Have had a pair of Q15's for two years now, and they sound better all the time.It seems that the more these speakers are challenged, the better they respond.
I don't try to blow the windows out of my house, I just like to listen to good music
accurately reproduced. These guys do the trick. Rather than forgetting the speaker
is there, I seem instead to be drawn into the system, right to the point where the music
comes off the CD. They just seem to respond so well to any music I put through them,
I wish I had purchased a full set of these instead of the very good, but pricier B&W's
If you love music, but don't have a bottomless budget, I highly reccomend these
speakers.

I just received these speakers about two weeks ago and am more than pleased with their sound. I use them for my bedroom / study area (40' x 24') and they sound tremendous. For inexpensive speakers (I got them for around $220), I'm amazed at how transparent and detailed they are. I don't find them overly bright as some people do, but they do offer a very good and clean high end with decent, though not rich bass. The soundstage is excellent. I've had a chance to listen extensively (for years) to Vandersteens, Thiels, Infinity (high end) and Bose (don't laugh!), and I find the 15's to offer the same type of "high end" sound offered by Vandersteen and Thiel with a slightly "thinner," less fluid though faster and more lively sound. At a fraction of the cost, however, one would expect them to be substantially less pleasing to listen to, which is not the case at all. I have them connected to (using decent though not 'cost is no object'interconnects and cables from Monster) a Nakamichi discrete channel receiver and Yamaha CD player, and they are on 28" high quality stands. Because of their awesome value and excellent sound, I will be upgrading my home theatre with these and KEF center channel and sub.

I just bought these speakers last night and really like them so far. Very rich & tight in the mids. Question though- is it a waste to use them as rears? That was my plan but after reading these glowing posts I'm not sure.

Thanks.

I just wanted to add a supplimental review after extended experience with these. A few tips to getting the most from the Q15.2's....

Use wire jumpers in place of the factory-supplied jumpers.

Try various interconnects with these if you can... I had been using Kimber Silver Streak, but found the now discontinued Audioquest Emerald to work better, adding midbass clarity and a more balanced sound (top to bottom).

Use heavier stands.. these speakers don't have a lot of mass, and seem to really like being isolated from external vibration (read subwoofer) as do most mini-monitors.

For those who complain of "bright treble", or those who claim these don't need a lot of power, think again. These little puppies love having an amp with a ton of real power... try one and I promise you won't be sorry.

Keep in mind that bright sound can often be attributed to limited headroom at the volumes demanded by the listener, combined with the peaks in the music of choice so try to reserve judgements until you have heard them a truly high current, stable amplifier.

I first listened to the Q15's about a year ago and fell in love with their overall sound quality, particularly their smooth midrange. I finally bought them about 2 months ago and the sound quality continues to be a major improvement over my aging bookshelf speakers from the 80's. I had old pair of apartment-worthy Pinnacle PN5's (now used as rear surrounds). And after replacing the woofer in my Boston Acoustics A40's they developed a harsh midrange (they're now demoted to background radio music in my home office).
When I heard the KEFs, I soon realized I was midrange-deprived, and this is where most of the sound and music comes from! KEF attributes this excellent midrange response to the Uni-Q driver where the tweeter is installed right in the middle of the midrange driver rather than being installed as a separate entity next to it. I believe the speaker works as advertised.

I paid $300 in New York City for the KEF Q15's. Though the price was no big discount, I think it was a good deal, considering that hardly anybody carries this speaker, so it was really impossible to audition them and compare prices without a lot traveling. Even when I located them, 2 different stores said they would have to be ordered from the factory. So any discounts here were not worth the cost of my time and travelling.

Pros
The speakers feel pretty solid and well-made (from Belgium). They look elegant in the Mahogany wood finish. Properly set up, the imaging is excellent, the soundstage is wide; tinkering with placement definitely yields differences in the sound quality. They are very sensitive, so little power is required to run them. I can listen to them for hours at a time with no fatigue at all. The mid-range is this speaker's greatest selling point. It is clean and smooth, clear and prominent, without being harsh or over-emphasized at all. They are perfect for natural, well-recorded vocals and acoustics (i.e., jazz, classical, folk), less so for POP music, but still adequate. Coupled with the Q95 center channel, they're excellent for concerts and movies in Dolby Digital and DTS! Bass is adequate, nothing to write home about, but I use a sub, so I'm not really concerned in that area. Bi-amping doesn’t work with my receiver and I haven’t tried bi-wiring. They sound fine as is. You'll be more than satisfied with their performance in the above uses.

Cons (depends on how picky you are)
They don't sizzle with super-highs, but I don't think a speaker should. You can always remove the grills (very pretty underneath!). I just boost treble a bit past the détente on my receiver. There is more of a sweet spot than with other speakers, but I consider it small tradeoff for good imaging. For the average non-audio enthusiast (i.e., the others in your house) the bass would be acceptable in a moderate to small room. For critical listening or bass freaks, you absolutely need a sub (a must for home theater) or else, move up the KEF Q-series and audition one with more bass drivers.

