The Kef Q10s were a great little pair of speakers.

I had a Bose 301 Continental given to me and I went in search of a small amp to power it up. Went to PA at Aldephi and bought a chinese amp. The Monitor Audio Speakers were fantastic! That was the demo that convinced me. Went back to power up the Bose, boy... I can't even go slightly louder as the base would already be waking up the neighbours. Also, the vocals and lows sound a bit muffled.

The Kef's were on the market 2nd hand for a good price. Went to hear it and certainly the reviews were all accurate! its very crisp! It dosen't quite give a wrap around music quality as the Bose 301s but I could start hearing details if a little harsh for my liking but good to use for TV Sterios.

Pianos didn't exactly jump... I guess after the Monitor Audio treatment (RX1) everything else takes a backseat. I'm happy with these pair of speakers. Small and sharp.

Strength:

Bass. Tight but big.

Weakness:

Treble. Not what I'd call sparkling highs.

These bookshelf-size speakers have always sounded great on my Denon DRA-635 (80W) and then my Scott 350RL (40W) and now my Realistic STA-64 (25W). In my home theatre, the bass is tight and incredible for a speaker this size. I feel the bass more than at the Boston cinemas. Personally, I think the highs could be more accentuated.

Strength:

Nice clear sound with good base but detailed.

And don't expect these to shake your house like those sh*** cerwin vega stuff.

And they are very versitile, theyll go with any amp with out fail. But make sure its a good decent one. Like for starters a arcam alapha amp, or for main course roksan kandy, or rotel to get the juice out of them.

Weakness:

Bit weak sounding.

Very nice versitile speakers. They had a nice decent sound really, but on the other hand they can produce such good clarity and base from just a small speaker.
I have to admit they sound alot better than those fu***** bose 301 seriese v. Even the kefs body constuction AND SOUND!!!!!! is way better, NOT MADE OF CHEAP PLYWOOD SH**** LIIKE THOSE BOSE 301!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Strength:

High and middle

Weakness:

base

I have been listening for 4 years every night
mainly on classical music. The high is sweet and well mix
with the middle. Vocal is clear and detail enough
to hear when the singer breathe. Lo is well control
and is weak below 80hz. All special effects put out by the performer in HONE and SEXPHONE are clearly and naturally
reproduce with reasonable good sound stage. I keep upgrading the main speaker start from KEF10 to B&W801 now. Kef10 is the only pair I don't want to part. It is very
easy to drive by any Amplifer to produce good music.
Unlike B&W801 which take a lot more expensive equipment
to produce excellent hifi sound. KEF10 is like Honda Civic,
good musical speaker and excellent value. It deserve a
rate of 5.

Strength:

details, dynamics and trancient response, tonal balance and quality

Weakness:

none for its price and its size!!!

Small but terrible!!! And mind you they're not expensive. The best sounding speakers in its price range, in fact even double its price range. Heard the PSBs, Celestions, Missions, small bookshelf speakers that are in its class. Q10s has better balance and trancient response...

I think the best way I can describe these Q10s is that they sound BIGGER than their size!!!

That's no joke infact its kinda surprising that a speaker of that size can produce exeptional mid-lows!

Great tonal balance, warmth, dynamaics and for its size even the bass and mid-lows will surprise you. the most ideal speakers for condos and small rooms. Plus its very affordable!!!!

I bought these little bookshelf speakers from a local dealer for about $150 pair since I bought the whole set of 5 KEFs - 2 Q30s, 2Q10s and a Q90 for less than $500. They were supposed to be demos since they are not current models. They have been replaced with the 4th generation Uni-Qs, i.e. Q35, Q15 and Q90C. When I hooked them up with Denon AVR3200, they appear to be really BIG. Their image is just fantastic. The highs are just wonderfully musical and the mids are solid. While they lack in bass, but that's what they are designed for. Comparing them with the floorstanding Q30s, they sound more crisp, but never sharp, just a good laid-back British speaker sounds. I didn't do an A/B test with B&W's 601, but I have heard them separately before. I would say those little Qs will at least match what the B&Ws can do, if not better.
I'd have to say that I may be biased in my opinion on those speakers since afterall I bought them after long searches for a HT setup. I can say however that I love them, and I couldn't be happier with the prices I paid. Yes, they are demos, but I took them out from the boxes!!! That's how some of the speakers are demoed here in this small town.

I also checked Paradigm's Minis, Atoms, Phantoms; and also PSB's Alpha series. I have to say that my KEFs beat those little speakers by a wide margin and at a lower price!!!

I am happy to give them five little ones.

I bought my KEF Q10's probably 5 years ago. At the time, they were new. To this day, they are the best speakers I have ever heard without spending a thousand dollars.

I use them for music, and home theater. The Q10's can make and apartment seem like a movie theater or concert hall. The imaging is amazing, and the quality of sound is great.

I have been very happy with my kefs, and plan to purchase kefs again, without question.

As a listener that likes all types of music from hard rock to classical I would have to say that I have been VERY pleased with these little speakers. As others have stated in their reviews, these should be matched with a sub for optimum listening...but I have used them for the past 3 years as my only speakers and they are great performers. I am now thinking of upgrading to larger front speakers and moving my KEF's to the back of the room as surround speakers. Overall, excellent sounding speaker for the money!

I bought these Q10 probably 4 years ago and I still love them. Initially they were paired up with Philips CD 925 (those gray carousel changer!), and a Denon receiver, both of which are somewhat old. The
KEF didn't sound as warm as I previously heard somewhere else. Imaging was there, but soundstage
was somewhat flat.

Now I have them as my front pair in a small HT set up, along with a Marantz CD player! Music sounds
warmer, more detailed. Imaging and soundstage have improved, there's more depth to the music now.
Vocals are very smooth, not as bright (and sometimes uncomfortable) as the B&W 601 at high listening
level. For HT, they serve well in a 4 x 7 meters room. Good details and clean midrange frequencies.
Also magnetically shielded, good for small rooms!

Q10 lacks the bass response, and should be paired up with a subwoofer. Great little speakers, though.

related equipment:

Yamaha DSP-A2
KEF Q10 (front)
Bose AM-7 ,just the cubes, no sub (rear, center)
Bose AM-3 , again no sub (front effect)

Marantz CD-63SE
