I own a small audio shop in Ca and have heard many speakers at many different prices. I have noticed that the industry has shifted to lower quality higher cost products that just dont make the cut any more. I ran across the fairly new company Kerlegan Audio in SJ, CA. I read their information on their new SS series and was really interested. After ordering a pair I fond the quality of craftsmanship to be superior to products even three times their cost. After pluggin them up to our demo stae I broke them in for quite a while like I normally do. What happened then was pure amazment. I heard such a grand sound that I have never heard before at this price. The midrange was warm and clear with great transparent highs. The subtle blend of the highs and mids were very smooth. The most mind blowing part of these speakers is their ability to throw out an amazing sound stage with pinpoint imaging. I have never encoutered this feat with speakers this size before (45h x 9.5w x 12d). The rear ported design gave me plenty of solid bass reproduction with no boominess or over exaggeration of low notes. All in all these speaker are a steal at this price and I believe that you will not find a better speaker in this price catergory. So if you are looking for a furniture grade quality speaker and your budget is $2000 or less then the 7b's are for you. If you do get one get the cherry its magnificent. Oh by the way this speaker has now out sold all of my other lines including B&W, JM Labs Utopia line and even teh Vandersteens I carry. |

One day while cruising the net for a new pair of speakers I ran across a company called Kerlegan Audio. After viewing their webpage which is still being renovated I was thoroughly interested in their newly released SS Series which featured Scan-Speak drivers. It has become my experience that majority of the manufactuers using these drivers are quite sucessful but are very expensive. I recently auditioned a pair of Pro Ac's 3.8's and loved them but their hefty price was way out of my league. I was very interested in the warm sound that I heard and was naturally attracted to the SS 7's which are a MTM design using the Scan Speak 8545's and the Revelator tweeter. The price was right down my alley being priced at a steal for $2050. |