Do you consider this a defect?
There was a slight rattle inside one speaker during moments of strong bass. My initial thought was, "Oh no, a crappy, defective speaker already!" I was surprised that Adcom (the NJ importer of KEF) would not simply replace it, but they were more than happy to repair it if I sent it in. They were pretty helpful about it too. Still, I loved the sound too much to part with it that long. My salesman said I should just look inside, that maybe a loose screw was rolling around; it wouldn't void the warranty. I was a little afraid, but I did it anyway. It turns out, some wires were just vibrating against the bass port. I pushed them aside and made sure that baffling surrounded the port to insulate it properly. That was it. I closed it up and no more rattling! I don’t consider that a defect, but you might.

A word about Customer Service
If you love buying products that come with LLBean-type customer service, look elsewhere. I emailed KEF in England with a simple question and they never responded. In the event of a problem, just call Adcom directly and speak to a human being because they too didn't respond to my email even after several days. However, I’m not concerned. For the rare times I need them, I don’t expect stellar customer service. I’m far more interested in the enjoyable sound quality of the speaker I hear on a daily basis.

Overall, I give them a top rating. Finally, I can hear all of the music and the price is right too!

I hooked up a pair of KEF Q15 with a PSB Alpha Subsonic subwoofer. They are powered by Carver preamp/power amp. The sound is superb, all the frequencies from low to high are pinpoint accurate. The imaging and soundstage are wide and full. When I turn the volume up to only about 15-20W, with the subwoofer controls untouched, this system really kicks. FOr the price and performance, the KEF Q15 is very hard to beat.

I purchased KEF Q15's about 1 month ago and am very satisfied with their sound for the money.I power them with an Arcam Alpha 7 amp and Marantz CD67SE CD player. The combination sounds clear and musical. You must use high quality 24" or higher stands and position the speakers at least 12-15" from the back wall.Use good quality speaker & interconnect cable i.e. Nordost flatline, and you will be rewarded with enjoyable and involving music

I was almost sold on the KEF Q15s. I put them through their paces with a variety of recordings including the Verdi Requiem (Dies Irae), Haydn Trumpet Concerto, and even a little Dire Straits. Then, I listened to my favorite piece of music, a piece by the way that has brought much more expensive speakers to their knees: Mozart's Clarinet Concerto (KV 622). Ouch! For some resaon, they did not handle the clarinet overtones accurately. Same for an Oboe Concerto by Vivaldi. The overtones and subtlety were lost and the result was, as best I can describe it, scratchy.
I liked them quite a bit otherwise, but I'd recommend a careful listen if your musical preferences are similar as you may be disappointed. BTW, I ended up getting B&W 601s, which reproduced those recordings very cleanly and neutrally (and did everything else as well).

Until the Mozart - 4+ stars, after...2

I have had these speakers for several months now and have been very impressed with their sound. I use them for both music and home theater driving them with an Onkyo TX-SV828 THX receiver. The highs are wonderful and the bass, though not very deep, is tight. As others have stated, the imaging is second to none in this price range. I placed them on Sound Anchor 24' stands and have them biwired (difficult to say if biwiring makes much of a difference). Other speakers considered included the KEF Coda 8, Paradigm Mini-monitors, B&W 601, and PSB 400i.

Strength:

really good MUSICAL sound, excellent mids and uniQ technology providing an amazing soudstage

Weakness:

none considering price and speaker size...

After someone broke into my appartment and stole all my european system (AMC, 3D cd player, JPW speakers) as well as my CD collection, I had to quickly buy something else.
I went to this shop, Kebecson (Montreal), and I was proposed the Q15 as well as arcam Alpha one and alpha 7SE.

I couldn't do an extensive listening session, just compared those with tannoy. I ran for the Q15 (Tannoy were too analytical for my taste).

Thanks to Kebecson this was a pretty good pick up ! I am an heavy listener (I always have music around, and I spend an average of 1.5 hour a day only listening to music...), and I have only good things to say about those Q15.
As I am listening to a lot of electronic music (acid Jazz, Trip-hop) I added a sub Kef K-25, linked thru preamp out.

What could I say, those little things are rocking the house since then. Many of my audiophiles friends are amazed on how those little things are filling the room with sound (I have a big L type room).
I know biwiring is considered by some as a waste of money, but I must say that I bi-wired those after more than 6 month, and the differnece is HUGE. More power (don't ask me why), and highs smoother... I can't talk about bass response, as my sub is handling a good part of the job.

I won't discuss the lack of bass sizewize, it is not an accurate debate.

Female voices are excellent, very dynamics and not harsh at all... A real British sound !

I am now shopping to upgrade my system, but I must admit that many things I have listened to are sounding better (especially JmLab Chorus 725, and Paradigm Reference Studio S60), but the difference didn't make me do the "Wouha" gasp :)

Really good speakers at a really low price, Easy to place and will fill any room with music (not sounds) easily.

Value is 5
Overall is 5, I know there are way better speakers around here, but I can't think of other monitors in this price range that can produce music this well.
