Strength:

Powerful bass, very clear sounds at both low and high volumes.

Weakness:

The plastic bass port comes loose every once in awhile, but this is a result of one of the strengths, POWERFUL bass. No fuses.

Can't say enough about these speakers. I have them hooked up to an Aiwa AV-D55 100x5 reciever. Might not sound like it's impressive, but trust me it's a good combination. If you can get a good deal (They're already inexpensive) these are highly recommended.

Strength:

Good bass and mids. high's are more than adequate

Weakness:

very big...but not very heavy. makes me wonder about the build quality

Very nice sounding. They sound MUCH better in my apartment then in BB. Has good tight bass however the high's could be a little clearer. DO NOT GET THIS SPEAKER IF YOU LIVE IN AN APARTMENT!!! I have these mated with a Pioneer VSX509S reciever. Also have a Velo CT120 with HLS 610's as surrounds. To say that it rocks would be a drastic understatement. My neighbor's were pounding within 10 min. of me having them on. There paintings and mirrors were shaking! I am going to be getting the N38's. Much smaller and i'm sure i will be able to enjoy them more.

All in all i was thouroughly pleased. Like with any product...audition at home.

GotSUB?

Strength:

* stylish
* super value
* solid performance

Weakness:

* none, as long as you got the right equipment to compliment them and run them right.

Beautiful speakers, with sound to match ... for the money. Keep in mind these are mid to low end speakers that will serve a conservative budget just right. Also, you can't always expect super low end bass from 10" drivers; so buy a sub. Some reviews talk about performance weaknesses; don't be a cheapazz expecting $250 speakers to totally blow you away, they should go find some high-end stuff. These are not meant to work alone if you have high expectations of a kickazz a/v system, so get a center and bookshelves/satellites. They are highly recommended.

Good Bass for 10's, good highs, go well with my S-Center, magnetically sheilded.

These JBL's are a great set of speakers. Best Buy sells these for 299.00 plus tax, EACH. I got mine for a total of $425 and that included shipping.

They replaced a set of 10 year old KLH 15 inch speakers like the ones you'd find at Best Buy today. The JBL's sound so much better and the four 10 inch speakers produce more bass than the KLH's two 15's. They are also much louder. Another thing I like is that I can place them next to the TV and they don't discolor it.

hen i wrote the review below i had these speakers hooked up to a Teac reciever. But after running them on a Sansui integrated amp i am not gonna dare hook these up to the teac it made the sound like small speakers and the highs and mids didnt jump out at me like they should. Upon hooking them uo to the sansui model # au-517 they were open and airy everything was soo much better. So it is a must for these speakers to be hooke up to a good amp. With as much CLEAN power that you can afford. Or at least a very good reciever. Now that i hae them hooked up to the sansui these speakers are incredible they sound 100% better than the KLH's i had. Bass is very good and highs are more than enough. These are a very good speaker which i highly reccomend as long as yu have the right equipment. The revoews below about not much bass...are you kiddiing me i dont even need my sub anymore these have better bass than that thing did. And go lower than 37hz. But as long asyou have the riht equipment remember. JBL souds like crap if you hook it up to crap. And also the binding posts are soo thick that regular spades dont fit around them. They are very thick! which is a good thing.

I would like to concur with Brandon. I have been in music for almost 30 years. As a general rule, JBL's like power. Lots of it. This goes for their mid, upper and pro-audio products. But, as Brandon correctly pointed out, it had better be CLEAN, low THD power. Or you will fry those tweeters.

In defense of one who said the tweeters were easy to fry, well, my experience with the JBL HLS series (now discontinued)showed the horns appeared to be the weak link. But again, this was with a crappy Pioneer VSX-509 unit. Zero to 100% THD real quick it seemed, in 5 channel mode. No headroom at all.

I ditched the Pioneer the first week I bought it, took it back, and bought an Onkyo TS-DX777, which is much cleaner and brawnier. No problems. I have the ND310's up front, HLS620 towers in the rear (new horns courtesy of JBL!) and the S-center. Kicks maximum butt. Clean, loud, and authoritative.

THX "reference level" fills my 22'x 25' den.

Have fun.

Strength:

Depth of the Bass!!! Don't put these in an apartment, your neighbors will hear nothing but THUMP THUMP THUMP! Sound is awesome on them.

Weakness:

Cones on them are flexible, so keep your covers on if ya have little kids around.

Love them, they pound hard, so if ya like having parties, crank em loud!

Strength:

Excellent sound and looks

Weakness:

None found, yet

Excellent sound for the money. No better way to say it, these things rock. I "torture-tested" them with a 250wpc MOS-FET amplifier that I built myself and with a pair of Dynaco Mark III tube amplifiers. They sounded beautiful with both amplifiers. The highs were smoother with the Mark III's and the bass had a lower bottom with the MOS-FET. The effect is almost undetectable, though.

Overall, excellent speakers, and will give excellent sound so long as a good amplifier is backing them.
