipping. I have so many speakers at
home including 4 receivers and 1 digital karaoke A/V
amplifier.

For me, I don't like JBL speaker instead of
Klipsch was my first choice. Here, I wanted to say
and believed that JBL music 1, the sound and the bass
were very good for music, movie and my taste.

I put 2 Sats together in the same corner of
my room. The bass was so pretty good if you don't
overpower them from your receiver. Also the sound
was so clear. I thought that it was Klipsch speaker.
Only thing I didn't like it was 2 SATS, a problem
for wires connetion.

I would like to give it 5 stars. Because it made
my receiver doing good job.

Crisp highs, good bass, small with low visibility

Midrange is not that great, connections are a bit different

I had these as my primary speakers for a while in a small room and they did ok. Now I've moved them to my rear surround in a larger room, and they are great for that. I have AR-318's in the front and a cheap Technics center channel (which I need to replace), and these JBL's compliment the AR's very well. For the money I paid, I have no complaints about these guys, but if I had paid the original retail price of $650, I would have been sorely disappointed.

Connection is a bit wierd

I paid $77.00 for this unit from UBID.COM (including S&H). It took a while for me to figure out how to connect these speakers together (2 subs + 2 sats). The fault could have been mine and not the product. My area is a little open so placing the speakers was no problem for me. I was expecting "something nice" out of these speakers but I was very pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. I would have been satisfied if I had paid $200.00 for them. I cranked up my Onkyo receiver and heard NO distortion just pure, sweet old school sound. I highly recommend this product. It has become the jewel of my sound system.

Too many pieces.

Put my review in perspective by the fact that I got them
for less than $80 for the set including shipping and handling from UBID.COM. UBID is charging substantially more for S/H now ($70) for the set (I paid $28 for the set).

Dislikes are that they come in five pieces with wires going from the receiver to the crossover then to the 4 speakers (2 sat + 2 woof).

The sound if clear and crisp and very very good for the size.

The set is in my study, and I think it is perfect for a small room (or apartment for that matter).

Clean, Crisp Sound

4 seperate speakers requires an odd setup.

I paid $100 for these speaker at a going out of business sale of Lechmere's (They were selling at the time for over $400)and hooked them up with an old radio shack amp in the basement. For TV and radio(voice)they are perfect, as a pure music speaker they might be alittle harsh. The base that is generated from the two seperate subwoofers is very good. The odd setup while a pain could be ideal if you wanted to hide the speakers in a room, the subwoofers can be placed anywhere(hidden) and the two speakers that have the midrange and tweeter are very small and could be mounted anywhere. I give them a 4 stars.

Harsh, tinny sound at any volume level. Distorts badly with fairly low power.

I bought these online for about $100 as refurbs. Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about them. The bass response was weak (didn't even reach 100Hz) and the midrange was overshadowed by a very harsh over-emphasized treble. I had to turn my system (Sony preamp, Rotel amp) bass control all the way up and the treble full in the opposite direction just to achieve listenable results. When I applied single frequency test tones the system produced a lot of harmonic distortion with less than 5 watts of power applied.

Even as cheap as they are I couldn't recommend them to anyone. The Coda 7's on the other hand although not perfect are an infinitely better deal for $100 that doesn't force you into the funky crossover and wiring of the Music 1's.

lots of wiring to run to four separate speakers...at high volumes mids leave me wanting some more

The highs and low are great and my only real complaint is with the mids. Can handle 80W rms per channel but anything beyond that lead the mids to distort. For the best base results I found that stacking the base modules on top of each other in a corner works best.
Not for everyone but if looking for more than a boombox but not quite a living room set up then this will work. Otherwise go with larger speakers.
